> Working with O’ Connell Landscaping Services has been one of the most rewarding experiences we’ve had in 40 plus years of updating and enhancing our home. It’s hard to know where to begin. Our large yard was dated and overgrown. In our process of finding someone to tackle the job we interviewed several landscape design companies. Choosing Michael O’Connell to take on the project was by far the best decision that we could have made. Michael walked us through the process, listened to us, heard what we said and made happen what we wanted. He was flexible with the project, gave us options on materials and plants and kept us informed both on timing and costs from beginning to end. He and his crew were always professional and delivered quality work on time. Every small detail was taken care of, including a care booklet personalized to our yard that was given to us at the completion of the work. Our finished project is the reality of the vision we had in mind. We couldn’t be happier.

**★★★★★ — Jillian Penn, Dec. 2025**

> I couldn't be more pleased with the landscape design and installation Michael and his crew completed for my front yard. This property is my childhood home that I now rent out, so creating something both beautiful and practical was important to me.
> From our first conversation, Michael understood exactly what I needed: a water-efficient, low-maintenance landscape that would look great while staying within my budget. He provided excellent options and advice, ultimately designing a plan that checked all my boxes without exceeding what I could spend.
> What really stood out was Michael's approach to sharing his expertise. He explained the plant options and design choices in a way that helped me make informed decisions. The result is a yard filled with my favorite plants that I know will thrive with minimal care.
> His crew was thorough and professional, completely cleaning up the existing landscape before installing the new design. The transformation has been wonderful, and I'm confident this landscape will serve my tenants well for years to come.
> I highly recommend Michael and his team for anyone looking for thoughtful, budget-conscious landscape design backed by real expertise.

**★★★★★ — Sarah Nelson, May 2025**

> We had the absolute pleasure of working with O’Connell Landscaping, and I truly can’t recommend them highly enough! From the very beginning, they listened carefully to our wishes and turned our dream landscape into a stunning reality. Michael, the owner, met with us personally and took the time to understand both my vision for a more organic, flowy style and my husband’s preference for structure and clean lines. He struck the perfect balance between the two, creating a design that feels both natural and intentional.
>
> Michael provided us with several thoughtful plans tailored to different budget options, which was incredibly helpful. The communication throughout the entire process was excellent—clear, consistent, and customized to our needs. Whether it was in-person meetings, emails, drawings, photos, booklets, or videos, every format helped us feel informed and involved every step of the way.
>
> His team was prompt, professional, and respectful of our home and schedule. They even worked seamlessly around another crew we had on-site doing exterior painting. When unexpected weather interrupted their timeline, they adapted and got right back on track without compromising quality.
>
> The finished work on both our front and backyard is absolutely beautiful. They integrated new landscaping around existing patios and mature trees in a way that feels polished and cohesive. The flagstone pathways were installed with precision, and the irrigation and lighting systems are truly top notch. Every plant selected suits our local climate and soil, and they thoughtfully incorporated my personal style preferences. Even after the job was done, Michael followed through by replacing two plants that didn’t take root—just another example of their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
>
> We are beyond pleased with the results. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and care put into this project are evident everywhere you look. If you're looking for a landscaping company that is creative, communicative, reliable, and committed to doing things the right way, O’Connell Landscaping is the one to choose.

**★★★★★ — Annie and Phil Dennison, July 2024**

> From start to finish O’Connell Landscape delivered the best residential landscaping project we’ve ever experienced. Michael listened carefully to what we wanted for our sloped backyard in Cotati, then provided a beautiful, thorough plan - that also was adaptable when necessary. As retired people at home watching crew leader Ruben and his men working diligently every day, we saw the thoroughness, and precision, in their work as well. It was clear that Michael, Ruben and the crew were communicating about the project, making sure everyone was on the same page. The paved patio they did for us looks amazing. And Michael’s plant choices were spot on. Also, during all phases of the project Michael responded quickly and courteously to any of our questions/concerns - which were all relatively minor because it’s clear that he and Ruben have a lot of landscaping experience between them. We felt confidence in them, could relax while they did the job, and now we have a charming backyard to enjoy!

> We are very pleased with our experience with O’Connell Landscape. From the first site visit with Michael capturing in a video the many details of what we shared we wanted and what was envisioned, to the detail of their proposal, to the execution of the job, very thorough, and solution oriented. They were very easy to work with and very responsive. Their crew is hard working and detail oriented. Michael also worked with us to help identify areas for project savings and was very transparent in all areas of project costs. The design process was very collaborative and we benefited from Michael’s vision and experience. We are very pleased with the results!

> We had a great experience working with Michael and his team at O’Connell Landscape. We engaged O’Connell Landscape to renovate our front and backyard and couldn’t recommend the Company enough. From the outset, Michael’s approach was organized and detailed with proposal, planning, and execution. We appreciated his communication cadence and found the whole process to be very transparent. Michael’s crew were easy to work with and we appreciated their attention to detail. The final product far exceeded our expectations. We would work again with O’Connell Landscape in a heartbeat.

**★★★★★ — Shelley Cooper, Feb. 2023**

> We just had O'Connell Landscape complete a transformation of our backyard, shrinking the grass footprint, planting, mulching and adding hardscape. It looks amazing!
>
> Michael O'Connell and his crew were so responsive and professional. We are delighted!

> Working with O'Connell Landscape was the best experience I have ever had working with a residential contractor. They completely exceeded my expectations in terms of the design, the experience and the result. After moving to a home on Novato Creek, we wanted to reclaim our yard from a jungle of ivy and untended plantings, level it out, improve the drainage, and create a beautiful, useable yard. We wanted the project to include a patio, fire pit, sitting wall, paths, attractive retaining wail, and fountain. O'Connell gave us a design that incorporated all of our ideas, and worked with us to bring it into our budget. Once the job started and we inevitably wanted some changes, they gave us immediate feedback on the exact cost so we could make informed decisions. As the job went on, I realized that they had incorporated small design elements that made the yard even more beautiful than I had imagined. They worked on the yard consistently, never abandoning it to work on other projects, and got it done before Christmas, which I had hoped for but not expected. After the job they walked us through the yard to provide information on running the systems and maintaining the plants, and gave us written information and a video. Micheal O'Connell was easy to reach, very responsive, and the team was great. I can recommend them with no reservations.

> When I contemplated re-doing my worn out yard I knew I needed a firm that could manage a complete design-build project. Michael O'Connell of O'Connell Landscape exceeded all of my expectations.
> Michael is a pleasure to work with; talented, responsible, honest, attentive to detail and completely trustworthy.
>
> Michael used technology from the outset, filming my complete yard and emailing me a visual, verbal commentary of the planned work on each section of my property. (Who does that?!). He deftly managed my project from the initial consultation through ongoing work until completion. He has an eye for design and a command of all materials, organic and inorganic and the knowledge to bring a project through to completion and on budget.
>
> His crew is highly skilled, also attentive to detail, and pleasant to have around.
>
> Michael performed a miracle with my yard! I can whole-heartedly recommend Michael and O'Connell Landscape.

**★★★★★ — HU-582878356, Aug. 2022**

> I had a very vague concept of what I wanted for my backyard re-do. Michael O’Connell, with O’Connell Landscaping, met with me several times to get an idea as to my future plans with my yard. He came up with a plan that outlined what I wanted, was within the budget I set, and perfectly matched the surrounding areas of our family property. Prior to the commencement of work, Michael and I met several times to review the plans to ensure a smooth start to the project.
>
> During the project, Ruben and Ubaldo were there every day! They were friendly and answered all my questions. The attention to detail was amazing to watch as the work progressed.
>
> My project took 3 months, and it was seamless. My yard is beautiful, and I feel I’ve added another room to my house.
>
> I recommend O’Connell Landscaping to anyone who is looking for a trustworthy, friendly, and detail-oriented company.

> Working with Michael at O'Connell Landscape (OCL) was an absolute pleasure. He was extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of the work, collaborative, always managed our expectations, and used technology (website photo surveys, online forms, etc.) to roll thru the design process efficiently. OCL may not be the least expensive option out there, but if you want extremely professional work with an eye for quality control and responsiveness, you will find it here. He was able to make our vision into a reality that extended our usable space outdoors. We will definitely be working with OCL again!

**★★★★★ — HU-52917784, March 2021**

> I cannot recommend Michael O'Connell and his team enough. All of the work was done with the utmost integrity from start to finish. He was meticulous, organized, and knew exactly what I needed for my property. His depth and breadth of knowledge of agriculture, landscape, and carpentry is impressive. The transformation of my property was incredible. I started with a dirt lot and now I have an oasis I can relax in and enjoy every day. While he may not be the cheapest, he was worth every cent. I highly recommend you to contact him for your landscape needs!

This is a beautiful fountain.

A: That is a Mizubachi Granite Fountain from Stone Forest: https://stoneforest.com/collections/garden-fountains-benches-lanterns/products/garden-fountain-mizubachi-fountain-39-inch

**Q: I love this basalt stone fountain** *(in Photo Questions)*

where can i purchase this? how much, and can I get something similar but made of fiberglass to give the illusion of real stone

A: Without knowing where you are located, Blue Thumb is probably the best bet: https://shopbluethumb.com/index.php/

**Q: what type of stone on patio?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What size and color name?

A: That is irregular Arizona Flagstone, color Buckskin. Sold by the palette in sheets, available in the Western US.

**Q: square structure at back?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the concrete built up square structure at the back?

A: The rectangle in the background is actually a wood planter box.

**Q: Stone wall?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What stones are used for the retaining wall?

A: The best answer I could give would be to check with local stone yards or find local masons who have done historical projects. In California, 1950 is an old home, so it something we don't grapple with as frequently.
