**Q: flat roof but not a modern house** *(in Building a Home)*

My husband and I are building our dream family home and want a flat roof for hurricane protection (we live in Miami), but don’t want a modern looking home - we prefer a more timeless look. But all I see online for photos of flat roof homes are modern ones. Anyone have any ideas they can share? It will be a two sorry house with a tandem two car garage - 3,000 square feet.  Thanks in advance for any insight!

A: Yes, flat roof homes typically have a more modern, mid-century, vibe.  However, with a good designer, along with a very good contractor, you could come up with plan to design the space with a more timeless feel.  Do know that a flat roof house will still have a more modern aesthetic, as a whole, but adding elements such as more traditional windows, doors, landscaping, etc. could help to soften that modern feel.  Good luck!

**Q: Does a master bathroom need a bathtub?** *(in Remodeling)*

We are renovating the master bathroom in our new home. The current shower is tiny and super dark, and there is currently a large jacuzzi tub that we never use. There is also almost zero storage space. We are thinking about removing the tub, putting the vanity where the tub is now, expanding the shower to make a large walk-in, and then adding some more storage where the vanity is. We just don’t want to turn off future buyers if there isn’t a tub. How big of a deal is a bathtub in a master?

A: The question to have a bathtub in the master, or not, depends largely on whether this is a "forever home," or one that you might consider selling in the future.  If it's the forever home, then I think if you don't want one, and would rather have a large walk-in shower, then great!  If you will consider selling in the future, you probably would want to install a bathtub, as many buyers would prefer having one.
