I give Tory kudos. She's highly professional, she listens, she's price and budget sensitive, very conscientious, and fun to work with. Her team (assistant designer and office manager), are also terrific to work with and the studio is lovely -- lots of furniture and art give one great ideas and inspire creativity. I highly recommend this place. The work they've done for me in refreshing my dining room, family room, and guest bedroom has been stellar. We'll be glad to help! **Q: How would you spend $10k to improve this kitchen?** *(in Design Dilemma)* I would love to hear you advice! We are finally ready to tackle this kitchen that we are not in love with. The "orangish" tone of the cabinets bothered us since we moved in, but there were other priorities. Now we are considering painting it the cabinets. But there are so many questions... Color - stark white won't work, but should we go with an off white similar to the trim, or do we go a little tad darker? Glaze or not - we are trying to modernize the old world look where we feasible (i.e. we would change the banisters of the spiral staircase but that's too expensive) so we're leaning toward no glaze, but will they look cheap? Glass fronts - we're thinking about adding some glass fronts, would it look good to add only on top of the sink? Finally, to tie up the look, what else should we do? We could leave the island as is or paint it to match (or contrasting). We could also change the backsplash. We could add more $ and change the tropical brown granite in the outside countertops, but the granite is, of course, in good shape. We could spend even a little more, although not sure it's worth it, to change to a built in fridge. I hate that because I love our fridge, but sometimes is form over function. Any thoughts are much appreciated. A: New stools! A great fabric on some nice upholstered stool would liven up this room. A lighter wall color and new pendant fixtures. **Q: What should I do to this fireplace??** *(in Design Dilemma)* I'm going to be beginning a complete remodel on a new house soon and in a quandary as to what to do with this fireplace. It is so bulky and swallows up the entire room, but its non-working and I'm not sure if it worked at one time or it was always just decorative, so I'm hesitant to demo it as I'm not sure if I will find anything beneath it but wall (and I would still like to have a heart in the room). I will obviously remove the mirror above it, and I thought of just painting it and/or covering it in stone veneer (though not sure if that will work with these bricks) and maybe covering the cement mantel with a more contemporary wood overlay, but I really am hating the bulkiness of it and not sure what to do. Anyone have any ideas?? A: I would frame in some of the stone work add floor to ceiling shelving or cabinetry on both sides and paint all the finished wood white. The mirror should be framed or updated too. Having this wall completely framed in will make the room feel lighter and larger. Good luck! **Q: Finish decorating this bedroom** *(in Design Dilemma)* I have been in my new home since October and have purchased just about all of my larger pieces. Now I'm looking to tie it all together. I would like to finish my bedroom this weekend. I have a floor lamp from restoration hardware being delivered (it's a chandelier). Any other suggestions on finishing this space? A: Yes to adding some color! I would lean towards a creamy peach rather than pink for walls and adding a white bench with lots of texture like a faux fur. Add some pillows that have a large scale print with brighter colors like teal and coral. Have fun! **Q: Living room design** *(in Design Dilemma)* Not sure what to do in this living room. We want to put a tv in here. There will be a bar top and bar stools where the kitchen is located. A: We would suggest mounting your TV above the fire place - this gives you a focal point to base your floor plan off of. Your sofa can be on the wall opposite that with some chairs to create a seating area. Stop its from floating in the space with a great area rug and coffee table. The brick of the fireplace can be painted to allow it to either stand out and make a statement, or blend in with the walls. **Q: perfect medium gray.
