### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Development Dynamics LLC, Dec. 2019**

> I hired this company on a very special project and took some time designing both an open tread winding staircase and a spiral staircase. As a meticulous professional in the building business, I paid extreme attention to detail while the team at Heartland Stairways never lost their patience and always made sure the product was exactly what I was looking for. I really cannot say enough good things about this company. I chose them after searching countless other staircase companies but found that Heartland Stairways rose above them all. Their professionalism, integrity, work ethic, craftsmanship, knowledge and pride in their work is unmatched and far exceeded all my expectations. No matter where your project is located, I would not hesitate in hiring Heartland Stairways. After 30 years in new construction, I have to say Heartland Stairways will go down in history as the best company I have ever worked with on a project bar none!

**Comment from Heartland Stairways:**

> Thanks so much for your very nice review! It was a journey getting there, and maybe even a tad tedious at times for both of us, but very much worth it in the end. It truly was a pleasure working with you through the creative process and your vision turned out to be pretty spectacular. Plus, we received the priceless bonus of a great new friend in Nevada! Thanks Carolan!

**★★★★★ — Dean Harms, Dec. 2018**

> Heartland did three staircases in our new home, including a double curved, black walnut staircase in the foyer of the house. From the moment they arrived for measurements and design consultation, their professionalism and experience showed throughout the project. They were able to create a timeless, elegant entry to our new home. I would highly recommend working with Heartland Stairways. They did an amazing job from start to finish.

**★★★★★ — Cynthia J. Hoffman Interior Design, Inc., Dec. 2018**

> Our Interior Design firm engaged Heartland Stairways to produce and install a contemporary staircase for a Luxury Yacht concept for a lake house remodel on which we were working. After researching a stair design we came upon an online photo of a spectacular open tread staircase and it happened to be a company right in our region - Heartland Stairways. We met with Delon and Roy and provided the design concept. Heatland created exactly what we had envisioned and much more. What initially was going to be a semi-floating staircase, due to the robust construction methods Heartland uses they were able eliminate the secondary support system creating a truly floating staircase! All along the way, Heartland was very positive. They have a “can do” attitude that is quite rare in our experience. They worked with us to determine the best way to install the staircase, they worked with the materials we specified, and they came up with a magnificent way to shape the treads which resulted in a very aesthetically pleasing outcome. Their in-house metal department produced the stainless steel railing and they fabricated the Mahogany wood handrail as well as the thick Mahogany treads. Their whole professional team from Delon and Roy, to their crafsmen, to their installers - just impeccable! We will definitely use them again on future projects!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Love the painted railing!** *(in Photo Questions)*

What color is the railing?

A: I believe that was an Ebony stain. I'm not sure what brand this was but many stain companies will have that same or very similar dark black color. Hopefully this helps!

**Q: Who makes these spindles?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: These are custom made in our iron shop. Let us know if we could provide a quote for your project. Thanks!

**Q: Where did you get the railings from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where did you get the railings from?

A: We built everything ourselves. Balustrade components are from various sources. Indital, CR Laurence, and Steiner Glass provided most of the parts. Let us know if we can help you with a project.

**Q: need help with inside stair railing** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Really like the look of stainless or brushed nickel rods running horizontal for the inside stair railing, any suggestions how to use these types of materials and do it economically? I would like to mix dark maple wood with the stainless or brushed nickel. Can round maple rods be found, and if so, where? My husband and I , and our contractor are having a tough time coming up with solutions for this one. Any suggestions would be appreciated. ( I wondered if a rod can be wrapped in a very thin layer of stainless? Somewhat like you would wrap something with aluminum foil? Only I would want a smooth look. Not wrinkles. ) Or, can you find hollow stainless or brushed nickel rods that would work for this situation? If so, where would you find them at? Thanks.

A: You can do this type of balustrade which is relatively inexpensive compared to Inox or most other horizontal stainless options. You could have the newels (posts), rail, and intermediate wood components done in the dark maple which would offer very nice contrast with the stainless and it is also something most reasonably skilled trim carpenters could likely accomplish for you. This does pass code unless your project happens to be in one of few local jurisdictions that doesn't allow horizontal balustrades. The newels are 3 1/2", the rail is 2 1/4" thick, and the intermediates are 1 3/4". Good luck with your project!

**Q: how much this kost?** *(in Photo Questions)*

can deliver to belgium?

A: Hello Jaspreet,
Thanks for the inquiry! Yes, we can deliver this to Belgium. It is very difficult to price a stairway without seeing actual plans as there are often little variances that can substantially influence the cost up or down. I would expect this white oak stairway will (very roughly) cost you around $20,000 to $25,000. That price is per carriage/unit (this project has 2 flights stacked) and it includes the wall rail around the outside but does not include shipping. The carriage is the treads, risers, and stringer completely assembled, delivered in one piece and typically when shipping our product over seas we pack the carriages and components in a locked container delivered to port. We normally do our own site measuring but due to the distance we could possibly arrange this project to where we could provide detailed framing plans for you to build the framing and save you some costs.
If you require balustrade then the cost will depend on how much of the stair will require a full balustrade rather than just wall rail like the project in this photo. We normally do a complete dry-fit here in the shop of the full balustrade on the stairway only so your carpenters can very quickly and easily permanently reassemble the stairway balustrade on the job site. Email me or give us a call if you are interested and we can get you an accurate quote including shipping, balcony pricing, and possible turnkey installation in Belgium. We usually do our quotes with pricing breakdowns so you can choose how much of the project we do and how much of the project your carpenters do.
We could get you the name and number for the elevator company if you would like their information. My email is delon@heartlandstairways and our phone number is 330-279-2554.
We appreciate your interest and wish you the best with your project!
Delon

**Q: HOw big is the stairwell** *(in Photo Questions)*

how many square feet of space is required to install both the elevator and the stairs?

A: Hello MC,
Thanks for the inquiry. The finish (sheetrock/plaster) opening on this project is a 59 3/8" outside radius, basically a 10 foot circle. The inside stringer face is at 19 1/2" radius (39" diameter) and the elevator measures 18 1/2" radius (37" diameter) to the vertical steel structural members of the elevator. This allows the space between the glass and the stringer to be 3 1/2" and stay under the 4" minimum per code. Let us know if we can be of any assistance on this project and have a great day!
