> The Staff at the Drapery Company, were great to work with. We had several window treatments done in our formal living and dining rooms over the past 10 years or so. Time was taken to coordinate both rooms, with different colors, but made sure they also blended together. As well as custom sheer panels for our family room from floor to ceiling. The Quality and workmanship of the custom made drapes and panels, and the install was outstanding. We have recommended Maura to many of our friends.

**★★★★ — gcanitz, April 2013**

> We wanted two sets of custom drapes at opposite ends of a great room, one for triple sliders overlooking pool and lanai, and other for a double door flanked by two side windows opening to an atrium. With no clear vision to start, it was on the third of 3 distinctly different versions that the "ah ha" moment occurred. Once getting the "go-ahead", the Drapery Company produced drapes of excellent quality, both material and workmanship, and within a very reasonable time frame. The installation was efficient as well.

## Community Q&A

**Q: window treatment: valance or full curtain** *(in Design Dilemma)*

In a guest room, there are three windows with white pull-down shades. Are valances okay or would curtains be better? I've been looking at the photos on the site and I can't tell! Thank you!

A: Once you get all of the boxes unpacked the answer will come to you. With lots of bookcases my thoughts goes to drapes on either side, if the windows are all cost together. Treat them as one use one pair of drapes on each end. The drapes will extend the room and keep that vertical line that the book cases give. However, if it does feel too cluttered, stay with the shades and see if you can add a decorative band of trim across the bottom of the shade for a little decoration. Do the windows have casing around them? And are the Shades inside mounted? Photo would be helpful even with boxes, it will answer some questions.

**Q: Need help with daughter's bedroom.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My daughter's bedroom needs an update and a fresh look. What would you suggest for bedding color? I was thinking to change the mirror on the wall. Also need help deciding on a window treatment for this room. She has a lot of furniture because she has a lot of clothing and a small closet. What can I do to update the decor in this room, making it crisp and clean? Any advice is welcome.

A: Liya, the best look is the photo in the middle. Blue/aqua drapes to contrast with the wall color, but they also work nicely with the bedding, and I like the texture of the pillow on the bed. I don't like the gold color drapes. they are too close to the wall color. Did you find hardware to hang the drapes with? Lamp?

**Q: Staircase curtains pls pls help!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Any thoughts and ideas on curtain designs etc for the large window on our staircase in our new home . Thank you

A: I would go with floor-to-ceiling drapes in either a solid that blends with the wall color or a large print in contrast colors. The drapes should go on at least a 2" pole with endcaps since you don't have a lot of room for finials. We are a custom workroom in the Tampa, FL area and will be happy to assist in finding a solution for your window. Valerie with The Drapery Company

**Q: Need help and ideas with new home: curtains & decor** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have just bought our first little house!!! The previous tenants totally messed it up, so we are painting, tiling, putting new light fittings in, and adding cabinets to the top half of the kitchen. The kitchen is black granite tops with cherrywood cabinets. The lounge/tv room area joins onto the dining room...with the kitchen opening Onto the dining room. . Our furniture is dark brown/black. We are painting the walls a sandy-beige colour and the tiles are going to be white/cream. I need ideas for curtains and decor please please help!! There is a large window at the staircase (see pics) curtain ideas for that too please!!

A: I think you had an earlier post about your stairway window to which I responded. I recommend the same treatment downstairs so that all of the windows coordinate. Valerie with The Drapery Company

**Q: What should I do with my bedroom** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have recently taken everything out of my closet and turned the third bedroom into a walk in. Now I am not sure what to do with the layout of my bedroom once I have painted. Any suggestions?

A: I suggest changing the window coverings to a product like Hunter Douglas silhouette. This allows you to open the vanes and have filtered light entering the space, as well as closing the vanes against the light and for privacy....Valerie with The Drapery Company

**Q: Master bedroom - need finishing touches** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need help from amazing Houzzers on curtains and lamps for the master bedroom. The existing curtains are from my old house, and I think they work well ,apart from being too short. I bought satin that exactly matches the raspberry ribbon at the top of the curtain and plan to extend the curtains by about 20" with a band of this satin at the bottom. I will raise the curtain rods (unless you all tell me not to!)

The raspberry color is difficult to find, so I thought that I would make tall glass lamps from vases, and fill them with raspberry colored tissue paper or fabric, and use the lampshades (in photo) that match the curtains.

The big brown cushion is part of a chair that Houzzers are making me move out of the living room ;) (this discussion: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/recover-or-replace-dsvw-vd~472407). I put the cushion so you can get an idea of the size of the piece.

The vases under the vanity table and the purple pillowcases will go, and I have more pictures to hang.

Thank you!

A: Also, the we use Euros on king size beds. I'm not sure that your bed is a king so maybe use two shams with a neck roll or small bolster in front of them.
