> Extremely disappointed with Lucas Hanrath. Extremely unprofessional behavior.  Job was started late.  Multiple trades not paid by him although he was paid in full.  Innumerable  occasions when he stated he would be on site but never showed up. Some days trades were waiting for him on the job for supplies for hours on end,  with nothing to do because he did not bring supplies.  The only work he did himself was incredibly badly done,  poorly thought out, and done in a hurry and had to be completely removed and done again by someone else. Provided many unbelievable excuses  as to why things were not done on time or as to why he would not show up when he stated he would. Would only become available transiently if when he thought he could get more money from us.  Obtained fake invoice from supplier in order to embezzle more money for a door which cost a third of what he tried to get from us, and ultimately he ordered the wrong door anyway.  Ultimately, had to fire him and we were extremely pleased to do so.  Trades that worked for him, are still contacting us, and dropping by hoping to be paid, and wondering where he is.... Job started in July, 2015, and still not finished.  I could go on and on.  I gather in the past that he did good work, and it was reliable. I wonder what happened to him.

> Stay away from this builder.  He is unreliable.  Started a large, high-end basement renovation this year in April 2015 which was to be done by June 30, 2015.  The job is half done but 90% paid.  Lucas Hanrath does not answer our phone calls or e-mails, has moved out of his house, and has told us through one of his sub-trades that he cannot complete our project.  He has left us high and dry and now his trades are calling us because, although he took our money, he has not paid his guys.

> Hired this company to do tenant improvements in a professional office space.  Originally was easy to work with and accommodating to any changes needed as build went along.  Approaching opening day, promised to have things finished, but had not completed project.  Window casings and baseboards only half done.  window framing and glass installation unfinished.  Wrong door swing ordered and not fixed.  Washroom unfinished. City inspections failed because of improper or incomplete work.  Over 4 weeks go by without any work done and I have to work in an unfinished space.  Lame excuses one after another, and eventually stops returning calls/texts.

Lucas researches all the different options and then presents these to his clients, so they have choices. He is always on top of delivery dates and times to make sure products arrive when they are suppose too. He his is very professional, and I would hire him to do work for me.

**Q: Want to distress our fireplace bricks** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Right now they are very red & rectangular.  We'd like them to look a little more vintage/distressed.  Is there a technique or chemical we can use to do this? (Sorry the image stinks)

A: Hey Lenore,
There are a couple things you can do to get the distressed look on your backsplash.
1\. for a light distressed look take an orbital sander with a heavy grit sand paper (20 grit) and run the sander over the brick. This gives it the appearance of a weathered heritage look.
2\. If you want it to look like something that just came out of the rock quarry then take a grinder with a diamond polish wheel. Careful with this technique as it will literally take pieces out of the stone

Hi!  What type of backsplash will look best with River White granite and white shaker cabinets?

A: Hey Heather,
There are many types of tile that work well with your colors, it all depends on the style you are going with.
For more modern contemporary i would recommend white subway tile

For a traditional look i would recommend and white/grey marble
for craftsman style i would go with a split face stone

Can I change the ugly vent on the back of my house?  Can I have it vented up with a chimney?

A: Your right that is not good, if your planning on a screened in area you should definitely move it. 
It will be overly hot and and fumy in that area,

Heres cool idea for some wall art, we got it from ikea and everyone who sees it has loved it 
its a 4' x 6' wall hung canvas and cost 180$

What is causing horrible squeaking with every step. Followed manufacturers installation.

A: Depending on how it was installed if the waterproofing if its up underneath the decking then the issue would be that the water proofing material would be rubbing against the mounting system causing the squeaks.
That is just a best educated guess though based on the pics.
