### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Joy Fogg-Reynolds, June 2021**

> We loved working with Steve on a major renovation of our house! He has a collaborative work style that made the process easy for us. He expertly guides the design process and is very good at explaining concepts in simple terms. Not only is he creative, but he also has a deep knowledge of construction making him a good problem solver. He is also an excellent listener interpreting our discussions resulting in innovative changes that exactly expressed how we wanted to live in the house. He often knew before we wanted before we did!
>
> Steve stays current with new products and building concepts and is interested in learning something new from his clients. He takes energy efficiency to the next level. He is extremely good at envisioning how different design elements will work with one another so that the final effect is harmonious. His attention to detail ensures the finished design is both pleasing to look at and a pleasure to live in.
>
> When we started to discuss the renovations with Steve, we were unsure what an architect would add. But after the first couple of meetings, it was clear what value Steve brings to the table. We would give Steve a ‘10’ and would certainly work with him again.
> If this review seems long, it is because Steve brings so many talents to a project.

> While we don't doubt his abilities, he may be too busy/taking on too much to provide adequate consultation. He continued to be delayed in providing drawings, often felt like he had just completed them right before getting onto a call and even then had missed key elements that were requirements. He provided one option for the spaces and then mentioned 'scope creep' when we asked for other options to consider which left us feeling frustrated and shorted in this process. We would not recommend.

**★★★★★ — Goodwin Luxury Homes, Dec. 2019**

> Steve is the industry leader in residential architecture with detail that rivals commercial builds the are in the 100's of million dollars. His understanding of building science is unrivaled in a practicing Architect. He understands the physics and physical impacts of the systems in your home hence allowing him to design a comfortable, healthy, performing home. Should you find yourself trying to choose Steve or another Architect to do your home, you should consider yourself lucky, and choose Steve!

**★★★★★ — Paul and Donna St. Martin, Feb. 2019**

> Steve was the architect of our project; a full house renovation from razing a small ranch into constructing a wonderful multi-generational home. This was unlike anything we had ever done before and found that there was lots to learn - We put our faith in Steve’s competence and professionalism and were not disappointed in the least. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have found Steve and that he was available at the time. We met within a week of our first contact; Steve teamed seamlessly with our builder who he had partnered with previously. They were all of these things: efficient, responsive, excellent communicators, always professional and trustworthy.
>
> Initially, Steve asked us to develop a “narrative” describing how we live and what is important to us. We designed, planned and worked together for nearly a year before construction began and we could not be happier with the end result. As a multi-generational home, Steve interacted with each family member to make sure that all expectations and desires were met. He created an open environment that also allows for personal retreats in a fairly small envelope.
>
> There are endless spaces and details that we love throughout the house. Windows everywhere that provide light and views to nature; the master suite with bath, walk-in closet, office and computer nook is the perfect “get away” from the main house; the “chill room” with window seat and built-in bookcases that house our “library”, family photos, and special artwork. We have lived here for 6 months and could not be happier, every day we comment on one aspect or another that we enjoy.
>
> Steve was great to work with; throughout the entire process, he remained open-minded and honest in regards to our ideas while providing his expert guidance and suggestions. We would highly recommend him!

**★★★★★ — Jay Rao, Feb. 2019**

> Steve is awesome! He is the go-to-guy for passive houses! He really understood our needs and tastes. Provided us with a bunch of alternatives. Was always responsive and ready to accommodate our many quirks. He was also blunt when he knew that some of our ideas would not make sense. We constantly relied on his expertise to guide us. He has a great relationship with his contractor. Together, they made a great team. The house is very well built & solid. Will last 100+ years. Most importantly, he is a great guy -- very friendly, always happy and kidding around. WE LOVE OUR HOUSE! THANKS STEVE!

**★★★★★ — Laura Moresco, Nov. 2018**

> We had a great experience working with Steve and are so grateful that he designed our wonderful kitchen and family room! During our initial meetings, Steve listened closely to our hopes for a new space and came up with a design that was thoughtful, modern, and met ALL our needs including our budget requirements. Steve's plans were very detailed and he met with us numerous times to review the new spaces and patiently answer our many questions. One of my favorite things about working with Steve was that there wasn't a problem he couldn't solve. We have an old house and he made us feel comfortable and confident undertaking a large renovation project. Now that our project is complete, we feel so incredibly grateful to be able to use our new spaces and we frequently receive compliments about the layout and design. All of this credit goes to Steve for his excellent work - we would work with Steve again in a heartbeat.

**★★★★★ — Lynn Moolic, Oct. 2018**

> When we set out to build our retirement home, we interviewed six different architects. Hiring Steve was the best decision we could have made. Not only is Steve incredibly knowledgeable in all aspects of architecture, construction, and energy efficiency, he is on the leading edge. This was evident at our first meeting, but what may not be so obvious is his artistry and design sense. We had a unique vision for our home. He listened to our needs and provided us with multiple options to choose from. There is not a day that goes by that people are not stopping in front of our house to just sit and stare. Get him while you can. He is one in a million…generous, patient, creative, trustworthy, and committed to his clients.

**★★★★★ — Michele Malley, Sept. 2018**

> Steve was highly recommended to us by several people. (We renovated our kitchen and dining room.) He did a great job incorporating our wishes into his drawings, and he presented us with several designs/options. Without a doubt, Steve made the process incredibly smooth. We were grateful!

**★★★★★ — Brian McMullin, June 2018**

> We worked with Steve on a whole house renovation that took ~90% of our house down to the studs, added a 400 sq ft master bedroom, completely reconfigured our 2nd floor, finished our basement, converted a 400 sq ft 3 season room into a centerpiece family room, and gave us the dream kitchen we've always wanted. We're incredibly happy with the result, which retained the original colonial exterior of the house, with a modern/contemporary atmosphere we desired inside. Steve worked with us for over a year on the designs and educated us while iterating through all the important decisions.
>
> His insight and vision for the end result was spot on. But what really made our experience with Steve stand out was that how involved he was with the project even after he delivered the designs and plans. He was always accessible when we needed quick decisions on materials or changes and was onsite very frequently, ensuring the project was done the way he had intended. We can't recommend Steve Baczek and his services enough.

**★★★★★ — KATHRYN BRETT, May 2018**

> We worked with Steve on an addition for our colonial house built in the 1920s. The house in its original state did not lend itself to modern standard of living especially with our growing family. We also abutted wetlands, which provides its own set of challenges to ensure we do not exceed the limits put forth by the Conservation Commission. We added a brand new kitchen/great room, a mudroom, two bathrooms and a master bedroom. Steve was able to create a design and layout that met all of our needs and we are absolutely thrilled with the way the project turned out. He was very precise, thorough, and patient with us as we had several questions and demands to ensure we took this opportunity to make it our dream house. Steve is a very knowledgeable architect who did a great job making the new part of the house flow nicely with the old part. His drawings were so detailed that our builder had very little questions about the design, which made our project run very smoothly. I would highly recommend Steve as I already have to friends and family that are looking to a project of their own.

**★★★★★ — Leslie & Chris Soria, April 2018**

> My husband and I contacted Steve Baczek after seeing his design work in our neighbors home. Our project consisted of adding a large 2 story addition onto our unique 100 year old Craftsman home. Our goal was that the addition add to the flow of our home and look like it had always been a part of the original house.
>
> We met with other architects but Steve stood out as the designer who appreciated the character of our home and was confident that he could meet our goals for the project. We are thrilled with the end result! Steve met with us on multiple occasions and he listened to us. In addition, he gave us suggestions that have made our new space highly livable and enjoyable. The flow of our home makes sense for entertaining and just spending time as a family. In addition, the exterior compliments the original structure and blends in beautifully.

**★★★★★ — Corinna Tavano, Feb. 2018**

> My husband and I were referred to Steve by my brother-in-law who knew Steve personally and spoke very highly of him. Upon first meeting Steve, and after having interviewed and met with three other architects, we knew we had found our guy. Our project consisted of taking an unfinished basement and finishing it with a full bath, kitchenette, toy storage closet, a tv area and a game area...not to mention keeping our walking-in storage area. He delivered and more! The space far exceeded our expectations. There were two particular design decisions I was very hesitant to make. I went back and forth trying to make a decision and in the end I went with Steve's recommendations. That was when he won my trust! I can honestly say, those two decisions ultimately defined the space. He is a quality guy who does quality work. I can't hope or ask for more than that!

## Community Q&A

**Q: wood used for island** *(in Photo Questions)*

is that bamboo?

A: Sorry, it is not bamboo being used on the island. It is however bamboo on he floor. he island is reclaimed 2X6 rafters from the roof we dismantled. I believe they are spruce/pine. They were milled probably about 100 years ago from virgin trees so the wood was very dense.

**Q: So beautifuL! Would you mind sharing tile size? 3 x 12 or 4 x 16?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Thank You, they are 3x12 in size.

**Q: Can you clarify the shingle, iceberg or seacoast, both were said:-)** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: seacoast was the color

**Q: Complete Basement Renovation!** *(in Before & After)*

Our client asked for the works and that's what they received! This renovation included a kitchen, sauna, gym, movie theatre and more! Head over to our page to see more photos.

A: Job very well done!!

**Q: Window brand?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What brand of windows were used in this project?

A: The windows for that project were "Schuco" Thermally broken, triple glazed, Aluminum frame windows sourced thru Yaro Windows in Sommerville MA. They have an R-Value of about R-8.

**Q: Colors** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you tell me the two colors of siding used here??

A: The upper lighter part is a Maibec shingle prefinished in "Iceberg" and the lower lap siding is a James Hardie cement board prefinished in "Boothbay Blue"
