> Kettle Construction promises a lot and doesn't keep his word. For months nothing happens. He lied to us repeatedly and blamed third parties for the delay when it was his responsibility as general contractor to keep the project moving. Make sure to put a time frame into contract with enough penalties to make him move. To get a bid in writing from him is as challenging as to get him stay true to his word. Make sure you have a contract written in stone and checked by your lawyer before you commit  to him as general or sub for any work.

> We came on to try to help clear up 6 pages of Red Tag notices issued by the Building Department. All the work was done by the owner that led to the Red Tags. Their previous contractor cleared zero items up in a years time.

**Q: Where can I get a pergola like this with roof that opens and closes** *(in Photo Questions)*

The slats that make it open and close and can house a ceiling fan.

**Q: How would you finish this modern/contemporary fireplace & stair case?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

The fireplace sits right under the open staircase w/ cable railing (still a wip) which glad we changed that from original plan. This will be our feature wall, so we want it to really pop. We don't necessarily want to replicate the outside stone veneer sidings. Perhaps just cement & color or add very eye catchy tile (red or cobalt blue)? What about the adjacent staircase wall? Based on the aesthetics of our house, what would you recommend?

A: Good old concrete. Use the countertop mix, cantilevered hearth and surround

**Q: Window in the shower?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Planning to remodel a smaller bathroom.  Can I build my tiled shower incorporating the existing window?  Is this a bad idea?  I hate to lose the natural light but do not want trouble in the future.

A: Best to use a fiberglass window frame around that much moisture.
