They were referred to us by a friend to upgrade the technology in our home to a higher level - connecting television, music, computer, etc to one simple, wireless network. > Brutal.  I expected some issues when our relationship / sales manager was transferring to a new location, but what not expecting to pay almost $2000 to have all of their work redone.  The installation folks that I got didn't understand basic Sonos and A/V wiring.  If you are going to hire them, beware.  Do you homework and make sure you are getting good installers.

**Q: Smart home** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'd like to convert my house to be a smart home. Automated lighting,security features etc. What is the most cost effective way and the pros and cons.

A: There is never a con to hiring a professional to assist with your project.  A good, reputable company will provide useful insight for your project and help you make the correct decisions based on your needs and budgets.  Additionally, they will be more knowledgeable about products, their proper applications and alternative solutions than trying to research it yourself.

Great home automation companies will be able to interview you for your specific needs, generate a proposal, install and provide service and warranty work if needed.  A proper proposal will include equipment, design, install, programming, project management and, of course, user training.

What do you think about having the TV over the fireplace? Are you against, or for it?

A: Here is a fun idea for a TV being above a fireplace but also covered up when you DON'T want it the focal point of the room.

**Q: Side table lamps...to match or not?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Should lamps match or just be similar in shape or color? New bedroom in near future...with complimentary side tables, not matching. Do I follow suit with lamps?

A: If you're not matching your side tables, I'd do the same with the lamps

**Q: Home automation** *(in Other)*

Looking for input on home automation.  I have found several options.  Some can be quite expensive.  Anyone have suggestions or warnings? Various brands?

A: Depending on the size of your project needs I would definitely consider enlisting the help of a local specialist.  We do all sizes of projects and too often are called in to rescue a D-I-Y project that has gone astray.  There are many, many suggestions and warnings - too many to list.  As far as brands go, you're going to have recommendations from your local company, use those to then do you're own research.

**Q: Help me dress up theather room.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am trying to cozy this up a bit. Any thoughts on fluffy area rug colors and throw pillow colors?  Any other thoughts also appreciated

A: Paint your ceiling tiles and rails black along with the support pole.  Find some fun movie posters for the walls (satin black frames and non-glare plexiglass are affordable) and colorful throw pillows and area rugs.  Use a stylish side table with a cool lamp and put all your lighting on dimmers.  Great room, lots of opportunities to be creative!!!
