> Parrish Construction completed a major remodel for us in a tight timeframe.  Their work quality was excellent, especially on fine cabinetry, and they were very easy and pleasant to work with.  They have a terrific project management and communication process.  Work done for us so far includes:  moving walls and structural changes, new windows and doors, new luxury master bath and kitchen with custom cabinets, plumbing fixtures, stone counters etc., closet with built-ins, new laundry room, new hardwood floors, added deck.

> The Roberts/Lehman mountain house remodel and addition was a challenge in two regards: the existing home nestled between large rock outcroppings - limiting assess and material staging area; and the existing home was set up on an open, somewhat suspect block foundation. The owners wanted to set the additions within the existing shell rather than build upward; so new master bedroom was embedded within and extended from the existing foundation and a new deck placed on top. Additional challenges included potential for water penetration from above and overall comfort as the owners wanted to bring exterior materials inside. An insulated sandwich of native stone and foam center was designed by our team and the execution by Parrish went without a hitch.

In both cases, we were thrilled with the extremely high quality of the work, the fair price, the professionalism of each person on the Parrish team as well as their subcontractors, and their "people skills." Parrish has a gift for listening to what we want and then executing it with beautiful craftsmanship in a timely manner. > We hired Parrish Construction to help with a kitchen remodel/expansion, garage expansion, and the addition of a new room.  We stayed in the house during construction, so we were on-site every day.  We couldn't be happier.  Parrish took care of everything, from erecting a temporary fence to keep our dogs out of harms way during the project, to making sure we were satisfied with every aspect of the workmanship.  The project manager met with us weekly to check on progress, expectations, help with decision-making, etc.  They did an excellent job protecting our furnishings and floors during construction, and helped keep construction dust out of the areas of the house we were living in.  They don't cut costs by choosing cheap materials, and when there were design decisions that needed to be made (e.g. door styles, windows) they gave us a few to choose from so we always knew where we stood with regard to budget. The workers were all polite and professional.  All the Parrish employees and the owners take pride in the work they do.  They wanted the project to turn out well as much as we did.  When little things went wrong (and there are inevitably going to be a few!) they just took care of it, no questions asked.  If you want to be assured that your project is well-managed by skilled professionals who want to minimize your stress and help you reach your goals, then go with Parrish.

**Q: Powder Room Update: Need Advice** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are changing the floor to multi-color slate and are also thinking about doing the whole wall behind the pedestal sink and toilet in a glass and slate mosaic. The room is 7.5' long and 5' wide and the wall behind the sink/toilet is 8' high as there is a bulkhead. Will this look okay? Also the pedestal sink is only 24" wide so any creative suggestions for where to put the hand soap and towels would be appreciated, e.g. niche, shelf, etc.??? Thank you for your help.

A: I would leave the room the way it is and get a 32-36"high narrow cabinet for the space between the sink & toilet for soaps & towels. If you don't like the horizontal band of color, you can repaint the walls or cover with an awesome wall covering that is in keeping with your 'casual elegance' style. I personally don't like slate on bath floors because if feels too dark for me, and it's harder to clean, but if you do go that way, it must be sealed. Some slate can track color onto lighter carpeted areas, unless it's sealed. I agree that for drama you can concentrate on lighting--much less brain damage and money than tearing out your floors.

**Q: How was the fireback installed?** *(in Photo Questions)*

We are purchasing a cast iron fireback to use as backsplash as you did here, but we are struggling to figure out how to mount it without putting screws through the plate or having brackets visible from the outside. Can you provide details on how you actually mounted this? Thank you!

A: Sorry to be so long in responding. A steel angle iron was screwed to the wall first, to support the weight of the 'fireback', which was then glued to the wall, and the travertine stone was cut and set around it.

A: The tile is a tumbled travertine.

**Q: counter stone?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hi i like the look of the counter stone.  What stone is it?  soapstone or granite?  what finish? is it honed or leathered?

A: Hi katpic, thanks for your question. The counter stone in this kitchen is soapstone. We recommend a leathered finish vs. a honed finish in kitchens to better protect against stains. **Q: Kitchen Dilemma** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We just purchased a home in AZ. We need to update a galley kitchen, with no windows. We are trying to make sure we don't make it look any smaller.
1\. Could we paint the back wall one color (thinking sienna) and the other walls in a neutral color?
2\. We are thinking of having cabinets refaced. Would just adding hardware be enough to update? 
3\. We plan on putting in quart countertops. We are leaning toward darker beige/brown rather than a lighter color. Would this make the kitchen look even smaller?
4\. We are also trying to decide on appliance color. Black or stainless?

A: I know you like the wood on the cabinets, but the wild pattern will never look up-to-date, even with new hardware. The least expensive fix would be to paint them a light color and add new hardware. You can have them professionally done or save a lot of money and do them yourself, but use a good quality, oil-based paint and it will be durable for many years. For a little more money, you can have new doors and pull-out inserts installed, but I would only do that if you are very happy with the layout of the cabinets. I agree, the light fixture has to change and the gingerbread trim over the sink has to go. I suggest you live in the house for a while before you make any changes. You may decide there are other things about the space that also need attention.

**Q: Width of counter area** *(in Photo Questions)*

Just wondering... how wide is the counter surface, as well as the broom closet, in this laundry room?  We are presently designing our home and think that this configuration would work for our space.  Thank you!

A: The total cabinet width is about 36 inches with the counter next to the sink being about 15 inches. The broom closet next to the washer/dryer is about 20 inches.
