What is the name of the tile? Thank you.** *(in Photo Questions)* A: Hello, this is an American Marazzi tile. **Q: size?** *(in Photo Questions)* How big is the heron tile? A: The hand painted porcelain Blue Heron is 6" x 12". This is also a bas relief tile. **Q: what an awesome sink! Can you tell me who makes it?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: It's a hammered copper sink that the homeowners provided as well as the faucet and cabinet. **Q: Shower seat** *(in Design Dilemma)* Is a 35" x 35" stall shower too small for a fold up bench? A: For smaller showers we like to install a 24" corner seat made by Better Bench. The corner seat is tiled and you do need to have blocking in the walls for support. It is a space saver. If you still want the folding bench seat I would suggest cutting out a cardboard template the exact size and placing in the shower so you can actually see the amount of space it takes up. It would be a tight fit. **Q: counter top** *(in Design Dilemma)* I am replacing my counter top with black granite. I can not decide if I should have a 4 in back splash of same or bring tile to counter top. I like both. I have a log home so it is more casual but I am conserned about the bottom where tile would meet counter. I do not want to have to replace the moulding or grout there due to dirt. my cabinets are oak A: Hi Jennifer, all good points to consider. As a tile and stone showroom I usually suggest to our clients that know they are tiling the backsplash not to have a stone riser. It keeps the look more open and doesn't detract. When we install tile to meet a stone counter we always use a silicone caulk to match the grout color. You're correct about the potential for grout to crack there, it always will at a 90 degree angle. Tell your tile installer to use the silicone and problem solved. **Q: Backsplash Help.** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi! We recently installed granite in our kitchen and are now getting ready to do a backsplash. Here are the two ideas my husband and I have picked out so far. One is all slate (which has my husbands vote because he think it is a timeless option and he loves natural stone) the other has a combination of glass and slate (this one has my vote because it is a bit more modern and I think pulls in the colours of the granite better). I am curious of others opinions on the two ideas we have come up with. We are also open to new ideas if you have any! :) Thanks in advance! A: Glad to hear you're going to a specialty tile store where there is a much better selection. I'd suggest using a 6x6" slate tile with a border of slate/glass linear mosaics. It will give a more open feel yet you will still have the accent of slate/glass. You should be able to find the same slate in the field tiles that are in the mosaics.
