## Reviews

### All 10 reviews

**★★★★★ — Kelly Warnock, Jan. 2017**

> Matthew Copp provided me with a full review and consultation of my existing yard and pool lansdscaping as part of an initial consult. He was able to quickly identify all plant, trees, and grasses onsite and give thoughtful recommendations for practical improvements. In addition, he was able to troubleshoot my azalea problems to a specific insect infestation and gave advice on proper pest control. While I was not in a position to make significant investments at the time, I would not hesitate having MRC involved in planning future projects.

**★★★★★ — Michaelsozo, Nov. 2016**

> MRC Landscape Architecture is very knowledgable about their materials. Their design is very ascetically pleasing. We have worked with them multiple times and are satisfied.

**★★★★★ — rose106, Nov. 2016**

> We had moved into a new home and had landscaping that needed to be done. MRC was very knowledgable from the type of soil all they way to what types of trees that were best for our area and for keeping pests away. We are very satisfied with the work and they have been very responsive to any questions we have had after the project was completed.

**★★★★ — John Bradley, Nov. 2016**

> project at my long-time residence; good listener; sound ideas; detailed plan with good drawings provided; furnished quality plants at favorable price.

**★★★★★ — gmobley81, Nov. 2016**

> Matt Copp and MRC Architects were a pleasure to work with. We were looking for a landscape plan that took into consideration the varied areas of shade and sun that surround our house. Matt developed a wonderful plan that not only took into account our unique setting, but also worked with us to recommend low maintenance plants, that still provided us with the appearance of a polished well groomed lawn. Matt was easy to work with, answered all my questions and turn around on modifications to the plan where almost immediate. We will definitely be working with MRC in the future with additional projects.

**★★★★★ — Mac McCutchen, Nov. 2016**

> Matt Copp & MRC has been such an asset for our yard. Matt has been great from the consulting to the landscape design. Our yard looks amazing, and I have very little maintaining to do on my own. My wife and I consider our yard as Matt's yard because of all of the work that he puts into it. Whether its cutting the grass, fertilizing, spraying for pests or picking out the plants, he always goes above and beyond.
> We started working with MRC in July of 2015 and will continue for the unsayable future. We highly recommend MRC Landscape Architecture!

**★★★★★ — cassdodgen, Nov. 2016**

> The best thing about Matt and MRC Landscape Architecture is his accessibility. We've found Matt to be professional and timely. His knowledge of the entire landscape business from design to install to maintenance is very helpful for us.

**★★★★★ — Piretti Home and Garden LLC, Jan. 2016**

> Matt is the consummate professional – he is organized, detail-oriented, and always available for client consultation. His knowledge of his craft is impressive, as he is schooled in specific plants as well as the overall climate of our own Mid South climate, and he is willing to share this knowledge, and explain in great detail, with his clients. Furthermore, I am continually impressed with his ability to meet difficult deadlines. I would highly recmmend Matt.

**★★★★★ — christy\_knapp55, Dec. 2015**

> MRC Landscape did a wonderful job of designing and installing a drainage system for my front yard to address some flooding issues caused by a neighboring property. Matt consulted with our city engineer to design a drainage solution that would be compatible with the landscape and city code. His costs were very fair and the installation work was done in a very timely and professional manner. Matt has also managed my lawn care for the last few years and has done an outstanding job of keeping my yard lush and manicured. I have truly enjoyed my relationship with Matt and MRC Landscape and have grown to trust and value the expertise and hard work they offer all their clients.

> Matthew Copp (MRC Landscape Architecture) is an outstanding professional! As a residential customer, Matthew designed and installed two beds for me and very recently helped me select additional plants, which he also installed. Matthew is so knowledgeable--when designing he listened to my preferences and took into account the problems (hilly, poor soil, full sun) and designed beds that not only are a delight to me--but also to the entire neighborhood (and to the butterflies and birds!). He quickly returns phone calls and emails, is reasonable in price, easy to deal with and the results are fantastic! He also provides detailed information about the plantings and gives advice as to their proper care. We are lucky to have a top-notch professional like Matthew--now, of course, I want him to design more plantings for me! Matthew is absolutely the best and I cannot endorse him highly enough.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What are the dimensions of the firepit? Height/diameter?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: It’s approximately a 42” outside diameter and 21-24” in height

**Q: Any advice for a crushed shell driveway?** *(in Other)*

It's an old home, southern Mississippi, no garage.

A: Crushed shell, normally oyster shell, is a great material to use if you are in a coastal area and it is readily available. Yes, it has it's less favorable attributes as describe above. If you want to use an alternate material with a similar appearance, consider using a quarter minus gravel. Every stone and gravel supplier uses a different name for this material. You want a gravel that is graded were the pieces range in size from 1/4" down to dust. It packs well and wears well; however, you must have the proper base material underneath it for it wear and pack properly.

**Q: I WANT CURB APPEAL!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I want to do some landscaping but want to keep it simple. My yard gets full Mississippi sun and that may be a problem. HELP?!?!

A: I would agree with the fellow posters above recommending to hire a "landscape company"; however, if you have it in your budget to hire a landscape architect who can design a plan meeting your needs and desires creatively. Once that is completed, you can bid out the work competitively to seek out the lowest, most qualified contractor.
The alternative is to seek proposals from multiple design-build contractors. However, you will receive as many ideas and plans as the number of contractors who provide a proposal and you will be comparing apples, bananas, and oranges and possibly making a decision of who to hire based on price and when they can start the work rather than whether or not their proposal delivers your needs and desires for the landscaping.

**Q: Need help with Retaining Wall** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need to retain this wall, but am not sure which retaining method I should use. I would prefer something inexpensive, but still looks nice. Any suggestions?

A: I would suggest hiring a landscape architect to develop and derive a creative solution and involve a professional engineer (PE) who is experienced in both soils and structural wall design to provide the final design of the wall. Lastly, I would suggest having the landscape architect and professional engineer bid out the repair work for you to qualified contractors who are experienced constructing whatever type of retaining wall is designed for the yard.

**Q: Tree question zone 8-9 plz help!?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have a big open yard and want to add trees that grow fast and will last a long time. I don't want a fast grower that will die or start dying after 15-20 years.
What are the healthiest fastest growing trees for these zones 8-9?? Thanks!

A: A few suggestions:
1\. Avoid fast growing trees if at all possible. You are asking for problems in future years.
2\. Avoid a monoculture of a single tree species so that if a disease or insect begins to hit a certain species of trees you will not loose all the trees if you plant a single species.
3\. Consult with a landscape architect and an ISA Certified Arborist on both existing trees and future trees.
4\. Stick with native trees to the area. Utilize your state's extension service's bulletins or publications to identify the trees. Also, any of the tree books by Michael Dirr are a great resource on trees.

**Q: Will Thuga Green Giant grow in south Mississippi?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: It is best suited for Zones 5 to 7. Here is some additional info:
