## Selected projects

- [A Western Run Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/a-western-run-residence-pj-vj~21369)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 19
  - Description: This home organizes a site with great views but little other distinction (open pasture with no trees). The plan stretches into a U-shape to create an entry court-like space off a shared driveway. This configuration also creates the opportunity to provide a varied, every-day journey from the first-floor Master Suite at one end of the plan to the Family Room and Kitchen at the other end. The journey's counterpoints progress from a walk down a hall long enough to be enlivened by an alternating rhyt…
- [Valley Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/valley-residence-pj-vj~85438)
  - Location: Timonium, MD
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: A classic mid-century split-level has been renovated and expanded above and below to create new family living and sleeping areas. The use of natural, authentic materials and careful attention to detail inside and out adds craft, richness, and depth to the home's modern frame. The new eat-in kitchen and family room occupy an open, reconfigured lower level full of light, views, and varied experiences.
- [Greenspring Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/greenspring-residence-pj-vj~85398)
  - Location: Owings Mills, MD
  - Photos: 4
  - Description: This 1950's brick ranch was renovated and expanded in all directions. Work included creating a new kitchen/family area and adding a screen porch and master suite. The new family area's raised roof and clerestory varies the spatial experience in the house and organizes the roof drainage at a critical exterior juncture of forms. The reconfigured home now fully engages the surrounding landscape and captures light to an extent not usually associated with traditional ranch design.
- [Woods Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/woods-residence-pj-vj~21375)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: This house takes advantage of its sloped site by using a multi-level design to efficiently spend the budget and provide a variety of interactions with the woods. The lower level houses Family space and the Master Suite; it connects through the rear to grade and pathways down to a brook. The middle level is the Entry level; it houses informal entertainment space, including space for dancing (an expanded Foyer) and a Guest Bedroom. The upper level is for work at home, housing an office and studio;…
- [Pikesville Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/pikesville-residence-pj-vj~39572)
  - Location: Baltimore, MD
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: This addition moves a second-floor Master Suite down to the first floor and connects it to the existing Kitchen and Family Room by way of a new, bright sunroom. Attention was paid to open the house to its wooded site through the use of large windows and the addition of a hexagonal Screen Porch, balcony, and a lower deck that extends the addition's new, finished basement space out onto the site.
- [Lutherville Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lutherville-residence-pj-vj~39657)
  - Location: Lutherville, MD
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: This new European provincial style home carefully mixes masonry materials--stucco, stone, and brick--to lend weight, richness, and authenticity to both the exterior and interior. Though traditional, the main living areas--Family and Kitchen--are open planned using varied ceiling volumes and structures to define specific places within the whole for different activities and experiences.
- [Woodvalley Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/woodvalley-residence-pj-vj~39650)
  - Location: Baltimore, MD
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: This formerly sad suburban home was transformed with a Kitchen expansion and addition of Laundry, Mud Room, Garage (with Exercise Room and Study above), and Front Porch. Complete renovations of the entry and exterior, mixing shingles with board and batten siding and introducing angled piers in place of standard columns, gave new life to the dowdy street face. Inside, the new Kitchen is connected to the Family Room and opened through a wall of glass to a new deck off the Breakfast area.
- [Farmhouse Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/farmhouse-residence-pj-vj~39584)
  - Location: Phoenix, MD
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: This new home has been designed to look like an old farmhouse that has been added to and renovated. The distinctive stair appears on the exterior as a two-story glass corner that travels up through an opening in the porch roof. Authentic materials--stone, brick, wood--and varied spatial experiences enrich the modest, straightforward interiors.
- [Mansel Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/mansel-residence-pj-vj~39576)
  - Location: Reisterstown, MD
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: This one-story, contemporary addition and partial renovation to a typical, two-story, traditional suburban home creates a backyard oasis for enjoying sunshine and breezes filtered by the surrounding wood. Inside, a greatly expanded and re-imagined Kitchen opens to the site through large expanses of glass and to a two-story Family Room brightened with new clerestory windows. Two lower bay spaces with sloped ceilings have been added at the Family Room's edges. One holds a fireplace and bookshelves…
- [Glen Arm Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/glen-arm-residence-pj-vj~21373)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: This whole-house renovation of a 1960's modern ranch opens the interior through the use of walls angled to allow views and activities to flow from space to space and out to the exterior. Views connect the exteriors from opposite sides of the house. A palette of authentic materials -- wood, metal, stone -- confers weight, warmth, depth, and detail. As a nod to the homeowner's interest in Japanese design, the floor has been detailed to recall Japanese sand gardens. Stepping stones of slate have be…
- [Hunt Country Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/hunt-country-residence-pj-vj~21386)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: This home is designed as a collection of connected buildings to break down scale and promote privacy. A palette of natural materials creates feelings of warmth and authenticity. Special attention is given to the experience of moving from place to place. Changing views and a variety of spaces -- differing heights, curved wall, differing textures -- keep the experience interesting, taking attention away from the distances traveled. Timber framing provides interest, scale, and detail in the large s…
- [Ruxton Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/ruxton-residence-pj-vj~21535)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 15
  - Description: This rescue and complete renovation (with additions) of a derelict house reorganizes the plan around a new three-story Foyer/Stair Hall that contains a suspended wood staircase. This central space connects all the major rooms and pathways on all levels of the home. The exterior style suggests Tuscany. The interior has been opened to accommodate the casual lifestyle of an active young family but still retains some older details such as the arched openings (formerly two recessed book cases flankin…
- [Greenspring Valley Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/greenspring-valley-residence-pj-vj~21794)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: This addition and renovation gives some grace and tradition to a formerly spare, utilitarian plantation style house. A new Kitchen/Family Room, Mud Hall, and Garage comprise a traditional "telescope" addition to one side of the home's original two-story rectangular mass. A simple, arched portico replaces an ungainly two-story entry porch and the entire interior has been reworked for easy movement and living made gracious by new, rich finishes, including plaster walls and hardwood floors.
- [Park Heights Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/park-heights-residence-pj-vj~21796)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: This home sits on what was a barren bluff surrounded by other homes and an altered landscape of little interest. Therefore, it turns inward, its rooms arranged around a central, plant-filled stair hall. A palette of rich, authentic materials rendered craftsman-like keeps the home's interior experience warm and natural. Careful placement of windows, some hung from cantilevered floor joists above, others lowered to relate to seated occupants at the Dining and Kitchen tables, provide a variety of v…
- [River Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/river-residence-pj-vj~22856)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: A mundane, 1960's ranch with spectacular river views has been transformed into an exciting beach house for all seasons with additions of a second story and expansive river-facing porch.
