I was impressed with the fact that he only replaced the old units that needed to be replaced and made the adjustments in the connections, new units , cables that were necessary to exactly meet my needs/requirements...not trying to just sell new replacement units. It's the most used room in the house and we're going from a big rectangle family room to the one in the picture attached. I don't like the built-ins and wanted to move the TV to the wall with picture of the dancing animals. But we need to be able to fit a couch and a loveseat in the space, and they both wouldn't fit if we did that. So I'm thinking we might have no choice but to leave the TV above the fireplace. I'm looking for any advice on what to do with the built-ins - I don't like them but if the TV stays there we'll need to keep at least the cabinets for the cable box, DVD player etc. I don't like the mantel - wanted to do a stone surround with a reclaimed wood mantel, but now that we may have to keep the built-ins I don't know how that'll look. The picture is of the current owners' stuff (we get possession in a few months). Our style is more beachy/rustic. I want whitewashed walls and wood accents - nice and clean. I would appreciate any and all advice. I'm also attaching a picture of the kitchen so you know why I'm unable to place a big piece of furniture right in front of the fireplace. Room dimensions are supposedly 10 x 16 feet but not sure that's accurate. Ceiling height is 16 ft. A: If you remove the mantle and refinish the fireplace surround, you will have just enough space above the new mantle to mount the TV. Keep the lower built in cabinets and possibly change color or texture to blend in with stone surround. I would also recommend an RF remote to control the equipment if you're not using one currently. This will allow you to keep the doors closed and control the entire system. **Q: Need a place to hide TV accesories** *(in Design Dilemma)* My husband has a HUGE TV and is willing to hang it on a wall. If we do that we need a space to put speakers, ex-box, etc, but he wants the air flow to be good. How can you do this and hide the TV stuff? Please share A: Run an HDMI cable to the TV and place the equipment somewhere else in the room. Using an AV Receiver, connect all your cable box, DVD, AppleTV sources there and your TV installation stays clean and neat.
