**★★★★★ — Terri Wild, Dec. 2016**

> Darren and his crew were very professional and accommodating with our complete bathroom reno in our post-war era house. Darren had great ideas and could see my vision for a well appointed modern bathroom in a very small space. He was great at suggesting design ideas when I was stumped, like a unique double-hung (almost floor to ceiling!) narrow window so we could let as much light as possible into our small space. Little touch ups after the job was done were handled quickly and with no fuss. Highly recommended.

**★★★★★ — Jason Mui, March 2016**

> We purchased a home that Darren built and we're amazed by his attention to detail. You can tell that everything was thought through and the build quality is superb. We've now been living in it for 2 years and every day we come home from work we still feel the joy we felt when we first stepped into it 2 years ago. Even now Darren's been easily reachable whenever we have questions about the house. I would definitely recommend DBW Contracting.

**★★★★★ — User, Jan. 2016**

> We were apprehensive about taking on a large renovation project, but after meeting with Darren and touring one of his previous projects (Rainbow), we knew that his attention to detail, his willingness to work with us and make the decision making process less painful, we knew we had the right contractor.
> We are pleased with Darren's advice during the renovation and the finished product exceeded our expectations. We did not use a designer and relied on Darren's expertise during the renovation and his suggestions/modifications made sense every step of the way.
> It was our first renovation and if we were to do another one, we will definitely use DBW again.

**★★★★★ — amisklake, Sept. 2015**

> DBW Contracting recently renovated our vacation condo from top to bottom. We couldn't be happier with the service we received, the quality of work, and the attention to detail. Darren was more than helpful with suggestions and went above and beyond to communicate with us and satisfy our needs. He was very mindful of our strata bylaws and ensured the worksite and building were kept neat and safe at all times. We would not hesitate to recommend DBW Contracting to anyone taking on a renovation as we felt extremely confident and reassured leaving Darren in charge of the project while we were living in another city. It is not often that one says they were sorry to see the end of their renovation as it was a pleasure to work with such great people.

**Comment from DBW Contracting:**

> Wow! Thank you very much. I really enjoyed seeing your condo come to life. Thank you for the opportunity. My Team will love the positive feedback!

**★★★★★ — linkleas, April 2014**

> This was a major kitchen renovation. I could not be happier with the final product as well as the process to get there. DBW Contracting did a wonderful job. They are really nice guys and nothing you ask is too much for them to do. They are always willing to do the extra touches that were not discussed at the outset. They kept to the timelines that were set out. The attention to detail was perfect, no short-cuts or cheap imitations. They took as much pride in the work as if they were doing it for themselves. We couldn't have been happier and I will always recommend them without reservation. They took care of my home and the finish product is fantastic. No one would be disappointed with having DWB Contracting doing the work for you renovation - big or small.

**★★★★★ — marydales, Sept. 2013**

> We are in the midst of our second renovation with Darren. The first turned out spectacularly well and I have no doubt the second will too.
> Darren uses the best quality materials, exceptional sub-trades and strives to put our ideas into reality. He keeps us well informed of progress and addresses issues as they arise in a very timely manner.
> He is up to date on the very latest innovations to make your home a showplace.
> He is very open to discussion and always attempts to make this "our" house, as well as his project.
> He is always friendly, professional and works very well with the municipality in obtaining necessary permits. This can be very challenging in our neighbourhood!
> I would not hesitate to recommend Darren and his team for a large renovation.

**★★★★★ — bobmcculla, Sept. 2013**

> I spent over twenty years trying to figure out how to update my kitchen using the existing space. Darren came over and sat in the kitchen, and within ten minutes of talking to us about the features we would like started pointing out where a door could be moved, a window created and the appliances relocated to suit our needs. It was magic; We went from four drawers to twenty two and the fridge is now tucked away in what was formerly a useless pantry.
>
> The demo went well, any surprises that came up as in any sixty year old were not a big issue and dealt with.
>
> The crew were friendly, hard working and respectful of my house and family.( I have a adult Downs Syndrome daughter at home)
>
> The reno went quite well, but what impressed me the most was how Darren made sure that everything was done to his satisfaction, As an example, the patio bricks were set in the wrong pattern by a worker. He had them rip it out and he personally came back after hours and re laid the bricks.
>
> Darren is a straight talker, honest to tell you his opinions, and has the knowledge required in the industry. There was no BS with cost estimates, you get what you pay for. His budget was realistic and as it turns out quite accurate.
>
> I will be using this company for my next project soon.

**★★★★★ — fmac52, Sept. 2013**

> DBW Contracting did a complete kitchen renovation with a breakfast room addition, as well as updating our bathroom several years ago. Darren worked well with both the designer and myself to make sure I got the kitchen I really wanted. The project went smoothly, Darren and his crew were available to ask questions and to give me options all during the construction work. We have since had Darren do several smaller updates in other parts of the house. Darren is always pleasant to deal with and goes out of his way to make sure the job is done right.

**★★★★★ — bobdales, Aug. 2013**

> DBW completed a total makeover of our house in Rockland, including removing a bearing wall and inserting replacement support beams in the ceiling. Drywalling, rockwork, painting, installing steam shower, flooring, carpeting were all completed. The house was then displayed in the parade of homes in 2010. Excellent caring workmanship. Very easy to work with and workmanship of the highest caliber.

**Comment from DBW Contracting:**

> Thank you, that is very kind. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your project come together.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Skylight Manufacturer** *(in Photo Questions)*

I am in Seattle and in the midst of an outdoor covered patio remodel. I am very interested in understanding who made the 11' by 19' skylight.
Much appreciated!

A: We engaged one of our local commercial glass and aluminum suppliers to build it. They worked with their aluminum supplier to build it. It is not an "off the shelf" product. Most commercial glazing companies should be able to help you. Good Luck!

**Q: hey just wondering what kind of floors you used on this project ?** *(in Photo Questions)*

looking to do the same in my house
looks nice with the walnut

thanks

justin

A: The flooring is from a company called Karelia.

**Q: Could you share the manufacturer of this fireplace?** *(in Photo Questions)*

It's very unique! Thank you!

A: Hi Camille James! The fireplace is a Napolean. I'm not sure if this model is available anymore. Frankly, I think they are better now. I was disappointed at the time that there was no peninsula style fireplace with straight clean lines. This was the best option given the price point available in our budget. The installed price for this one was about $4500 Canadian.

**Q: Can you tell me who designed this house.** *(in Photo Questions)*

I am looking for a designer and possibly a builder. Honest $ per sq. would also be helpful Thanks Steve

A: Hi Steve. The house is just under 2900 square feet. the build cost came in close to $ 215/square foot CDN. The base design was done by my brother and I. We employed Zebra Design and Jenny Martin Design to help guide us down the road to achieve the final product.

**Q: Doors** *(in Photo Questions)*

These are the most ideal doors I have ever seen. Is there any specs that you might post. This is thinking outside the box. Just beautiful.

A: Thanks for noticing emes8346. The doors are actually from Trimlite and can be ordered with the frosted glass from the factory. The glass allows lots of light through but still provides full privacy. We chose to hang them on a Rob Roy track from Krown Lab because we did not have room to swing into the bathroom. It made more sense to track install rather than swing into the bedroom and I dare say resulted in a much cleaner final product. Thank you.

**Q: Do's and Dont's of building your house** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm building my first house. Anybody have any suggestions on things I should do or things I should avoid? Any insight would be great!

A: From a budget point of view - you may want to discuss the draw intervals with your bank if you have a construction mortgage. Where I live we get draws based upon third party inspections, separate from the municipal inspections that are safety/code related. The third part inspections are done at times like foundation completion, lock-up, drywall and final completion. One must be very careful not to exceed their planned budget as you won't get further funding until you reach the set milestone. Talk to builders and friends who have built previously... There is lot to learn beyond banging nails and painting walls. You don't want to end up with an unmanageable mortgage after completion, then your have to sell your sweat equity.
