What type of wood, and how was it done?

A: Solid walnut, glued up in varying 4"-6" width planks. Wide belt sander.

A: Thank you. Griffin Custom Cabinets. Belmont, Ca.  Soft Maple with mdf panels for stability. The Island top is solid walnut.

A: I'm sorry, we did the casework only. I believe they hired a color specialist to get it just right.

A: Hello! 
Apologies, we don't actually have any information on the backsplash. That was likely a collaboration between the homeowner and designer on the project. :)
