> My wife and I were recommended to Maureen a few years ago when we were in the process of transforming our space and our company. We were very pleased with the outcome of the work Maureen did for us. The placement of water features, plants, fire elements. The use of sustainable cork flooring. All these changes really enhanced our space, both for our staff and our clients. We are in the process of hiring Maureen once again. Thanks Maureen!

> Maureen guided us every step of the way maximize the flow of energy and harmony in our new office space. Is it really effective? Well, we're here six months, and business is flourishing! It feels good coming in every day, our team is motivated and engaged, good things are happening. While I realize there are other factors at play, having a space we all love being in is an important contributing factor.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Interior Design Help!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Our new home is about 2 weeks away from being finished!
I am designing the home to have a modern/high glamour style. I have lots of black & white furniture and accessories but I'm confused about what to do with my entrance hall? I want a nice feature pendant light but not sure what style and what else will work in the space? Any suggestions would be great!

A: The entrance to your home is most important. Careful attention will yield fabulous results! To counterbalance the yang energy (lots of white and angles in the pillars) you really need to bring some nature and yin energy (softness) to this space. A few plants, texture and color will create a welcoming space that will calm the mind upon entry. The foyer is where you transition from public space (outdoors) to your private sanctuary. It can really help to de-stress or can add to your stress. Balance is key!

**Q: Need help for my feng shui bathroom. ASAP pls** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello friends from Aegean beauty, Izmir (Turkey). I need help for decorating a feng shui bathroom. It s in the metal section of bagua and next to my bedroom. It as a very big room and I m making it smaller in favor of my bedroom. I m gonna hide the toilet behind the inside opening door. Its in slate position now. The first two pictures were taken from my room and the 3rd is the possible plans...Please make suggestions about placing things and tiles, color etc.Thank you for offering suggestions in advance. JEN

A: With your bathroom in the Metal element area of your home, and bathroom being a Water element space, the Water will drain the energy of the Metal. I suggest boosting the Metal with Earth - use the Earth element through selection of colors (beiges to browns) and use of ceramic tiles that are very earthy. I like that you have the toilet behind the swing of the door. It is best to place the toilet so that you do not see it first when you walk into the bathroom. It looks like a fairly good design. You can add a few small plants (Wood element) and perhaps candles (Fire) to round out the 5 elements and add vitality as well. Best of luck!

**Q: Are we there yet?** *(in Before & After)*

Turned a 1955 two colored split level into this....but not sure we are done yet with the exterior. Something still seems wrong. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

A: I agree with Scott and many others that the orange doesn't look right over the garage. It is definitely the first thing that your eye is drawn to and it seems to fall flat. It does not help the design scheme at all, but instead drains the energy. I would paint that gray as well, perhap add an architectural metal element to hang there so it's not just a solid block of gray. I love the colors at the front door and other touches around the home. Add more substantial plantings are the entry and hostas around the tree is a great idea from toocutedobs! Good luck!

**Q: Feng Shui** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Integrated design is all the rage. Living in Rio De Janeiro where propery values have more than tripled in the last three years I ´ve had to buy a tiny apartment. As a consequence I´ve integrated the kitchen into the living area with a breakfast counter and eliminated walls where possible. The rules of Feng Shui say that I should have a DOOR on my kitchen to prevent strangers from penetrating where they´re not welcome. Does anyone know how I can circumvent this?

A: I guess some feng shui consultation may feel you need a door, but I do not. Most homes have open spaces for kitchen/family rooms and it usually promotes a better flow in the home. The mirrors and bell serve to alert the cook to anyone coming into the home and/or the kitchen area.

**Q: Love the entry into dining room but??** *(in Photo Questions)*

I am considering using the space directly in front my entry as our dining room, and putting our formal living room off to the side where our previous dining area was, the dining area will be the first thing you see when you enter our home, it's a large open space, are there any design rules that I would be breaking by doing this? We entertain more in the dining area and need the space more then we do for the formal living area. HELP:)

A: Sure Ellessebee! I can definitely suggest Feng Shui books, but the best way to learn about Feng Shui is through instruction. If you'd like, email me at maureen@luminous-spaces.com and we can have a sidebar conversation.
