My family and I stumbled up he and his wife's store, where I found a gorgeous silver buffet with a black top (I believe it is pictured on Houzz under his photos). He ever so graciously took the buffet back to Houston, because we had no more room to take it home, so I could come pick it up later. We kept in touch about picking up the buffet with the idea in mind that I was possibly interested in a custom top zinc table. I never had any luck finding a dining room table I just fell in love with and loved the idea of a zinc top table and having something different that we could design ourselves. BEST. DECISION. EVER! The day we went to pick up the buffet, he walked us through the whole process of how he makes the custom zinc tops (construction, cut, wash, etc..) talked with us about price, showed us all of his work and so on. One table in particular stuck out with large black antique legs. We left and I bet not even 5 minutes later Dewey had already messaged me a pair of antique table legs he had found on Craigslist for us to use for the table we were only thinking about at that point, but the legs did it for us, and we decided to go ahead. He kept in touch via text, e-mail, phone calls, and even Facebook through the whole process. He even drew out our new dining room with all of the measurements and recommendations, posted photos and descriptions every single week on Facebook. We are thrilled about our new dining room table for our first home together! He couldn't have done a better job on the table itself, his wife white washed the legs perfectly to match our dining room chairs, and the zinc top is more than perfect and BEAUTIFUL! We're so ready to get it and the beautiful buffet into the house and show them off to everyone. After designing a simple table base and having it made locally (Dallas area), I could not find anyone who was experienced with zinc fabrication, so I ventured outside the Dallas area for my search and stumbled on Fitzgerald's. I communicated several times with the owner, Dewey Fitzgerald, discussing my design details and gaining an understanding of how the zinc patina develops over time. Then he built and shipped the most beautiful zinc tabletop I have ever seen. It was exactly as I had envisioned and the craftsmanship is exceptional -- entirely hand made! I chose to leave the zinc in its natural state (no sealer) so it will age and darken over time, taking on the warmth and character of an old French bar top. Contracting with Fitzgerald's for my zinc tabletop was one of the smartest design decisions I have ever made. My husband and I will enjoy our table for years.
