**Q: Feedback needed on kitchen layout** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi there! I am looking for some additional feedback on my kitchen layout. I am just not “loving” it, and I am having a hard time deciding if I’d rather have the refrigerator visible and easily accessible from the dining & living room, or if I’d rather have the range be visible with a decorative vent hood and beautiful subway tile backsplash. I could be swayed either way, so I needed a sounding board. 
Unfortunately, I can’t get on board with a microwave below in the island. I use it too much to be bending down, and I just think I’d hate it. So the microwave continues to be a sore thumb. I am almost considering just shoving it above the range where it’s functional and being done with it. 
Floor plan attached & 2 kitchen layout options. Any feedback is much appreciated.

A: I take it then that the bonus room was once the kitchen? I did assume that was a side or back door. Definitely not the place to put the cooktop! The peninsula works here, just make it pretty.

**Q: Glazed cabinets - Yay or Nay?** *(in Home Decorating)*

I need to decide on this ASAP and I keep going back and forth on my decision. Currently, I live in FL and the homes don't seem to use glazed cabinets much, however we are moving to another state and viewing a lot of there new (high end) homes, glazed cabinets seem pretty common.

A: Well yes this type of glazing is applied by hand using an implement that resembles a Sharpie!

**Q: What house style is this?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Trying to figure out what style of house this is. Anyone have any ideas?

A: Center Hall colonial with a fancy portico. Somebody spent a lot of money on the facade of this home. Colonials also come in side hall versions, which you see on smaller lot sizes throughout the Northeast. Perhaps all the gingerbread is hiding the fact that this is still a colonial under the skin.

**Q: staircase construction help** *(in Building a Home)*

Hi 
does anyone know where I can find info on the building codes for stair construction? 
We are in a new construction home and noticed that several of the steps are not level. As in if we are walking down the stairs the tread is also slanted downwards. We put a leveler on the step and it is definitely not level. We are just wondering what is considered “normal” vs “abnormal”. We have small children and I haven’t felt safe walking down the stairs carrying them or having them walk themselves.

A: bellburgmaggie is right. I suggest that when purchasing a new home you have it inspected twice: First time before sheetrock, second time before closing. Most inspectors will make a fair arrangement for this.

**Q: Kitchen Help!  Not sure how to brighten it up?** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hi! I’m struggling with our kitchen. Last time I posted photos, everyone said to just change out the countertops. I’m wondering if anyone can Photoshop white countertops into our kitchen. Or maybe they can Photoshop the kitchen cabinets being white with white countertops. I just feel like the world is very overwhelming. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. thank you so much!

**Q: Fire Tables for deck** *(in Porches & Decks)*

I just had a beautiful new deck built and I would like to get a outdoor fire table.  There is no natural gas where I live, so it has to be propane.  Any ideas?  I would like to run a line rather than keep filling a tank and having to have a tank separate from the table ( ugly lines) .  And I want it to actually give off heat.   Any ideas?

A: Almost every home in my development has a fire pit. As long as you sit close to it, the warmth is enough to enjoy staying outside when it's 10 degrees below your comfort zone.
