### Reviews

> My wife and I had an ambitious goal to create a space that kept our home's original footprint but updated with a modern aesthetic.
> We hired The Works and Gregor after a thorough review process.
> As with most renovations, both the time and budget extended but that was often a result of project adds and shifts throughout the renovation period.
> Gregor was able to find solutions for a number of unique design requests including cost efficiencies, performance benefits and design aesthetics.
> The best part of Gregor's approach was his calm demeanor to the inevitable issues that pop up with every project of this scale.
> He extended himself beyond Contractor and helped solve design issues when there were none.
> Gregor had access to sub-Contractors who delivered beautiful quality with bespoke craft, especially the wood work both inside and out.
> We also appreciated how professional his workers were around our home. While we were not living there during the renovation period, he kept the space organized and tidy, much better than some of the projects I see in our neighborhood.
> Often, it's the last 5% of a reno that drags beyond your move in date and while this was the case, it was often Gregor himself who came by to ensure the work was done properly and completely.
> Some context for the scope of the job - Our renovation took 12 months from demolition to move in. We receive comments from neighbors and strangers alike. Gregor's work in concert with Turn Design made our home one we are proud to call ours.
> I would recommend him and his ability to see a vision through to completion.

> In 2010, my 94-year-old mother secured The Works for a remodel of our upstairs -- finish attic, update bedroom, add new bathroom...in addition Gregor secured staff to put on a new roof and gutters at our home...excellent work...they cleaned up after themselves each day...they laid plastic over our carpets to minimize problems. The bid was below other companies by thousands of dollars and quality work done. He gave my mother flowers upon completion. In 2016, we decided to remodel our kitchen and did not seek bids from other companies because we knew that Gregor Mitchell and The Works will perform quality work. We repurposed a smallish kitchen with double cabinet and countertop space. We are very satisfied.

> Gregor and his team remodeled our 1937 home from top to bottom – quite literally – the project included everything from digging out the basement to add ceiling height and rebuilding the footings, to converting an unused attic into a gorgeous office and playroom. Gregor worked with us from spring of 2013 until we moved in to the home in January of 2015, and there wasn't a day on which he wasn't reachable – I've never worked with anyone so responsive. And every day on the project with Gregor is a dream come true – he is friendly, upbeat, resourceful, pragmatic and polite. He went above and beyond to provide transparency and options to us as snags developed along the way (as they always do). I can't say enough good things about The Works and hope to work with them on another full-house remodel some day.

> The works did a complete kitchen remodel for us. Second project they have done in the past 4 years. They are very thorough and deliver as promised. We use The Works because they are honest, trustworthy, communicate and of course do quality work.

> It was our first new home together. A massive remodel / rebuild. We were definitely in over our heads and totally stressed out. But Gregor and Kris ( The Works) made the process easier than we thought possible. They were highly organized, calm, and friendly the entire duration. They expertly navigated around some structural mistakes from the architect, gave smart, tasteful design recommendations and greatly improved the overall vision. It was our first experience with a contractor where we felt we could trust them completely. I would highly recommend them for your job.

> We hired Gregor and his company, The Works, in July 2013 to remodel our recently purchased mid-century home. This was our first whole house remodel. Gregor helped us envision and design the interior by removing walls and changing a bedroom into the master bath. They put in new plumbing, electrical including lighting, windows and doors, a new kitchen and 2.5 bathrooms. Gregor, his crew and subcontractors were professional and did a great job. His plumbing, tile and electrical contractors were excellent. We did hire our own interior designer to help us select paint colors, counter tops, and carpeting. Overall we are thrilled with our home. It took about 9 months to completely finish the remodel. We did not live there during this remodel making it much easier for us and them. We highly recommend Gregor, Kris and the team.

> We hired The Works to remodel our 1960 ranch-style home. The remodel included updating the systems, minor structural work, new flooring, complete kitchen remodel, gut remodel of two bathrooms, the addition of a powder room, new windows and doors and painting inside and out. The project took approximately 7 months.
>
> From the beginning, Gregor had thoughtful suggestions for modernizing our home while maintaining some of the original features that we loved about our house. Since we weren't working with an architect or interior designer, finding a contractor that understood what we wanted to accomplish was very important to us. As we were sourcing materials, Gregor was able to make suggestions of less expensive materials and help us source material that we had trouble locating. His opinion was very valuable when we weren't sure about materials or other decisions. Gregor did a great job coming up with a layout for our kitchen and the cabinet makers he works with are fantastic. We showed him several inspiration photos and he was able to take that information to the cabinet makers who created exactly what we wanted. Gregor was easy to communicate with. He was quick to reply over text, email or phone.
>
> We didn't live in the house for most of the remodel, but there was a bit of work that happened after we moved in. All of the subcontractors were timely, nice and respectful of our family's schedule. We were impressed with the quality of work and professionalism of the subcontractors. The painters did a fantastic job and came back several times to fix the smallest of imperfections, most of which were small things that we didn't noticed.
>
> We didn't have any surprises with the budget. Gregor clearly communicated any changes that were over budget and worked with us to find ways to save money. The project was completed within a few weeks of the original completion estimate.
>
> The Works did a great job remodeling our house and we are very happy with how everything turned out. We would highly recommend working with The Works.

**★★★★★ — Jack Barnes Architect, PC, Oct. 2013**

> I've had the pleasure of collaborating with The Works on several remodels and additions, and I never hesitate to recommend Gregor and his team to my clients.
>
> They bring a high level of professionalism to their projects, and I have found them to be honest with customers and a valued creative partner. No matter how thorough I am with my design, there are always some details that need to be determined on the job site, and I trust The Works to approach these details with care and craft. Remodeling also involves a lot of uncertainty and surprises, and I appreciate the way Gregor contacts me in well advance with creative solutions rather than simply allowing these surprises to become costly problems.
>
> I've also been consistently impressed with the quality of work provided by The Works and their subcontractors – Gregor has done an exceptional job of finding great value in these trades. I look forward to our next collaboration!

**★★★★★ — MADE, Inc., July 2013**

> MADE has had the pleasure of working with The Works in the past, and our experience was exceptional. The project was well run, the schedule updated regularly, and the coordination of trades was smooth as silk. One particular project was in a high-rise loft, so in addition to typical challenges brought forth in a construction project, we also had added complications of building access, loading and unloading tools and materials, and site protection. The Works assisted us in all of these matters, and made sure the client was fully up to date on our progress.
>
> In short, The Works was very professional and organized, and I look forward to more opportunities in the future. If you are considering a GC for your project, I would highly recommend using The Works!

**★★★★★ — kara\_s, June 2013**

> We did a large remodel on our 1927 house with Gregor and his company The Works. He definitely helped to make it a fairly smooth experience with good responsiveness and oversight of the project. What puts him a notch above other contractors is that he has a great aesthetic sense and is very detail-oriented...I was very comfortable with his recommendations and choices. Also--I think one of the best compliments for him and his crew was that throughout our 8 month project (we were not living at the house), our neighbors had no complaints about the workers and felt they were very thoughtful to keep the street clean and as unobstructed as possible during construction. We live on a very narrow road, so that takes extra effort! Gregor was patient with all our questions since we had never done a remodel before, communicated well with us, and worked effectively with our architect. Best of all, we really love the results of the remodel and it's holding up under the wear and tear of our young kids!

**★★★★★ — Lincoln Barbour, May 2013**

> The Works is one the best contractors in Portland. Their incredibly thorough and their craftsmanship is top notch. We are so happy with our two bathroom remodels.

**★★★★★ — irene\_sandler6027, May 2013**

> Gregor Mitchell and his company, The Works, renovated our basement, adding a full floor of livable space to our house, built in 1937. He also renovated our upstairs bathroom by stripping it down to the studs.
>
> Attention to detail is incredible and superb customer service. They were even able to create a double-sink vanity out of my drawings. Gregor advised me on where to go to look for samples (tile, floor, etc.) and recommended alternatives when the choices I liked were beyond the budget. They even managed my errors: I chose a sink online that was too large for the space, and Gregor was kind enough to visit a plumbing showroom with me to find a more appropriate sink.
>
> The best part is the daily clean-up. It was amazingly easy to live with all of this construction going on.
>
> As a result, we've go to Gregor for a number of smaller project, from building built-in bookcases that match original trim to fitting in a custom stained-glass window into a solid door.
