## Community Q&A

**Q: what composite decking would you recommend?** *(in Porches & Decks)*

I am replacing my entire deck and would like any experiences with composite decking

A: We use Trex a lot and it's a great product. Timber Tech is also great. I would recommend getting the higher grade (Trex Transcend for example), as it typically has a thicker coating, and has a more realistic wood grain appearance. Best of luck with your project!

**Q: Non-wood decking...Anyone used Dekorators Vault decking product?** *(in Porches & Decks)*

Looking to get a new deck installed, and like the possibility of low-maintenance, non-wood decking, but after reading many of the reviews I must say that I am not thrilled about many of the choices. My neighbor was telling me about Dekorators Vault decking and how much he liked it, but he's only had it for a year. Is there anyone out there that has been using this product for an extended amount of time and has had a good experience with it? Are there any other brands of composite or non-wood decking that you have had an extended good experience with? For reference, I live in the Pacific NW with lots of rain, and in this case, LOTS of sun exposure in the summer. Thanks so much for your insights!

A: We are based out of Portland, and we typically use Trex. It comes with a 25-year no fade, no stain warranty. If you are going to go composite, Trex or Timber Tech (30 year no fade, no stain) is the way to go. If you are looking for pure longevity, as stated above, Ipe is probably your best bet.
