Shortly after we finished that project, we decided we needed to think about a larger home for our family. We moved in July 2011 and called Kathleen again to help us. She helped us to rearrange the furniture from the former formal living room into our new family room and also made recommendations for our formal dining room, formal sitting room and kitchen in the new house. While we loved all the designs, we couldn't afford to do everything at once, so we started with the dining room. The pieces she chose were all beautiful heirloom quality pieces that complemented our home and our style perfectly. She also recommended window treatments that pulled in all the colors we needed. Love this room! Next, we purchased a kitchen table and chairs from Kathleen. Again, perfect fit, just what we were looking for. The final room was the formal sitting room. We started this in the fall of 2012 and we were able to pull together the entire first floor of the house without the entire house looking identical. Kathleen's approach is personable, friendly and very approachable. In fact, we trusted Kathleen so much that when our painter became available to paint our first floor in the fall of 2012, we turned to Kathleen. We happened to be on vacation that week. I asked our housesitter to leave the house open for Kathleen and she left paint recommendations for the painter. Our trust for Kathleen was so implicit that we went ahead with all the paint recommendations for the entire first floor (open floor plan: kitchen, family room, dining room, foyer, formal sitting room, powder room, laundry room) without even seeing the colors first. The house came out perfectly thanks to Kathleen's touch! When she came to my house for that first visit, I understood exactly why they had suggested her to me. Kathleen has that rare talent of being able to translate vague half-descriptions of home furnishing longings into designs that seamlessly blend into your home and just fit in with your family. She listens well, filtering that information into her endlessly inventive mind, and inevitably creates options for you that reflect your personal design aesthetic (even if you never knew that you had one!). This may sound a bit geekish, but I have to admit that I would absolutely always look forward to the days when I would go to Ethan Allen (or Kathleen would come to my house) and she would show me the montage that she assembled to exhibit in miniature the design for whatever room that we were furnishing. Her enthusiasm was always contagious, and I was always excited by what she was showing me. Without fail, though, she was sensitive to any concerns that I brought up, and made adjustments based on my feedback. Additionally, I always appreciated that when we were planning a redo of a room, she found just the right place not only for the new pieces, but also incorporated the pieces that I already owned.
