**★★★★★ — Zafirah Ghanem, Nov. 2023**

> The architecture possesses a remarkable ability to blend creativity with functionality. The designs they presented were not only visually stunning but also practical and tailored to my specific needs. It was evident that their team invested time in understanding the intricacies of the project, resulting in a design that surpassed my expectations.

**★★★★★ — John Frishkopf, April 2017**

> B+K Architecture designed an outstanding home for us and also ensured that the contractor strictly adhered to all design specifications. We did a gut renovation of a South End townhouse in 2012 and Jeff and Pam guided us through the entire process. They created an extraordinary home that embodies a harmonious, clean and elegant style throughout. I feel that the house reflects our sensibilities and that B+K's design, sophistication, and attention to detail resulted in a beautiful and comfortable home that we enjoy immensely.

## Selected projects

- [Beacon Hill](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/beacon-hill-pj-vj~2592785)
 - Location: Boston, MA
 - Photos: 36
 - Description: Located in Beacon Hill, this house, built originally built in the late 19th century as a stable, and converted to a car repair shop in the 20s, has a 'zero lot line', meaning that the building extends to the edge of the lot and there is no exterior space at ground level. It is also a very deep building, and getting light into the interior of the building without compromising usable space was the primary challenge. We created an interior Atrium lit from above by a courtyard paved with glass; a fi…
- [Chestnut Place](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/chestnut-place-pj-vj~1720706)
 - Location: Brookline, MA
 - Photos: 28
 - Description: This house, a significant part of Brookline's 19th-century residential history, had suffered through decades of piecemeal renovations, deferred maintenance, structural compromise, and ultimately foundation collapse. This condition presented the opportunity to reorganize the original somewhat conventional central hall plan to take advantage of the complex sitting; straddling a one-story ledge while perched on a rise. The piano nobile, or living floor of the house is organized around a courtyard w…
- [Simple Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/simple-kitchen-pj-vj~2192039)
 - Location: Boston, MA
 - Photos: 6
 - Description: A South End town house renovation by B + K is selected for its kitchen in the Fall issue of Boston Home featuring the years best kitchens. With kitchen renovations being ubiquitous we are thrilled to be among the best and even more honored to be on the cover.
- [West Newton St, South End](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/west-newton-st-south-end-pj-vj~613162)
 - Location: Boston, MA
 - Photos: 11
 - Description: The modern renovation of a Boston South End row house engages the family in new perspectives of open spaces, daylight, and natural ventilation; the details and materiality alternately unite and contrast the modern spaces with their historical foundation. As each modern detail is in dialogue with the existing condition and every window profile is unique to the house. Please visit www.bkarch.com for more information and images.
- [Folly Point Road](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/folly-point-road-pj-vj~1720728)
 - Location: Gloucester, MA
 - Photos: 22
 - Description: Situated at the tip of Folly Point in Gloucester, MA and overlooking an abandoned quarry, this lot, although small, enjoys a 180 degree view of the ocean with the quarry in the foreground, the Atlantic in the middle, and the coasts of New Hampshire and Maine in the distant background. The sun rises to the east over the ocean and sets to the west over New Hampshire. Instead of competing with the uniqueness and drama of this remarkable display of the Northeastern coast with a building at the cente…
- [Brookline, MA](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/brookline-ma-pj-vj~617024)
 - Location: Brookline, MA
 - Photos: 11
 - Description: Like many of Brookline’s two-family houses this building, built around 1890, had been altered many times. The replacement of an aging kitchen presented an opportunity to take advantage of the unique siting of this house - sitting at the top of a slope with an extensive and wooded rear yard. The sequence from the street to the existing (slightly modified) materially rich introverted central hall to the ‘release’ of the framed view of the treetops from the kitchen becomes the memorable counterpoin…
- [Upland RD., Waban](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/upland-rd-waban-pj-vj~613579)
 - Location: Newton, MA
 - Photos: 8
 - Description: Through careful site planning this two-story addition and renovation of a 1920’s New England Colonial puts the house and garage into a composition that creates a protected south-facing patio. Although decidedly contemporary, the addition takes inspiration from traditional New England architecture in both concept and detail. The ‘garden kitchen’, a large room that is both kitchen and dining room, opens through four doors to the south facing patio. The stone steps, (granite curbing laid on its sid…
- [Union Park, South End](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/union-park-south-end-pj-vj~615358)
 - Location: Boston, MA
 - Photos: 14
 - Description: Located in one of Boston’s most beautiful and historically Significant 19th Century Squares (renamed Union Park at the end of the Civil war) this circa 1855 townhouse, converted into a rooming house in the 1920s and located in the largest Landmarked district in the US, had many historical and architectural constraints. In restoring the building to a one family house we entertained a ‘fictive history’. The question we asked was what might have been possible as opposed to recreating what was proba…
- [West Brookline St, South End](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/west-brookline-st-south-end-pj-vj~613385)
 - Location: Boston, MA
 - Photos: 31
 - Description: The row house renovation is a celebration of the spatial and geometric clarity of the Victorian era plan, while the design embraces the simple and obvious late 19th century domestic mechanisms that allow the house to alter and accept the variety of life’s rituals, both the very private and the very social. Unlike its Victorian predecessor, the language of the building fabric is geometrically simple and materially rich, the rhythms of light and material more emphatic and pronounced. Please visit…
- [Simple Bath](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/simple-bath-pj-vj~2192094)
 - Location: Boston, MA
 - Photos: 9
 - Description: This bath, part of a master suite, slips comfortably into the footprint of the bedroom. it takes the place of.
- [West Canton St. South End](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/west-canton-st-south-end-pj-vj~6107396)
 - Location: Boston, MA
 - Photos: 53
 - Description: This rather narrow (16' wide) South End Town House backing onto a beautiful private urban park was in a woeful state of disrepair. Years of a leaky roof had degraded any original finishes past the state of saving and had caused the rear wall to detach from the rest of the building and lean toward the park. Rebuilding this wall was an opportunity to open the house to the park in many ways. Adapting the vocabulary of the openings to the 19th Century profiles, intervals, and mechanics and re-using…

## Community Q&A

**Q: who makes the tub?** *(in Photo Questions)*

who makes the tub?

A: It is a Duravit 'Happy D' tub, they may not make this exact tub any more, this photo was taken quite a few years ago.

**Q: Frosted glass partition** *(in Photo Questions)*

I am working on a commercial project. Where did you buy you glass partition?

A: I believe that it was installed by Blu's Shower Door in Boston

**Q: love the wall color** *(in Photo Questions)*

can you tell me the wall color

A: too used to texting

**Q: Marble** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hi what marble is this?

A: It is Carrara, although Carrara is unpredictable today, it depends on where in the quarry it comes from/ The best thing to do is to look through a lot of slabs at a stone distributor until you find something that you like.

**Q: where is the white towel rack from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The towel rail is Rexa Design "Korakril'

**Q: WHO MANUFACTURERS THIS SINK** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: I'd love to accommodate you but I fear it would be unreasonably expensive outside of a larger project.
