**★★★★★ — William Green, April 2021**

> Jay Baker of Top Tier Tile is the best. We contacted Jay about putting up a fireplace surround from the floor to the top of a seventeen foot vaulted ceiling. He came and looked at the layout. Less than a week later he was done. He had to take a day off because he worked around my schedule and even then the job was done in less than a week. The quality is unsurpassed. Jay showed particular attention to detail and communication. The job could not have gone more smoothly. He showed up when he said he would, did the job and at the end he cleaned the jobsite quite nicely. Please see the before and after pictures below

> I could not be more pleased with his integrity, professionalism, personality and work ethic. I will definitely use Jay for any future tile or stone work. You should too.

> Jay does an amazing job in a timely and professional manner. He was responsive and tactful throughout the entire process at reasonable pricing. We had Jay install mosaic glass tile backsplashes in our kitchen and two bathrooms. He also fixed floor tiles and grout lines that were not installed properly by a different contractor. It was obvious that Jay takes pride in his work and I would recommend using Jay and Top Tier Tile to anybody looking for any sort of tile work, hands down.

**★★★★★ — Jeff Joler, April 2019**

> Jay is very professional, keeps his word as to when he will call me back for scheduling, shows up on time, pays attention to detail, has good layout ideas, and does excellent work and price was very competitive. I couldn't have received a better backsplash tile job.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Beautiful shower** *(in Before & After)*

Huge schulter shower with two niches and custom seat

A: B E A utiful! Great Work!

**Q: Your 2 cents please: Floor Tile work** *(in Plumbing)*

The wall tile is slimmer than floor tile. How can we better line up them up? Also, the cement board has slim gaps here and there (pic 3 - edge under back of vanity). Do you foresee a leakage risk? All comments welcome.

A: Make sure they thin-set underneath the 1/4" underlayment (concrete board). It says to use seam tape but all in all those little gaps won't matter as long as the above is done. As far as leakage goes, no problems (that is, if I'm picking up what your laying down in your comment)! The length of the room gets the length of the tile as far as layout goes.

**Q: I'm pretty sure I have the ugliest kitchen ever. Help?!?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm lost. I had a fire in my house and remodeled with the insurance money... i've gone through too many colors in the kitchen and now am seeking some outside help. i'm not afraid of loud colors but whatever we have going on right now isn't working.

the original plan was burnt orange walls with light cream cabinets with a dark brown wash (or whatever its called when you add a top color then wipe it off). This looked ok but the cabinets just looked dirty.

from there we went to what we have now... a slightly offwhite/cream walls with blue cabinets. We went off a pinterest photo for the cabinets and, well, it looked better in the photo. again we went with a dark wash and it looks better but the blue is bad.

My issue i think is the espresso brown counter tops. I love them but they seem limiting in my color choices. I also have greenish slate floor tiles that have a good range of earth-tone colors in them. I also have an (amazing) African mahogany farmhouse style sink.

any suggestions for colors? bonus points for actual color names. I think my best option is a natural wood (bamboo or similiar) light colored cabinets but thats way out of my price range right now. I'm open to painting everything one more time.

A: Blue needs to go, unless you're into it! Go with a color that matches, close to the trim around that door I see. Maybe a white to dark grey color. Just make sure you like it, thats all that matters really!

**Q: Fridge Doors will not open next to door.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My kitchen designer is an idiot. I originally brought her the plan that had the pantry next to the wall. She told me it was a bad design and that i should move the fridge next to the wall for better esthetics. I told her my concern was that with the fridge pushed in all the way that the door would not open properly. She measured and said no it was fine. So because she is suppose to be the expert i allowed her to change my mind and to swap the pantry and the fridge. Well.... appliances just got delivered.... and bingo.... right door of fridge cannot open when pushed back beyond the wall. I have 2 options: 1) keep the fridge pulled out which is then visible from the door -photo below
or 2) get a refridgerator panel and new crown moulding and have the contractor move the cabinets around.... which could ultimately also effect the electrical and plumbing.

i'm not sure what upsets me more that i didnt listen to my own intuition or that she has consistently tried to blame me. We stood in the kitchen the night she wanted the check-measuring and looking online at the appliances that would go into the space-all of which she claims no recollection. We went over budget on this kitchen already going with the upgraded Omega Dynasty cabinets and it infuriates me that this owner of the company clearly does not truly have an idea what she is doing. This was HER DESIGN-- MINE HAD IT OPPOSITE.... but because she has our signature on the layout she claims she has no part of it. She even wanted to blame the installation when it is not an installation issue but a design flaw.

A: Go back on your kitchen designer depending on what contracts that were signed. They should respect that.

**Q: I don't like my new kitchen floors and the transition to family room** *(in Flooring)*

I don't know what to do. They just put the flooring down for my kitchen and the actual flooring I like but it looks AWFUL transitioning to family room We broke down the transition (knee wall) between the kitchen and family room and I trusted the lady to tell me if it wouldn't look right. I knew it would look like two different floors but I didn't think it would look this stark and bad. Is there any way I can smooth out the transition without changing the whole floor or turning my whole second floor into this vinyl flooring? I am so incredibly upset. Thank you. Btw, I told the Home depot designer from the beginning that I did not have an "eye" for this stuff.

A: To be honest I would have kept the floors all the same or used a different type of flooring to transitions with. With an open floor plan, like your picture, the home depot designer should be fired or brought back to fix that problem you're having.

**Q: Flooring colors** *(in Flooring)*

I need to put in new flooring in my living areas. I don't want to paint cupboards so am wanting ideas and floor colors that blend with these cupboards and appliances and look modern. I really like the tile that looks like wood.

A: I would go with a darker wood look tile, not too dark but something that will bring out the kitchen cabinets etc. An 8"x24" wood look tile, would look great in that area. Do you have any ideas as to what you think you want?
