> For several years, we contemplated renovations to the second floor of our home but it seemed complicated and resulted us debating the merits of moving versus renovating. Fortunately, we were introduced to Anne-Marie and Boxwood Architects. Through a thorough understanding of our needs, Anne-Marie creating a vision for the space, detailed design and architectural drawings and worked with the contractor to see our second floor transformed. We absolute love the space and the debate to move vs renovate is over!

> We hired Boxwood Architects to redesign our 1928 old victorian house. The design development process with Anne-Marie and her team was an excellent experience. Anne-Marie took the time to really listen to our needs and was sensitive to our budget and came up with creative ways to incorporate everything we needed. It just goes to show how amazing she is at what she does! We are very excited to be back in our house and LOVE the layout and space we have. It was hard to imagine when seeing it on paper, but in reality it is just what we needed for our active family of 5. I would highly recommend Boxwood Architects for anyone looking to build a new home or renovate their existing home.

> Boxwood Architects far exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend Anne-Marie and her team to anyone. Their designs for our extensive home renovation/addition were innovative without being impractical for our life with small children. Overall, Boxwood far exceeded our expectations. We are truly delighted with the results and continually receive compliments from guests. Anne-Marie is a conscientious and thoughtful professional with wonderful vision who listens to her clients' needs and desires, and turns those into reality. From our various design planning meetings to her site visits and her interactions with our builder, we felt that Anne-Marie and her team always had our best-interest at heart. They were a pleasure to work with from start to completion.

> Boxwood Architects came highly recommended to us in our search for an experienced Toronto-based architectural firm to act as local architect-of-record on a residential project. We were immediately and highly impressed with the experience and expertise Anne-Marie would bring to the project and very comfortable with her working style, design sensibilities and project management skills.

> Anne-Marie and her team have proven to be a pleasure to work with. They understood and respected our vision, engaged in a constructive exchange of ideas, provided excellent technical and design input and diligently managed the project. Moreover, they were incredibly patient with us as we changed our minds several times throughout the design phase!
>
> We look forward to continuing to work with Boxwood as we enter the next phase of the project and take it to completion!

> Boxwood Architects is acting as local architect-of-record for a house I designed. A registered architect in NYC, I am working closely with Anne-Marie and her team in the development of the project and am impressed with her knowledge and experience.
> Anne-Marie is very professional, thoughtful, and has greatly facilitated the collaborative process. Anne-Marie is technically astute in every aspect of residential design and I have enjoyed working together with Boxwood Architects!

> We hired Upside Development to completely re-do our 100 year old semi-detached home in East Toronto. Their architect firm they use is BOXWOOD ARCHITECTS who designed a home for us unlike anything we could have ever dreamed of. BOXWOOD took a traditional Victorian semi and created a gorgeous, light filled modern house. We now have an open concept first floor with a huge walk out deck and bigger bedrooms including our new third floor master bedroom and ensuite. BOXWOOD went above our expectations and we felt throughout the process that they were as invested in the project as we were.

> We recently embarked on building a new home and our builder engaged Boxwood Architects for the architectural design. We weren’t familiar with Boxwood at that time, but now that we are nearing the end of our project, we are very pleased with our builder’s choice of architect. We started by providing a ‘wish list’ of features, which we reviewed in our initial discussions, and as much as practical, these were incorporated. Throughout the design process, Anne-Marie and her team focused on the quality and fit of the final product. They were not fixed on using their own ideas, but gave thoughtful consideration and equal energy to developing ideas that we or our builder proposed.
>
> Anne-Marie and the Boxwood team have three very important qualities – good listening skills, creativity, and the courage of their convictions. For the overall design of the house, we initially asked for a somewhat traditional style, and Anne-Marie did some renderings of a lovely design to show us what these would look like within the constraints of our local zoning by-laws. At the same time, she showed us a more contemporary and very unique alternative. We initially dismissed this option as we were more comfortable with the traditional, but each time we reviewed a further iteration of the original, she quietly drew our attention to the other design. Gradually, we came to see the beauty and character of the second option, and chose that one. Every day our appreciation grows as it takes shape. It would have been very easy for Anne-Marie to give us what we asked for, and we would have been happy. But, she went a step further and helped us realize what we really wanted, and we are thrilled. We wholeheartedly recommend Anne-Marie and Boxwood Architects to design your home.

## Community Q&A

**Q: do doors/windows at end open?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Truly one of my favorite indoor pool rooms. Exquisite!

A: Hello and thank you for the question \[and for the kind words!\].
We studied a few options that would have provided large pivoting openings to a possible south-facing outdoor terrace. However, a few concerns weighed in on the decision to not have doors to the garden directly from the pool. The first concern was safety because the children were young and we wanted to keep access to the pool to a single door so that it was easier to monitor. The other concern had to do with the mechanical system that would have become more complicated if natural ventilation became a variable.
I hope this helps.

**Q: Love the white sofa! would you share the source please?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would you share the source for the white sectional please?

A: Hi!
In the photo is a Flexform sectional sofa from Italinteriors in Toronto.

**Q: where did you get the rug?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hello!
The area rug in the living room is from Elte in Toronto 416 785 7885.

**Q: Cost of pool addition?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Wondering how much it would cost to build this indoor pool addition onto an existing home?

A: Hi and thanks for the question.
The only way to get a useful number is to contact a local contractor or 2 to give you pricing. The cost will vary quite a bit depending on where you are, the size of the pool and whatever else is within that structure \[bathroom, sauna\] and what materials you use.
Regards,
BOXWOOD ARCHITECTS

**Q: What is the material on the pool deck, and is it skid proof** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hello,
The stone used around the pool was a 3/4" thick custom bush-hammered basalt. The stone was purchased from Stone-tile International in Toronto. This treatment did ensure a non-slip surface but there are many off-the-shelf products that are sufficiently 'skid proof'.

**Q: Wall color** *(in Photo Questions)*

The wall color is an amazing cream. Really accents the rest of the space. Could you tell me the color?

A: Hello and thank you for the question.
The wall colour is called 'Simply White' 2143-70, by Benjamin Moore.
