It was one of those situations where the apartment was aging, but everything was still functional. Initially we thought of only renovating the bathrooms, then we included the kitchen. One thing led to another and we decided to renovate the whole apartment. The cost would be much higher, but over the long term we would be enjoying a completely new apartment. The next difficult task was to find a reliable contractor. As this was our first apartment renovation, the internet was our main resource. We googled and located a few potential contractors. After performing due diligence and interviews, we decided to go with Level One. The main reason was that we lived in an apartment and their specialty is apartment renovations. They had also done a few projects in our building. So they knew our concierge and property management firm. Alex Dumitru of Level One was the contact person and Alex Robinson was our site manager. Both Alexes were professional, highly experienced and very efficient. Renovation in an high rise involved a lot of coordination. It was critical to protect the common area and to maintain cleanliness. This would include the elevator. All debris must be disposed properly. Alex also reached out to our adjacent neighbour and helped her with some minor work. The renovation was done smoothly even though the Covid 19 pandemic had resulted in product delays or the need to find substitutes. Renovation is all about workmanship and details. Level One definitely excelled in both areas. During the renovation, many details and finishes had to be adapted to deal with the apartment limitations. Alex gave us great workable solutions. When homeowners request changes and items above and beyond their budget, Level One’s course of action is to advise them of any red flags and allow them to make the decision. > > In addition, our policy is to provide a breakdown of all the work. This includes demolition, electrical, plumbing, drywall, installations, etc). You received this breakdown on June 4th. We also apply a cost to each subsection, which is broken down further into the specific work (i.e re-wiring of electrical, adding 23 new switches, etc). It is unfortunate that this was not detailed enough and would have loved for you to explain what aspect wasn’t clear. However, we never heard from you. > > Furthermore, we do not condone any sort of bullying or aggressive behavior from any staff member, owner or not. We’re upset that you feel we were bullies when we tried to collect the outstanding $5000.00 balance of the still unpaid design fee. As per the contract, the Level One team performed its obligations by providing you with a full set of design plans, specifications, materials plans, and millwork plans. > > Level One doesn’t take shortcuts. Level One doesn’t bypass city rules and regulations or the BC building code. Nor do we remove asbestos illegally like you had asked. At Level One, we do everything above board with transparency and properly permitted. We cannot at any point knowingly turn our back on this to accommodate a budget or a wish, as our credibility with past and potential clients will be ruined.
