**Q: Herringbone backsplash** *(in Design Dilemma)*

PLEASE help me figure out what size tile to use for my herringbone backsplash! I’ve been pondering on this for months and I’m sick of looking at drywall 😆 help! I am stuck between 2x8, 3x9 (pictured below) and I ordered a 2x10. I’m unsure if the 2x8 will be too busy with my countertops. I plan to tile the entire wall surrounding window. Thoughts? I plan to do a light gray grout.

A: 3x9 or 2x10 on a herringbone pattern will look beautiful with black grout it is better than the mosaic sheets your fine no need to over panic

My husband and I are building a new "main" bathroom. It will primarily be for our 2 tween daughters. My husband is a DIY guy and very capable of doing the work himself. I really want a more modern boho or scandinavian vibe in the space. So I want an alcove tub/shower combo with fun tile on the walls. My hubby wants an a 1-piece alcove unit. I think they look cheap and boring although easy clean. He thinks easier than tiling. Is there a way to create the vibe I want with installing what he wants?

A: not really, 

the alterative i would do is 12x24 tile it is something easy to clean cheap and looks modern and clean instead of doing a one alcove unit

**Q: 3O sq ft bathroom advice** *(in Remodeling)*

So I have a 5' by 6' bathroom downstairs (there is another bathroom above it which will be the main bath, and they will be sharing a plumber's wall). This bathroom will probably be mostly used by guests and ourselves as it's not too far from the kitchen and living room areas. We are keeping the small toilet and tub. The old vanity was an 18" vanity with cabinet. I believe a 24" pedestal sink would be able to fit in the bathroom, but then we give up some storage space.  We also have the option of swapping the order of the toilet and sink (though I'm still undecided, all the plumbing is going). We also have the option of moving the doorway a few inches to the side, so that we can have the door open into the bathroom (I want to do this as this door is across from the basement door and both open into the hallway creating a traffic jam). The window is being replaced for a picture with an awning window on top (same size that glassblocks take up). There is also a heat vent on the wall where the trashcan is. I'm trying to go for a timeless look, but I don't mind doing a bit more modern for the bathroom.
\* Would it be better to put in an 18" in wide cabinet vanity or 24" pedestal? Floating vanities are a bit out of my budget.
\* I'm thinking of putting in white offset subway tiles 4x8. Not sure if they should go all the way up to the ceiling or not. Thoughts on this or recommended designs to make the bathroom look bigger?
\* I want to put down hex tiles on the floor to make it a bit fun. I'm leaning toward a marbled grey look. Not sure if they should be the small size or if I should put in 6" or 8" potentially for ease of cleaning. I don't want to make the mistake of the wrong tile and making the bathroom look even smaller. Thoughts?

A: I Would recommend to do the 4x8 subway tile or do a 4x12 subway tile it would look amazing with the 8'' hex tiles on the floor

**Q: I'm in love again! My 2020 reveal!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My kitchen is pretty much done! I knew the holidays would get in the way of posting a reveal so decided to go ahead (waiting for kitchen dining chairs).
We had been considering updating our 23-year old kitchen for the past couple of years; in late 2019, we decided to pull the trigger. My first post here on Houzz was 12/30 and it has been an interesting 11 months. Doing a major renovation during a pandemic had its challenges.
So many people on Houzz gave me wonderful advice and were so generous with their time. Their input helped shape the end result.

GOAL \#1 -LIGHTEN THE LOOK The first thing I wanted to improve was the dark look - everything was the same tone and it was just so dark. We considered painting the cabinets; they were in great shape and solid raised panel cherry. But I wanted more drawers and a less traditional look. We thought about refacing and re-configuring cabinets to drawers for better functionality but that was just as expensive as new cabinetry. And it would not solve the next problem - floor plan.
GOAL \#2 - IMPROVE FLOOR PLAN There were layout issues - my cooktop, under - counter wall oven and fridge were bunched together on one short wall; I had a prep sink in the island right across from the main sink (I honestly don’t know whose decision that was 23 years ago!); the large microwave took up counter space I often used when entertaining and the desk was never used. There was also a support post that was, well, just there!
After a lot of discussion, we decided to start fresh and I convinced the husband that a white kitchen was a great solution to the dark. We kept the Brazilian cherry floors though sanded them down and stained them a rich walnut color. (I got a lot of info on how to go about that here on Houzz.)  We are thrilled with the results - no more orange/red flooring. We had the new island stained to match the new floor color. So my husband’s desire for wood has been met with the flooring and island.
We repurposed all of our cabinets and appliances to our daughter and son-in-law. They are thrilled with their “new” kitchen and we can go visit our “old” kitchen any time. Win-win!
GOAL \#3 - Design a space that flowed well with the surrounding areas - dining space, sunroom and family room. We didn’t intent to touch those areas but as you know, one thing leads to another. Since we plan to be in this home for the next 10 -15 years, we decided to renovate those areas as well.
Ok, here are some of the results! Again, thanks to all that offered ideas, advice and answered endless questions. I will post details in subsequent comments.
