> We converted a closet and some other space into a full bathroom for a guest room. GD Builders were on time and under budget. They were very pleasant to work with and highly communicative. We always knew what to expect and the ongoing status of the project. My 35 year career was in construction management and I worked with numerous contractors all over the country. GD Builders ranks right up in the top 5% of contractors that I've worked with. I would absolutely recommend them for any residential project.

**Comment from Great Divide Builders:**

> Thank you so much for the kind words David! We have had so much fun working with you on your lovely home. Please do keep in touch for anything you may need in the future.

> Anna and her team were professional from start to finish. They went the extra mile after we had major water damage in our log home.
> All damage was repaired to its original glory in a timely manner.
> We highly recommend Great Divide Builders, and will use them again for an addition in the near future,

**Comment from Great Divide Builders:**

> Great Divide Builders has done many projects for me. The wood work and custom pieces they have made for my home are beautiful. I call them for all of my remodel needs and advice.

**★★★★ — Lauren, March 2016**

> After purchasing our new (to us) home, we knew we wanted to add back-yard access via a sliding glass door in one of the bedrooms. After closing, we contacted Great Divide Builders for a quote and a timeline. We worked out the details, and ordered the door with them. This project was small for them, but they worked us into the schedule and got it installed in less than day. Door and install are great!

  - Description: The Mountain Pine Beetle has already killed over 4 million acres of lodgepole pine trees across the Rocky Mountain region. This epidemic has caused a surplus of lodge pole pine wood that should, and can be, put to good use. So we at Great Divide Builders want to be a part of the solution and have used Rocky Mountain pine beetle kill wood, also known as blue stain pine, in projects from exterior siding, to hand rails, to bar tops. Pine beetle kill wood is structurally sound and safe to use in ext…

## Community Q&A

**Q: I see the blue stain up top, but what is the horizontal siding from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The horizontal siding is a custom ordered material from one of our wholesalers.

**Q: Love the beetle kill pine. Do you apply a preservative to the soffits?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Does the beetle kill on sheltered areas like the soffits require regular maintenance to preserve it? Do you apply an oil or a stain?

A: Thanks David! Since all of the siding and soffits are pine and is a soft wood, a stain and sealant was applied to everything for preservation. The maintenance schedule is similar to any wood siding.

**Q: What to do with wood walls** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I would like to brighten up the house and feel there is too much wood (all walls are board and batten - barn house in country). I am not sure painting make sense, but the wood is not porous so I do not think white washing/pickling will work. Most of our furniture is wood, so there is no contrast with the furniture up against wood walls. Don't like it. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. There is so much potential here, but want to make it a reality.

A: If you feel that there is too much wood that is overwhelming your space, a good idea may be to invest money to install drywall over the wood. While you could perhaps leave the great room all wood, and instead install drywall smaller rooms or just leave one wood wall accent wall in each room. I would however, absolutely leave any post and beams exposed, use the same window and door trim and doors themselves (those are great) to show the nice character of the house.

**Q: Need ideas for front of lodge style house to create a warm and welcome entryway** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have just purchased a great house and we have some ideas to update the exterior entryway to make it more warm and inviting. We are thinking of taking down the lower railing, updating the upper railing, adding a walkway from the front entrance to the side driveway, adding landscaping, and walkway lighting. I also think adding a lighter colored stackstone material from the ground to just under window height would brighten the look and add textural interest. Very interested to hear others ideas and responses to what we are thinking. Thank you!

A: Congratulations on your new home! I think a stacked stone around the lower perimeter of the house would look great, and I would suggest to remove the lattice under the deck and add more stacked stone under that as well. Consider possibly switching up the wood deck and patio balusters with something metal and re-staining the wood on the deck and patio posts and beams to make it stand out a little more. For landscaping I would focus on getting flowering shrubs and bushes that would add color.

**Q: stain used** *(in Photo Questions)*

Looks great! I'm in Breck as well. What type of stain was used for the siding? Also, which mill did you go to for the wood? Hesters?

A: We did not stain the wood siding but used a high quality sealer which added a beautiful richness to the color of the wood.

**Q: Need help choosing colors for our new cabin!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We plan on staining the logs a natural teak stain and the floors with a mahogany finish, but we can't decide on a color for the walls. Would love some ideas to make the interior feel warm.

A: I really like your ideas on the darker floors and re staining the logs! I think it's best to not draw the eye toward the walls but instead to the log work in a home like this, so I would paint the walls a neutral beige color to really make the logs stand out.
