You can see in the rendered design the use of concrete forms as well as roof lines to manage the use of solar. In the winter the sun will heat up the forms, in the summer the roof overhangs will block the sun from warming up the inside too much. The home is a modest 2400 square feet and is built into the landscape and takes advantage of the views of mountains and valley all around. We wanted to be able to expand our living space into the outdoors with fully opening windows and doors, as well as continue the inside floor design to the outdoor patios. We solicited RKD based on their beautiful work with much larger projects which you can see on their website. Our challenge to them was to build us a beautiful, but modest, home using similar design principals to their larger projects but keep it under our budget. I will post pictures and updates through the process. But it is actually a strip light shining on the top of the beam. The light is recessed into the ceiling along both sides of the beam. **Q: is the stone a manufactured stone or real stone?
