> Working with Audrey was great. We first talked to a different landscape architect, and they didn't seem to understand what we were looking for/ seemed to be pushing for a larger unnecessary scope. Audrey was a great listener, and tailored her scope to exactly what we needed. She took our general design ideas and transformed them into a wonderful planting plan. She also did a great job overseeing the actual installation. Would definitely work with her again.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Thanks so much to you and Laura. Agreed that it was a pleasure working with you. Thanks also for giving me the opportunity and your trust to develop a native ecological garden. Cant wait for you to see the colorful surprises that will unfold as it settles in.

> Saying I love my new yard would be an understatement. The photos pretty much say it all. Audrey was great to work with and designed something I never thought my yard could become. I wanted something that made the most of my limited space, worked with the changes in elevation, and was also smart about water usage. I love how the multi-level deck connects the different sections of the yard and how the plants will eventually grow to add privacy I never had before.

**★★★★★ — Pete, Sept. 2024**

> Audrey replaced my neglected brown front lawn (a casualty of the drought) with a Zen minimalist garden of 3 Japanese maple trees as the focal point surrounded by vibrant shrubs and seasonal ground covering.
>
> My neighbors and even a gardener have been complimenting me on the new landscape.
>
> My HOA wanted this front yard eyesore gone in 30 days. Audrey came to the rescue and met my needs beyond expectation. My communications with Audrey was easy and entirely via email. I sent her pictures and dimensions so she did not have to do a site visit at a location that is 30 miles away.
>
> I highly recommend Audrey at the Foxy Garden if you need a quick simple elegant colorful landscape design.

**★★★★★ — Gail Kurtz, Aug. 2024**

> I'm thrilled with the garden Audrey designed for me. She tailored it to my particular tastes in color and style (I like a lot of flowers), and it is gorgeous. For years I'd struggled to design the garden myself, but it just never came together, so Audrey used some of my existing plants and created a design that realized what I had long been trying to do. It flows beautifully, has a very interesting color palette, and gives me pleasure every time I walk up to my front door. On top of that, I really enjoyed working with Audrey. She's professional, kind, and fun to talk to. You'll love her and her work!

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Gail,
> Thank you!
> The pleasure was truly all mine. How satisfying to provide professional direction to an avid gardener! Also wonderful to help you engage further in your garden. Nothing quite like garden soil under your fingernails to help one feel grounded!

**★★★★★ — Bryce, Aug. 2024**

> We'd been in love with Audrey's work for many years in our neighborhood without knowing who was behind it. Audrey worked hard to understand our goals, budget, and values (natives!! edibles!!). Her design process using hand drawn top-down views of the garden helped us section our 1000 sq into 5 or 6 different zones that are cozy and relaxing. This is benefit of working with a professional, Audrey really knew how to carve our harshly rectangular space into organic zones that flow together, and are beautiful! Despite needing to hire a separate contractor, I have no regrets about two separate contracts. Audrey was able to find a wonderful contractor for us who also shared our values for sustainable landscaping (paper, not plastic landscaping fabric; no extra material went to the landfill) and brought some wonderful touches of their own. We would highly recommend Audrey for any residential landscaping project where a small space needs to be both beautiful and functional.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Thanks so much Bryce! It was an absolute pleasure working with you and Emilie. I look forward to seeing the garden settle in and hearing about how your family inhabits the space. Have fun with those espalier fruits! Keep me posted.

**★★★★★ — Dolores St. Garden Refresh, July 2024**

> Audrey has phenomenal design skills and a total grasp of plants that will work well for whatever criteria you specify - low water, low maintenance, hardiness, etc etc.
>
> She designed our original garden over 10 years ago and had to manage 4 different co-owner personalities with 4 different goals for the garden - hardscape-forward, softscape-forward, sun lovers, sun haters etc. What a challenge! And to top it off some of the co-owners had some pretty odd requirements, for example, save broken-down concrete in one section because it had been there so long they felt it belonged there, sort of like ruins.
>
> Of course with criteria like that, two garden designers had already quit but The Foxy Garden came through with an amazing design that all who see it compliment.
>
> Fast forward, after over 10 years of pretty bad neglect (mow-and-blow gardener who did not maintain the plants), we asked for a thorough refresh of the plants and The Foxy Garden delivered. The garden is once again lovely and the envy of all who see it. And most important, all four owners are happy.

**★★★★★ — André Arko, July 2024**

> Audrey was fantastic to work with and designed a beautiful garden space for us, and we are extremely happy with the results!

**★★★★★ — Karen Wagstaffe, Jan. 2023**

> Audrey is a wonderful landscape designer and a pleasure to work with. She helped us with a "refresh" of our landscaping, which sometimes can be more challenging than working with a blank slate, and her ideas and additions had a big impact, taking our landscaping to a whole new level. Her commitment to sustainable practices was important to us, and our existing and new planting have thrived with the improvements to our soil. We are so happy we found Audrey and had the opportunity to work with her. Highly recommend her!

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Thanks so much, Karen. It was a pleasure working with you too. I look quite forward to seeing all the different areas settle in. Happy 2023!

**★★★★★ — Brad Vaughn, Dec. 2022**

> Audrey was great to work with- Design was great; Took our feedback and executed very efficiently. We are very pleased with our new courtyard!

**★★★★★ — gitta56, Dec. 2022**

> We've worked with Audrey on multiple occasions – about 10 years ago to completely redo our garden (it was a big nothing!), for ongoing recommendations, and most recently to do a refresh of many plants and create a hang-out space in the back using repurposed wood from our no-longer-needed treehouse (which was part of the original redo).
>
> She has the BEST ideas, a keen eye for making beautiful outdoor spaces and is a pleasure to work with. Our garden is the best room in our house! We're recommended her to many friends who have also been thrilled with the outcome.
>
> This last go round, I told Audrey I didn't even need to be very involved in decisions – I trust her implicitly to make great plant selections, place them expertly and create a space that is welcoming and beautiful.
>
> We've gotten so many compliments over the years – I dare say we have one of the best backyard gardens I've seen in our neighborhood – and I'd recommend Audrey without hesitation for any project, large or small.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Five star client! Thanks so much Gitta. I hope you know it continues to be a pleasure to work with you. Its my honor.

**★★★★★ — Mary Taillac, Dec. 2022**

> For about three years I had been thinking of converting my thirsty front lawn to drought tolerant. Recently I interviewed a few landscaping designers, but we didn't really "click". Then I interviewed Audrey who understood what I had in mind and with her artistic talent created a design I never could have imagined. Her use of hardscape complements the plants and adds another dimension. She was able to keep within my budget and the results are stunning. I even have had a few people ask for a referral.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> It was a pleasure working with you as well, Mary and its ALWAYS a pleasure replacing a thirsty lawn with a drought tolerant garden. I very much look forward to watching your baby garden grow into an eyeful of texture, color and shapes.

**★★★★★ — Heather Hardie, Nov. 2022**

> We are still in the middle of our project, but have made several attempts to work with landscape designers previously, and Audrey has surpassed them all. She is creative, and wonderful to work with. Her contractors have also been great to work with and are remarkably fast. She has carried our interior style into our backyard in order to create a truly fluid and functional inside/outside environment. Can not wait to see the completed project. Will post photos!

**★★★★★ — Theodore McCullough, Nov. 2022**

> Audrey excels at taking a project from conception to completion, and lining up the requisite support (read contractors) to execute. Further, she is a joy to work with and is dedicated to seeing a project to completion. Would definitely hire again!

**★★★★★ — mayabourdeau, March 2022**

> Audrey was the best garden designer to work with! She was so thoughtful and creative when faced with our challenging project (a small plot where we wanted to fit many different elements, including a guinea pig hutch, large trampoline, hot/cold tubs and dining area). She came up with so many creative ideas to make the space multifunctional so a little room went a long way! She's also just a pleasure to work with - calm, kind, extremely ethical and super smart. I would recommend her to anyone - we had such fun in the process, and I couldn't be more pleased with the design!

**★★★★★ — Emily Gerth Gibbs, Dec. 2021**

> Audrey did a fantastic job helping us redesign our front and back yard spaces. We were really starting with a blank slate -- a weedy, bare yard and a desire to replace it with something other than lawn. She helped us think about our needs -- kid-friendly, low maintenance, and staying in budget -- and how to design something suited to some challenging site conditions (windy and foggy spot, wanting to be drought-tolerant, needing to deal with the weeds) in San Bruno. She also connected us with a great contractor to implement and stayed in touch to help us identify any needed plant or materials replacements given the vagaries of pandemic supply chains. I've already gotten compliments from the neighbors on the new look and we're excited to see how it grows in. Thanks Audrey!

**★★★★★ — drjjfisher, Dec. 2021**

> Audrey Newell is not only a talented landscape designer, she is also a joy to work with! She really listens to her clients and incorporates their preferences into unique and beautiful designs. My garden is absolutely beautiful and a joy to see every day. It lifts my spirits during these challenging times when we are all at home so much.

**★★★★★ — ktasey, Oct. 2021**

> Audrey did an excellent job with the design of our backyard. She is knowledgeable, listened well, and delivered a design reflecting what we were looking for. The entire process was well organized, with documentation with pictures and plant information that enabled us to make decisions with our choices. The gardeners were able to follow her detailed planting plan to a tee and did a wonderful job.

**★★★★★ — Chris, Oct. 2021**

> Audrey was terrific to work with. She transformed our backyard from a rat's nest to a beautiful and intelligently-arranged place that we love being in. She helped us visualize what it could look like, consulted on every single plant, and then made sure it all happened. Very meticulous and thoughtful, and easy to work with. Strong recommend.

**★★★★★ — Iris Bucchioni, May 2021**

> The landscaping of our front and back-yard was the last thing remaining to restore the dilapidated fixer-upper we bought to the Grand Arts & Crafts home of 1912. I was looking for a local landscape designer and came across Audrey's web site and liked what I saw. When we met we immediately clicked and she knew what I wanted before I did. She understood my style. Audrey is patient, professional, easy to work with, and makes sure things are done well. Her design for the lay-out of our garden is gorgeous. She came up with a wonderful idea for the pond, which is the center of our garden in back, and made it flow with the planting beds and the gravel paths. We selected plants that grow well in our climate and she grouped them depending on color, water needs, plant structure, ...
> I enjoy gardening and whenever I am in our front garden I receive compliments from passers-by. We don't have a "yard" anymore, it is a beautiful GARDEN, and last but not least, it is easy to maintain! Audrey is a wonderful person to work with and I highly recommend her to realize your dream garden.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Thank you for the wonderful review. As you know, it was my pleasure working with you as well. Its great to see the front garden's progress and I totally look forward to watching the back fill in and take on its own personality. Great picture you posted, by the way.

**★★★★★ — Guy Chicoine, May 2021**

> Audrey was patient and meticulous as she worked to understand what we were looking for, while allowing us to change as things developed. She provided a personal catalogue of plants that she thought we would enjoy given our preferences and also would thrive given our location and was extremely creative with the containers she brought forward. We actually use the garden quite a bit and we live in the fog belt of SF. We really love what she has done and will enjoy it for years to come.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Wonderful working with you, Guy. You pushed over my color limit and I loved it! Im so glad you and Cori are enjoying it.

**★★★★★ — runneboom, May 2021**

> Audrey is a great landscape designer. She helped us design the front of our home, including selecting plants and trees for plant boxes, a patio terrace, a deck, and the sidewalk. Audrey quickly understood what both my husband and I like (and don't like), helping us to blend our styles. She really knows plants and amazing at planter selection. I look forward to working with her again on other projects.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> It was my pleasure working with you, Cheryl! I look forward to to roof deck and back garden.

**★★★★★ — amy lauer, May 2019**

> Audrey is an incredibly talented landscape designer who is connected with industry experts. She started working with us by listening to what we loved, getting an understanding of how we live, and then putting "pen to paper." Her team and associates brought the vision to life, and we could not be happier.

**★★★★★ — Plum Architects, May 2019**

> We have worked with The Foxy Gardens on four very different projects in the last 18 months, each with a beautiful and successful outcome. Audrey's background in both art and science makes her detail oriented while maintaining an overall vision. She is super knowledgeable about native plants and knows the environment for each species that will make them happy.

**★★★★★ — Becky Newman, March 2019**

> I got Audrey's name from a landscaper friend of mine who moved to LA and recommended her highly. Audrey worked with me to create a cute English garden in my small space with plants that had a lot of texture and smell (per my request). I asked if she could coach me on how to maintain the garden - how/when to trim, fertilize, etc, which has worked well! She has come back periodically to manage garden "emergencies." Audrey has been friendly, accessible and professional Her extensive experience and creative eye make her invaluable.

**★★★★★ — Diane Stember Richards, March 2019**

> Audrey is a true artist and brings her artistry to our outdoor space. She is a terrific listener and gets a good understanding of your wants and needs. Then sets out to create something utilitarian and delightful. You’ll enjoy her and your garden even more!

**★★★★★ — Naomi Fiss, March 2019**

> I hired The Foxy Garden to design and install a front house garden when we moved in to our new home. I was family with her work from a friend's house (a phenomenal backyard remodel) and from the years of work she did at a public elementary school in San Francisco. Audrey has an incredibly creative vision and had wonderful suggestions for my project. I can't wait to work with her again.

**★★★★★ — Nicole Lederman, July 2018**

> Audrey designed and supervised a gorgeous redo of my small SF garden last year. The project was intended as a gift to my terminally ill partner. Audrey worked with us to create a peaceful, tropical-feeling , super private refuge for my island obsessed wife. She did a fantastic job of choosing materials and finishes for the hardscape and walls such that the garden feels like an extension of the house remodel we completed 2 years prior. She helped us to understand what we liked about our existing garden and did a great job of keeping the few mature trees we really loved while completely reworking the rest of the plants. One of the things I most appreciated was how well she explained her choices and vision to me as an inexperienced gardener. Her knowledge of plants is extensive and as is her understanding of SF microclimates. She also has professional experience as a craftswoman. She worked closely with local artisans to create built-ins including a long modern bench and a sleeping/performance platform custom sized to fit two cellists. Audrey’s aesthetic is a delightful blend of modern and funky. She worked within our budget and timeline. A year later the garden is filled in and beautiful. She has continued to advise me on care and maintenance. I highly recommend her as a landscaper.

**★★★★★ — Gene Falk, June 2018**

> Audrey did an excellent job with the design, plant choices and follow through during the entire project. She cared and constantly sought our input. It was a pleasure working with her. I would highly recommend her for a landscape project.

**★★★★★ — Alicia Berger, June 2018**

> Would absolutely recommend Audrey! She and her team gave us some practical yet really creative options to choose from and we're excited to put our plan to use.

**★★★★★ — Rori Reber, Oct. 2017**

> After a lengthy search I hired Audrey for landscape design. Our back was a weedy mess and in need of transformation. I got exactly what I asked for: low/no maintenance, re-purpose existing plants, a larger patio. The layout and plant selection have worked out very well and we look forward to years of enjoying a peaceful garden.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Thank you kindly Rori. It was a pleasure working with you! And Brett of SF Landscapes of course.

**★★★★★ — Garrett Tillman, Nov. 2016**

> Audrey was professional, timely, and incredibly easy to work with. She transformed our space totally, and the result is better than we could have hoped for. We can't wait for the garden to continue to grow.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Thank You Garrett and Chris! The process was pleasant all around. So glad you two are pleased. I look forward seeing the garden fill in to.

**★★★★★ — Deirdre Visser, Nov. 2016**

> Audrey is a brilliant and creative designer. Her knowledge of native plants and how to use them in the various microclimates of San Francisco is unmatched. And she's able to design for the real world, for small, multi-use urban gardens that double as dog play areas, children play spaces, and wildlife habitats. I recommend her as often as I can.

**★★★★★ — Molly Harrigan, June 2016**

> We had a huge garden challenge. It was small, dark, hard to access and faced another building. Audrey worked the problems and came up with a charming, bright, lyrical garden. Audrey gave us the tools and resources to build a beautiful garden on budget and in a timely manner. The new garden is now my favorite part of my remodel.

**★★★★★ — Robert Nino, June 2016**

> Audrey was a pleasure to work with on my small backyard landscaping project. She is creative, imaginative and organized. She offers amazing design options and completes drawings when she says she will. She is prompt and efficient during scheduled onsite meetings. I love the low maintenance backyard she designed for me. On top of her professionalism, she has a charming and appealing personality. I do not hesitate in giving Audrey a Five Star recommendation.

**★★★★★ — rshawnh, Oct. 2015**

> We have worked with Audrey at the Foxy Garden on two different projects and have been delighted with the results both times. Audrey was wonderful to work with - she listened attentively to what we wanted and then created incredible plan options that took our vision to the next level. She provided plenty of detail and even sent me pictures of the plants that would work in our layout. Audrey considered all aspects of the project before we began implementation, including how much regular maintenance and water would be needed to keep the finished product beautiful in the future. She was mindful of our budget and always offered multiple solutions or options. Audrey is very creative, knowledgeable, artistic and diligent and I would definitely work with her again on future projects.

**★★★★★ — christine\_lashaw, Oct. 2015**

> Audrey and The Foxy Garden are a delight to work with! Audrey is extremely creative and excellent at problem solving. She did an incredible makeover job of our tiny backyard in Oakland that was filled with nothing but a series of sheds, turning it into an cozy haven filled with bamboo, drought tolerant plants, and a gorgeous patio using reclaimed concrete pavers and bricks. Everyone that visits raves about how beautiful and secluded it feels—and in the middle of urban Oakland! The best part was working with Audrey on selecting the plants. Clearly this is her passion and I was excited to learn from her. Choosing plants for small spaces can be tricky but I absolutely love ALL of the plants Audrey chose. I would hire Audrey again anyday......I give her my highest recommendation.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Thank you Christine! So nice to hear about your favorites parts of the process. And cheers to you and your brother for doing such a professional and gorgeous paving installation. I agree, we made a fine combo.

**★★★★★ — spongebarbier, Oct. 2015**

> I loved working with Audrey of The Foxy Garden. I wanted a drought resistant, all native California plant garden and within a specified budget. She delivered 100% on my needs and desires. My husband and I are both artists and many of our cast off creations littered our backyard. Audrey integrated them into the design of the garden in a brilliant way. Since she is an artist herself she is excellent at creating visual surprises that make an outdoor space incredibly stimulating and intriguing. She worked and communicated very well with subcontractors who also did excellent work. I would definitely love to work with The Foxy Garden again and highly recommend her company from design phase through to the finished reality. Throughout the process Audrey would send me photos of plants for me to choose from. She also educated me about the plants of my choice. Her passion for plants and landscape design made me really see and notice the outdoor landscapes around me everyday,

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Many stars for you and Homer as clients, Leigh. Yes, working for artists was great fun and allowed me to use different creative muscles. It was wonderful to collaborate with folks who wanted a space as fantastic as functional. Im consistently surprised when I get to visit your garden. You and your "casts offs" are what the rest of us consider collectable and what an experience to nearly trip on freshly added items where ever one turns.

**★★★★★ — bryant9690, Oct. 2015**

> Audrey and Foxy Garden are FANTASTIC!! I met Audrey with her dog and soon to be husband about 13 years ago. I got the opportunity to work with Audrey on the design and implementation of my garden almost 8 years ago. From the start, it was dreamy. She is so creative without being over-bearing; it's a true collaboration. She liked most of my ideas and built on them. I feel the result was better then anything either of us could have done alone. AND she's so funny! We laugh until we cry sometimes. I also get the pleasure of meeting her 2 dogs and lovely daughter. Okay, so she lives around the corner from me. But even if she didn't I would enjoy her every trip to consult or maintain. She's a gem. And I've recommended her to 2 or 3 other clients who believe her to be as special as I do.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Giant "like" for this generous review. Here's to you too around our collaboration. It continues to be very successful and great fun. Sure enough, the gardens I've designed and am lucky enough to continue to care for and guide their evolution, are my favs to be in.

**★★★★★ — Monika Khushf, Oct. 2015**

> Audrey at the Foxy Garden is amazing. We are a condo with major personality differences, each owner wanted a different sort of yard. Several professionals before her could not solve our differences. Audrey stepped in and not only gave everybody what they wanted, but created an amazing yard that gets complimented by virtually all who step into it. She was thoughtful about plantings and used mostly native plants to ensure water use would be low after the first few years. She now maintains our garden and it is lovely and thriving. I could not recommend her more highly!

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Mizzm,
> Who doesn't like to hear a past client thinks they are amazing? I surely do. Thank you! As you know I am quite proud of the elegant solution we developed especially since we had so many different opinions and requirements for the space. It was a creative puzzle that needed solving!

**★★★★★ — gitta56, Sept. 2015**

> Principal Audrey Newell is a joy to work with! She has a great eye, and helped us completely redo our garden. She selected primarily drought friendly plants (a must in San Francisco) and continues to offer ideas about how to be even more environmentally friendly. The garden looks fantastic and I am very happy with it. We receive many complements – pretty much anyone who sees it says it looks stunning.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Thank you GItta, for your wonderful review. I always enjoy designing for families and take it on as a personal challenge to lure our urban kids outside. And you know I take the garden pest challenge, unfortunately increasing with the drought, seriously as well. On more than one occasion, I have laid in bed late at night plotting the demise of the thrip population in your garden! Thanks again!

**★★★★★ — Kellie Menendez, Sept. 2015**

> Audrey is great! Creative, knowledgeable and fun. She will work with you to create something unique and lasting. She has done two projects for us and continues to do the on-going maintenance to keep the garden fresh and lively. She cares about soil health, plant growth and is also knowledgable about water systems and the latest in drought irrigation technology.

**Comment from The Foxy Garden:**

> Thank you Kellie! I love to hear my clients being aware of the importance of soil health and other sustainability issues in their gardens. I appreciate it even more when I get a client, like your, who wants to learn more about it. Ive also enjoyed working with you who have brought your own design sophistication to the table, and think the pieces we worked hard on solving together to be some of the most interesting.

  - Description: Terraced back garden in Pac Heights. Cantilevered bench was constructed with Thermory, a treated wood product. Thermory was suggested to us as a material that would be the most stable which we needed for such a long bench ( 25' one the long side). Bluestone steps are intersected by bench which functions as a step. Softset Bluestone Select Patio. Integrally tinted stucco walls.

  - Description: Part 3 of a multi leveled garden for a family with unique and colorful taste. The son's room opens onto a blazing hot windy deck that was so exposed it was unusable and well, yucky. (See before picture.) We added saturated color to walls and raised beds, painted a graphic jungle themed mural (courtesy of me), and planted with a drought tolerant jungle palette. We also mixed in berries, a passion vine and a few other treats per the son's request. Such fun to see this come alive; even better to he…

  - Description: This very large corner site was shrouded in tired and thirsty conventional lawn. Really a bland, uninteresting monoculture—impossible to maintain especially in light of our dwindling resources and our growing understanding about sustainable practices. We chose to approach this project not with the idea that existing lawn is bad, but with respect for what lawn has historically represented: a socially connective tissue. Instead of conventional grass requiring endlessly large amounts of water, chem…

  - Description: This San Francisco garden in the Richmond District underwent a total makeover. Along with adding a staircase connecting the main living area on the second floor to the garden, we made space for intimate lounging, a bluestone patio for group dining and entertaining, growing edibles, and added a large tree fort for the kids in the mature Redwood tree. Eight years later, with the former tree fort inhabitants in college, we are gearing up build a stylish lounge structure under the redwood using recl…

  - Description: This small urban garden flows off an architectural office below the clients home. It serves as the employee lunch room by day, a view from above in the evenings, and a dog run at any time. Our challenge was to create a handsome, welcoming, and functional garden to be enjoyed by humans while accommodating two LARGE dogs in a typically small urban site. We opted to informally fence the humans in, so to speak, instead of the dogs. (They are employees after all.) The dogs have a small gravel run whi…

  - Description: This large back yard, protected from the noise and traffic of Valencia street, was a safe place for the two young boys to play...until we discovered extremely high led content in the existing planting beds. Instead of removing more concrete to expand planting beds and inadvertently exposing more led, we chose instead to build beds atop the concrete. The boys could then safely dig to their heart's desire in the clean gravel of new raised beds. Once they out grew them, the beds would convert to pl…

  - Description: This large and private city garden is nestled behind a handsome Edwardian, protected from Dolores Street and adjacent buildings. It is owned by four parties with as many garden activities and varied styles. Creating distinct outdoor rooms was never more important! Curved and meandering pathways were designed to (re)direct views. Down one path you become immersed in a lush explosion of foliage and flowers and charmingly repurposed brick and boulders. In another direction, peace reigns amidst well…

  - Description: This large corner lot in San Bruno, California with compacted dead soil was a dramatic renovation not just to the property, but to the neighborhood. Most commonly, you see tired conventional turf, concrete expanses of "front yard" and beds of "decorative" gravel spread over sheets of plastic. We shook things up a little bit and provided a low maintenance, drought tolerant, pollinator friendly native garden. The client grew up in this house so wanted it to be something special--to give something…

  - Description: This large eclectic Mission District garden is filled with color, texture, drought tolerant planting and well, gnomes. The owner wanted not-too-serious, fun to be in, great to look down on and ever changing, as gardens are. We embraced nature's imperfections, surprises and settled into a comfortably lived-in balance between the planned and unplanned.
