### Featured Review

**★★★★★ — michaelrkauffman, March 2021**

> Scott is excellent. Up front and realistic about pricing -- he was the only architect I interviewed that would explain "how the money game is played" in residential remodeling and, frankly, it was very much appreciated. For my project, there were three kinds of design insight I wanted and Scott provided all of it. First was the "take my vision" and draw it up, which he happily did. Second, for those areas where I didn't know exactly what I wanted, Scott was very clever, an excellent designer. And third, I didn't ask for it, but Scott had this light touch way of making this tweak over here or over there -- even if out of scope -- that helped create design cohesion with what was \_in\_ scope. Very very good at his job. Very happy with Scott and the results.

**Comment from Scott Becker \| Architect:**

> Thank you Michael for the thoughtful and flattering review. It was my sincere pleasure to help you conceive and execute this remodel for your family.

**★★★★★ — RJ Finley, May 2019**

> I have worked with Scott on a couple of different projects and have nothing but great things to say about his design and service. Being a builder, I appreciate his approach of design to fit the needs of the specific project while keeping costs in mind. He is humble and is open to all ideas for the betterment of the client/homeowner. He has a genuine motivation to let his clients express their needs and wants and let them drive the design process. I highly recommend Scott and will continue to use his expertise on future projects.

**Comment from Scott Becker \| Architect:**

> Thank you Russ. An enjoyable process of creative problem solving to produce a very special backyard oasis!

**★★★★★ — Whitney Murray, March 2019**

> Scott did a great job of working with a design to fit our existing foundation. It was a complicated project as our original home was a 1950’s ranch and he transformed it to a coastal chic house! it turned out beautiful. He listened to our request of a coastal style and was a pleasure to work with.

**Comment from Scott Becker \| Architect:**

> Thank you Whitney. I am very glad to be a part of this project I believe the whole team is very proud of.

**★★★★★ — kwall69, May 2016**

> It was a pleasure to work with Scott.
>
> Scott excels with his attention to detail, desire to meet the clients intentions, and ability to collaborate with the construction field. This was successfully portrayed through the custom cabinetry that we produced together on a retail tenant improvement in Woodinville Wa.

**★★★★★ — sjg0225, April 2015**

> My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Scott Becker on our recent home remodel project. From our first meeting, Scott listened to our wants and needs and helped develop a well thought out plan for our home. Our home had been through several previous additions resulting in a choppy layout lacking a sense of cohesiveness. Scott had the task of taking this challenging layout and providing clarity and flow to the space. He took the time to ensure that we had explored all the options and helped us to think outside the box while being mindful of our budget. Scott was excellent at keeping the project on track without making us feel rushed to make decisions. During each meeting he addressed our questions, helped incorporate any new ideas into the design and there was a clear plan moving forward. We felt like Scott took sincere interest in helping us get the most potential out of our home. We would recommend Scott Becker to anyone looking for architectural services for their home remodel or new construction.

**★★★★★ — lnewel2, April 2015**

> It has been over a year since our remodel was completed, and we still feel the sense of wonder in the home Scott designed for us. We have gotten very comfortable in the livable, light filled spaces, but there is always something fresh to enjoy in the sky and changing seascape we are fortunate to share on the edge of Puget Sound. We have enjoyed Scott's leadership and talent, and are pleased to refer him as a highly qualified designer for an extensive home remodel project.

**★★★★★ — reneg1, April 2015**

> Scott's care and creativity with my bathroom project far exceeded my expectations. He was able to take my ideas for a bath "retreat" including a soaking tub, and travel experiences to places with rich craft traditions, and somehow bring these influences together into an exquisite design in a very small space. I couldn't be happier with the result.

**★★★★★ — kirkdouglass123, March 2015**

> I hired Scott to design a DADU (detached accessory dwelling unit) on my property. The location was very limited, in an environmentally critical area, but full of mature trees. I provided my requirements, Scott did an excellent job of designing a space that worked exceptionally well with the land, fitting seamlessly into the space. He had simple, creative ideas that fit into my budget.
>
> The finished product has been a huge success. It's now a vacation rental for people coming into Seattle. In the short period of time since built it's been featured on two television shows

**Comment from Scott Becker \| Architect:**

> Thank you Kirk. One of a handful of DADUs in recent years, but definitely my favorite exploration of a small home design within tight constraints. Continues to be one of the most popular projects in my portfolio!

**★★★★★ — Jack Malek, Feb. 2015**

> Scott Becker and I have worked together professionally and as community volunteers since 2008. Scott is talented, well educated, and innovative. He's experienced in both residential and commercial design and construction. What I like most is his ability to create a big picture. He develops an over-arching theme for any project and remains true to it throughout. He also understands his environment and incorporates this into his design. The result is a high quality finished product.

**Comment from Scott Becker \| Architect:**

> Thank you Jack. I am very glad this home renovation was so successful for you and your partners.

**★★★★★ — natcl, April 2014**

> I have collaborated with Scott on several projects and can assuredly recommend him as a fantastic architect to work with. As a client you want your architect to listen and understand your goals, to put his/her ego aside and design what is practical and esthetically relevant to you and your family, and most importantly support you through the entire experience with utmost professionalism, knowledge of the process and understanding of your budget.
>
> Scott delivers all that and more; he is experienced in a variety of styles, has creativity and skills coupled with the analytical sense to construct a solution that is not only visually stunning but delivers good cost/benefit balance over the future years maintaining the space.
>
> If you happen to review his work be it modern, traditional, or Nantucket beach-home style you will find a correlation among all of them - spaces he designs are elegant and classy without loud statements that transients through time and connects each home with their owners.

## Selected projects

- [Urban Treehouse DADU](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/urban-treehouse-dadu-pj-vj~615057)
  - Location: Seattle, WA
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: The Urban Treehouse is a detached accessory dwelling unit (DADU) owned by our client living in the home immediately behind. His goal was to take advantage of the wonderful landscape and topography in the front yard to create a uniquely Northwest vacation rental that would feel completely separate from the rest of the property. The result is a highly efficient yet gracious suite in 500 sq. ft., so popular it has been featured on the Live Well Network program "Sweet Retreats."
- [Beach House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/beach-house-pj-vj~445579)
  - Location: Shoreline, WA
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: A comprehensive remodel of a simple, well built 1940's coastal cottage in the Richmond Beach neighborhood. Our guiding principles were a relaxed beach style with well framed Puget Sound views and clean lines, bathed in daylight. Wonderful clients who are a joy to work with!
- [Campbell Run](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/campbell-run-pj-vj~1953326)
  - Location: Cottage Lake, WA
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: A ground-up remodel of the clubhouse and unit interiors for a large apartment community in Woodinville, WA. The clubhouse design is inspired by Northwest Style, vaulted lodge interiors, and vernacular barn and greenhouse architecture. The concept is based on a new double-height central space, which uses a grand fireplace to divide the entry hall from a more intimate, sun-filled 'Internet Cafe.' This flexible space also connects the leasing area to a new indoor-outdoor exercise/yoga studio and ga…
- [Forest Cottages](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/forest-cottages-pj-vj~578688)
  - Location: Shoreline, WA
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: Six detached homes designed for a cottage community north of Seattle. The project's transitional aesthetic took influence from local 19th century farm dwellings built by Scandinavian homesteaders, combined with warm finishes and textures from Nordic and Southeast Asian modernism. Innovative low impact development site design techniques, sustainable finishes, and 'found object' architecture were recognized by Seattle Magazine and AIA Seattle.
- [Sound View Kitchen & Deck](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/sound-view-kitchen-and-deck-pj-vj~605468)
  - Location: Shoreline, WA
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: Our clients wanted to increase the entertaining potential of their large view home overlooking Puget Sound, and to celebrate a family legacy of collecting fine china and ceramics. We responded with a proposal to link food prep spaces and custom mill-work to al fresco dining and view with a renovated kitchen and new deck structure.
- [Live-work Retreat](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/live-work-retreat-pj-vj~607398)
  - Location: Twisp, WA
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: Live-work Retreat is a collaboration with an artist to create a residence and studio in a remote area of the Methow Valley. The owner wanted an efficient, potentially "off-grid" building with tremendous day light and vertical space for creating his large installations. A sloping site was selected for its thermal benefits. The solution is a simple, tall structure stacking a "rolling loft" over the main level studio, with a basement sleeping area below.
- [Solace Bath](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/solace-bath-pj-vj~2650388)
  - Location: Shoreline, WA
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: Our client wished for a bath retreat drawn from spa resort experiences in diverse locations such as Bali, Indonesia & Reykjavik, Iceland, that share an affinity for rich natural materials. The mood was to be serene, introverted, Zen. We responded with a simple plan for the compact space which treats the room as furniture, with fine handcrafted details, supple colors and textures, and surprise effects from indirect light.

  - Description: A young couple's dream home began as a comprehensive remodel and addition to a single level rambler in Richmond Beach, Shoreline. In the course of the design process, it was realized the single floor scheme could not meet the needs of the growing family. In the end, very little of the original home was retained, mostly due to the wish for consistent quality of construction. The design influences for the residence span from local "coastal cottage" architecture and memories of a Victorian era home…
