**Q: Prices and where to buy inset cabinetry** *(in Building a Home)*

Hello everyone, 

My husband and I are currently in the process of pricing out our dream home, and I had an inspiration picture I gave to the builder of the ideal cabinetry in the kitchen, should the budget allow it. I met with the cabinet company he recommended and for the size kitchen (rather large at 15'8"x30'4"), the kitchen alone would've cost $137,000. They said the cabinets would be made somewhere in Ohio (I think), by a very high end Amish company. For the built-ins around the fireplace and all the bathroom cabinetry, it came out to over $210,000. These prices seem astronomical to me. I can't fathom spending more than the land, or what we paid for my current home on just cabinetry, but I'm afraid I've fallen in love with the inset cabinet look. Is there any way I could find the look of this inspiration picture for a reasonable price? What would be a reasonable price for a kitchen of this size and where would I find them? Thanks in advance for your help!

A: If cabinets would be made in Ohio that means  It would be installed by someone else?  And where are you located?

A: Hello,
 this table was made out of walnut solid wood 1-1/2" thick  There is no paneling or veneer in it.

**Q: Shower glass installer hit water pipe while drilling, help!** *(in Plumbing)*

We just completed a bathroom reno in our San Francisco victorian (we own the top unit of a 3 unit building). We were our own GC. We had 1 team come into do the  demo, drywall, and tile installation. We had an insured plumber complete all the plumbing work and fixture installation. The last step was just to have a shower glass installer complete the installation of the glass. 

The glass installer came out today and was drilling into the wall (note the wall adjacent to shower has  tiles). Our neighbor (unit below us) called us to report a leak (big yikes). Turns out the shower glass installer hit a pipe when he was drilling. The screws he was using were 2 inches. 

He indicated that this isn't his fault because (a) the pipes which are covered by drywall and tile should be far enough back, and (b) plumber should have put plates around the pipes as he installed the shower pan and knew generally that glass would be installed there. Note the plumber did put  plates on the studs, but there is still some exposure of the pipe) (see image)

Who is at fault for this? How should we approach this situation? :-(

**Q: Any Advice on Asking your Kitchen Cabinet Maker for a Cost Adjustment?** *(in Other)*

Eight months and still the cabinets are missing and/or damaged and I am still without a functioning kitchen.  I Designed and ordered the cabinets in November.  I was told that they do not install cabinets, so hubby agreed to.  Picked up the cabinets in December and over half of them were either broken, mis-sized or the wrong color.  The associate designer I was working with left the company without a word to us.  Three weeks of emails went unanswered and finally at my breaking point, I called the company and I reached a manager, who has been great.  As he re-ordered cabinets and doors there are still issues, that now we wait through another delay.  Also, just found out that the installation is complimentary, that was never offered to us. I spent over 11k on these cabinets.  After all is said and done, how would I ask for an adjustment to alleviate the frustration, delay and chaos that has impacted our lives for months.  Would it be insulting to ask for 15-20% adjustment?

A: We install everything we make and yes its calculated in to the price! You should ask for refund on the installation! Don't you have written contract with them ?

I am currently looking at replacing my kitchen cabinets with Kraftmaid, but wanted to get some quotes on custom / semi custom as well to see how they compare.  I've seen some older posts with some good names, but wanted to see who people are using today.
