**Q: Rearrange my living room, design the front windows!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My city rowhome living room leaves difficult layout decisions! Purchasing new furniture is not an option right now. I'm not sure the current setup is the best, though.  My biggest complaint? The chair and couch are too far away from each other- when we watch TV it would be nice to be closer!  I want to keep the space feeling open and not cut off the front door  area either. 

I also have no idea what kind of blinds (other than the current, broken, $8 ones that are currently up) I should get.  Its a city home, so privacy on this level is an issue, but I would love if more light could get in.   Half shutters? Any top down, bottom up options that aren't cellular shades?

If I like any suggestions, i'll move the furniture and take a pic so you can see!  Thanks for the input in advance.

A: what about that? I prefer the first one (if u don't have cable connection  problem for your TV) because that arrangement  gives your living area a little bit larger look . but  in the second one  I guess  just we have 10"problem.and please  forgive me for  using "ugly back" word in my sketch. it was only  joking and I understand that is just unfinished face of your furniture.  I forgot to say lovely dog with sweet face!

**Q: Kitchen Island Decor** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have a large island in my kitchen and am struggling with what to put on it as decor.  I have thought a plant, flower, large fruit bowl but am struggling to find exactly what I'm looking for.  Any ideas or places to shop for those things would be greatly appreciated!

**Q: What Would You Do with These Kitchen Cabinets?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi.  As you see, I have two black accent cabinets with ornate trim. They seem out of sync with the other cabinets in size and style.  I tried to tie them in with the backsplash using black accents.  I have black stools at the eating bar.  So what do you think?  Out of sync?  Any thoughts short of replacing them?   I have been thinking of changing the color of all the cabinets, perhaps refacing.  What about the trim?  Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Thanks.

A: I love this black cabinets and their details.  You can keep them .Your kitchen will be more beautiful with this two focus point .My suggestion is,  painting  other cabinets in pure white and using stain less steel knobs ad bar pulls. An other thing that helps to match the black cabinets and others is changing counter tops to black granite one.But try the new counter tops first because the black color will be extended to counter tops and vertical edges are connecting to horizontal edges visually.

**Q: Need help refreshing and updating this kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

this is a galley kitchen. I want to make it more modern. I don't want to change or paint the cabinets. I am thinking new counter top, sink, appliances. I like spaces to have character. I was thinking maybe farm sink. I want to love this kitchen again.

A: I sketch the plan of your kitchen based on your photos, but I m  not sure about the correctness of all items position.(due to lack of  information)regarding No. 2, I suggested you a simple and modern working desk plus under table garbage can .I believe that it will not be too costly.I am not agree with plate rack because of  its traditional view. For having a more modern view I suggest using stain less steel knob and bar pulls.

**Q: Which design for new master bath?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are starting a new build and want the master bathroom to be a wow factor for the house. Which accent wall do you like better? The rustic wood background or the rich blue glass tile?

A: I think  wood  background is better because of rich texture and great contrast between this panel and other surfaces also you can use  it in different ways.

**Q: Need help deciding on a paint color for interior of bookcase.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have 2 tall bookcases that are espresso (very basic) and I want to paint the backing to make them not feel like such a dark cave, it feels like everything gets swallowed up in there! I just have no idea what color to paint them. Every bookcase online that has this done is white! I cannot, for the life of me find pictures of espresso bookcases with the back panel painted. These will sit on either side of a red brick fireplace with a white mantel and sage walls.  I was thinking white first but that seems too extreme of a contrast, then I was thinking a similar color of the walls but it's a rental and we don't know what the color is, then I was thinking reddish to match the fireplace but I have no idea what I'm doing. Help!  Also, I have attached 2 pictures of the rug (different lighting) I'll be using if that helps.  We're moving in 2 weeks so I wanted to have it done before then. The couch and coffee table are gone. Thanks for any advice!

A: nice rug !It looks like Persian design carpets.  I agree with Manon. I think wall paper, fabric or painting color(for back of bookcase) should be in the same shade of your carpet colors(Brown, gray, cream, Atlantic blue ...etc) You can also utilize  a combination of same colors and flowers ( your carpet flowers including design of Abassi and Toranj flowers ) on your pillows if you prefer to add on your coach. good luck
