We are Vancouver Island's only dedicated soapstone fabrication facility. We specialize in custom work and are prepared to go the extra mile if you require something out of the ordinary. Island Soapstone serves the entire Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast and Lower Mainland and have a large selection of slabs in stock.

Soapstone is one of the best natural surfaces a homeowner can choose for a countertop. It is warm and inviting and provides a unique look – the perfect balance between old-world charm and modern functionality.

Island Soapstone can elevate your kitchen countertops from ordinary to totally extraordinary. Soapstone is a superb choice for kitchen or bath countertops, backsplashes or islands. The durable and dense surface of Soapstone gives your counters all the beauty of traditional marble or granite surfaces – with some extra benefits.

We are often asked whether Soapstone is a hard enough surface: In short – it is. The slabs we use are Brazilian and Canadian architectural grade soapstone. The stone is as hard as most marbles and much harder than the soapstones traditionally used for carvings.

Discerning homeowners have long known the advantages of soapstone countertops. They are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also sensuous and one of the most practical counter surfaces you can buy. You will be hard pressed to find a countertop material with the same warmth and practicality soapstone has to offer.

If you would like to see any of our kitchens “in action”, please contact us. Our clients are always happy to show off their new counter tops and we could make arrangements for a viewing at any time.

### Reviews

**★★★★★ — epatel100, July 2022**

> I would give them more than 5 stars if I could. From the initial visit to their farm to check out the various options, to picking out our slabs, to their taking a template of our counters, designing the various cuts in the slabs and installing them, Adri and Casper provided an amazing experience and a memorable end product. We get rave reviews on our countertops, primarily because of the care, thought and hard work they put into the layout and installation. They were wonderful to work with - low key, high integrity and really following through on their promises. We have installed two kitchen counters with them and would seek them out if we had another project.

**★★★★★ — HU-207393651, May 2022**

> We have had our soapstone countertops in for just over a year now. They are stunning and they absolutely make our kitchen. Adri and Casper were super pleasant and efficient to work with. I would never hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

**★★★★★ — Julie Wheaton, June 2019**

> We are delighted with our soapstone countertops! This is the second time that we have used Adri and Casper's services to install countertops. They are knowledgeable about their products and one feels confident in the guidance they provide. The installation went smoothly and quickly.
> We would highly recommend Vancouver Island Soapstone for both their product and their professional, friendly service for anyone looking into countertops.

**Comment from Island Soapstone:**

> Thanks Adri and Jasper.

**★★★★★ — Jim Dempsey, March 2019**

> Just had Vancouver Island Soapstone provide counter tops for our kitchen renovation. They measured and then installed without a glitch, perfectly done. The counter tops are absolutely beautiful. A great job. Thanks to Scott Ilott the cabinet maker and Paul Baker for the construction and project management for their excellent work. We have a great kitchen thanks to you all. Joanne and Jim from Comox

**Comment from Island Soapstone:**

> Thank you Jim & Joanne!
> We really enjoyed working with you and it is always a pleasure working with Scott. Your kitchen turned out beautiful and we wish you many years of joy there.

**★★★★★ — Mary and Peter O., Oct. 2018**

> Adri and Casper are wonderful people to work with as they are talented and professional, as well as having an exceptional artistic flare, matching seams in the stone and creating a apparently seamless counters and kitchen island. They installed stunning kitchen counter tops and bathroom vanities in our newly renovated home. The soapstone is gorgeous like a painting and I know we will enjoy it for years to come.
>
> Thank you you two!

**Comment from Island Soapstone:**

> Thank you for a lovely review, Mary & Peter! We really enjoyed working with you and love what Scott did with your new kitchen. It is an amazing space.

**★★★★★ — Jana Strain, July 2018**

> Adri & Casper were amazing to work with! They were very knowledgeable about soapstone and happy to take the time to help us select the right soapstone for our project. Not only did we get to choose the slab that we wanted, but we went to their shop once the counter top patterns were complete and got to decide which veins would go where. Adri had a great suggestion of carrying the vein from our counter top, across to the island, up the back splash and onto the bar.
>
> Once the counters were installed we still had some construction and they got a little scratched. This was an easy problem to solve, we just need to oil the counter tops! I would definitely recommend working with these wonderful and kind people.

**Comment from Island Soapstone:**

> Thank you for the lovely review, Jana!
> We really enjoyed working with you and love how your home turned out. We wish you many years of pleasure from your property.

**★★★★★ — Heather Ferguson, June 2018**

> How many ways can we say we love our soapstone counters? Actually our order from Island Soapstone included one granite counter in a bathroom and we love that too. Adri and Casper were so welcoming, responsive and easy to work with that we would recommend them to anyone.

**Comment from Island Soapstone:**

> Thank you for the lovely review, Heather! We wish you many years of enjoyment from your beautiful kitchen!

**★★★★★ — Brent B, April 2018**

> We had our gorgeous silver soapstone installed by these folks back in 2012 when they were just a few miles way from us. We just recently replaced our cooktop. As the new one did not fit in the previously cut opening we asked Adri and Casper if they could cut a bit more off of the front opening to accommodate our new cooktop. Luckily there was enough counter to do this. The trip this time was a bit further to travel as they moved an hour and a half away, down island. They did an outstanding job, keeping mess to a minimum and even on a holiday no less! Talk about great customer service six years later!

**★★★★★ — Doug Hall, March 2017**

> We considered many different countertop materials before visiting Island Soapstone, but we quickly realized that soapstone was perfect for our kitchen. Casper and Adri were very helpful and fun throughout the whole process. They braved bad weather and cancelled ferries to bring our project to completion ahead of schedule. The work is first rate on both artistic and technical fronts and we couldn't be happier. The countertop makes the kitchen.

**Comment from Island Soapstone:**

> Hallo Doug & Chintan
>
> Thank you both for a lovely review! We really enjoyed working with you and love the way your kitchen turned out. You really picked all the best parts of the slab and showcased them perfectly!

**★★★★★ — Scott Paterson, Nov. 2016**

> This summer we decided to Reno our kitchen and made a trip out to Duncan, BC to visit Vancouver Island Soapstone and choose a slab for our counter tops.
> We had already done our research and new pretty much what to expect, but Adriana taught us so much more about the properties of soapstone, history and how best to choose.
> They cut and bevelled the stone to our cabinet specs and suggested many improvements on the details to make it look incredible.
> When it came time for installation they put the pieces in and Adriana followed behind with the finishing touches to make sure it looked perfect.
>
> We are so happy with the workmanship and professionalism they provided
> and the results were amazing.

**Comment from Island Soapstone:**

> That you for a lovely review, Scott! We love the way your kitchen turned out and your backsplashes look amazing. We wish you many years of joy in your newly renovated home.

**★★★★★ — Mary Soles, Nov. 2016**

> Choosing a kitchen countertop is an investment that should bring enjoyment. For us, beauty, authenticity, durability, and budget were all important considerations. After initial research, the idea of soapstone appealed...but first we had to see it in real life. The quest began on Houzz for a supplier/manufacturer and what luck! We discovered Vancouver Island Soapstone. Adri and Casper invited us to the Cowichan Valley and were so welcoming, relaxed, and informative. It was an easy decision to proceed. After helping us select a slab, Adri and Casper came in to measure, which they did with precision even though the kitchen was a work in progress, and to install our countertops right on schedule. We discussed having a display cabinet countertop made from the remnant and were assured this could be arranged when we were ready. A year later it is in place and we couldn't be happier. Casper, Adri and their team are expert at transforming this unprocessed stone into beautiful custom countertops that preserve the natural properties of the soapstone we were drawn to. They are unfailingly professional, supportive and available to share their knowledge and advice and encourage followup. No wonder the results are of the highest quality. Congrats on your well-deserved success, Island Soapstone!

**Comment from Island Soapstone:**

> Thank you for your beautiful review, Mary!
>
> We really enjoyed working with you on your renovation and love how everything came together to update your heritage home, while still keeping true to the history and ambience of it.
