Through the wall air conditioners run similarly to window units, by retrieving air, running it through coils, then sending the cooled air into the room. They are installed in a hole in an exterior wall, and require installation of a sleeve due to their weight.

These units have a BTU range between 7,000 to 15,000, with a coverage area between 200 to 800 square feet.

Lasts a long time and is a longer term solution
Easy to replace when you have an existing sleeve and most units are industry standard sizes

Pro: Cooling Capacity
Wall air conditioners tend to have better cooling capacity than their window counterparts. With more BTUs and better fans, wall units can often cool a room faster. With internal thermostats, they also have the ability to shut off when the room reaches a certain temperature, saving you money in utility costs.

A: The ductless Friedrich mini split air conditioners are VERY energy efficient. SEER ratings as high as 25.  As a comparison... imagine an automobile getting 100 miles per gallon.

**Q: Designing around an air conditioner in a condo** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Help! This is my living room/dining room. The door leads out onto a patio so it can't really be barred by anything. And yes, that light is placed in the middle of nowhere. The wall opposite the air conditioning unit is just one long wall without any windows. There is a big bay window to the left of the image, and my open kitchen with an island is to the right. How should I arrange furniture here? The attached picture with the furniture is not mine but gives you an idea of what the room size is. 

For furniture I have 2 three-person sofas, side tables, a huge 48'' flatscreen tv, and a console table, and an old country style oval kitchen table that can seat 4.

Ideas?

A: Nearly any type of visual screen placed in front of an air conditioner will prove to be very problematic.
