**★★★★★ — Derrick Meyer, June 2018**

> A few months ago, our house had an unfortunate accident in the way of a slowly leaking dishwasher. The flooring on our upper level was destroyed as well as parts of our lower level. We knew the insurance would cover half of our upper level but debated on doing more since we would need to vacate our home anyway. We connected with Val from Tren-Des Designs and it was the best decision we could have made. Val helped us redesign much of our upper floor including a fabulous new kitchen. Through the process Val made the decision making easy. I had never been to the granite yards before. (If you haven’t either – I recommend giving Val a call. You won’t regret it!) Along the way we made some rookie mistakes which were quickly correct by Val. As for the service? Second to none. Val also assisted in purchasing the lighting, new Dining room table and chairs, window coverings and more. Val's services were very reasonable on their own, but when you take into account some of the discounts she gets from local suppliers, Val was a necessity. Our remodel would have cost thousands more without her help. Finally Val may have just saved my marriage. When my wife would ask my opinion on something regarding the remodel such as flooring or tile choices I was able to confidently say “Ask Val”
>
> And she did.
>
> And I am proud to say I am still happily married.
>
> I highly recommend Val’s services to anyone looking to make a change in their home.
> Thanks Val!

> Valerie is awesome to work with, from both the clients perspective as well as from a contractors point of view. She helps clients shop for fixtures and finishes which makes the contractors job easier, and allows a personal touch by the client. She does not have a "default style" so she is able to help clients make their home suit their own personal taste., rather than pushing a style they may not like on to them. She is able to figure out the best ways to use the space and suit the clients lifestyle.
>
> We have worked with Valerie on many projects over the last 2 years and recommend that all of our clients use her services when planning a renovation.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Kitchen Light Options** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have made some changes in my kitchen, but now I need lighting options. I want to put a chandelier over the sink, but I just don't know.
I painted the countertops black with splashes of silver. I have a black and white theme, I guess with a splash of yellow(lemons).

Tell me what you think!

A: I agree too much stuff around the sink. A great small chandelier would be fabulous I would use different window treatments.

**Q: Paint color for kitchen with espresso cabinets, neutral granite, lite tile floors?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

No kitchen windows, have blues/greens/neutrals in adjoining rooms. Should I leave it beige?

A: I am not sure how anyone can comment without seeing what is adjoining. Is it open concept? There needs to be more pictures and more information.before a paint decision can be made

**Q: This cottage got an updated kitchen by Allen Interiors & Design Center Inc. Tell us what you think.** *(in Before & After)*

We replaced the dated pine cabinets with Painted MDF cabinets, Silver Travertine Laminate Countertop, and a fantastic Backsplash.

A: Nice job. Budgets budgets budgets;-). Or the clients might just like the table ?

**Q: Before and After- Kitchen** *(in Before & After)*

Before and after photos of a kitchen project we worked on,. It is amazing how a space can be transform. What do you think?

A: You did a fantastic job! Good use of color and texture. Nice flow!

**Q: Our new granite and backsplash** *(in Before & After)*

We bought this house 4 years ago and we finally installed granite counter tops.

A: See a little change maximum impact! Fabulous use of dollars!

**Q: black appliances with black cabinents** *(in Before & After)*

I wasn't too crazy about my kitchen so I decided to do some simple upgrades to it. I kept all my black appliances and bought new light fixtures, new countertops/sink and I painted all the cabinents black. I actually like this new look. Not quite sure if I should add some type of backsplash or leave it like it is. What do you think?

A: Looks fabulous! The writing is a personal thing if you like it that it your choice!I would add a backsplash. Subway tiles always a classic
