## Community Q&A

**Q: Very beautiful countertop. Is that made from one slab or two?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The bar top you are looking at Is made with one slab and has no seams.

**Q: Cabinet Finish** *(in Photo Questions)*

Was there a base color selected for the finish?

A: These cabinets are finished when they are produced, I am not sure what colors are used. This is schuler brand cabinets and the finish is appaloosa.

**Q: Brand of cabinets?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Are the cabinets custom made/stain or a RTA from a wholesaler? By whom if possible. Love the style and unique color.

A: Schuler\*

**Q: To paint or not to paint** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Our new house has a very dated kitchen. However, as old fashioned as the cabinets are, they are probably better quality than replacing them all with cheap new ones. What do you think is the best way to update the kitchen on a budget? One idea I'm thinking of is adding colourful ceramic knobs and maybe also changing the backsplash to similar painted tiles. What countertop would people suggest? Another option would be to paint the cupboards either white or a bright colour. There is a lot of wood in this room already! Interested to hear what you all think!

A: To modernize this space you need to add some color and contrast to break up all of that wood. I would paint the cabinets to light pastel color that fits your taste. I would paint the stair railing white. Definitley update the backsplash to a mosaiq glass tile and change the counters to a quarts that coordinates. paint the dining table and the hutch as well. I found this picture that has the colors I am thinking of.

**Q: IKEA kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We just finished an IKEA kitchen install but we were off on our measurements by 4". This pantry can't be moved as the granite countertops have already been installed.
Any ideas on what to do with this 4"? We initially used IKEA filler wood but it still
 looked unfinished.

A: my first thought was pullouts but that wont work because of the light switch, airvent, and door frame. I would say either a filler or I like the shelf Idea if you can get lucky and find somethign skinny enough to fit. Also like PP said some crown would make this kitchen look finished. your cabinets right now are like putting taping a picture to the wall without a frame. Putting crown up will make it looked like a framed picture.

**Q: Granite - stain or grain?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have a 'stain' that's recently appeared on a brand new granite (river white) countertop install. The house isn't complete yet, and the builder is saying that this isn't a stain, and is just a characteristic of the slab. I don't see it anywhere else on the entire counter. Anyone seen anything like this?

A: It looks like part of the stone to me. I can see why that would look out of the ordinary but its similar to finding a knot in wood. Its just a natural varient in the stone.
