> Brian and the crew are great to work with! They are friendly and communicative. Brian guided us in the planning but kept our original ideas. The crew worked hard and were respectful of our neighbors, and did beautiful work! We love our new backyard :)

> I've used Bear Creek for a few different projects now. They've helped me significantly on several occasions now. I love the fact that they keep their jobsites clean and that I always know what the next step is. I feel like a lot of contractors really leave you guessing, where these folks are transparent and helpful throughout. I would recommend them without hesitation.

**★★★★★ — Jim Moore, Dec. 2018**

> Bear Creek recently renovated our deck and the process from initial visit to completion was professionally executed the entire way. Brian was very helpful and accommodating in helping us decide what materials and colors to use. His team was prompt, courteous and diligent. After the recent ice storm I was quite surprised to see them out there first thing in the morning after the storm, with trees and limbs down everywhere. Brian even showed up with breakfast sandwiches and coffee for not only his crew, but us as well! All in all I would highly recommend Bear Creek. They finished exactly on budget and in less time than forecast and the finished deck was perfect.

**★★★★★ — Shawn Scott, Dec. 2018**

> The team at Bear Creek helped us out on a back yard project that I originally attempted to get installed by Lowes. Was a great experience working with these great people at Bear Creek and must say I will never attempt to have Lowes do anything at my house again and will always call Brian at Bear Creek! We also had them do some additional work around our house and did an awesome job.

> Brian and his crew tore down our old deck and installed a new composite deck. We love it. They did a great job. Brian was a joy to work with before the construction to pick colors and materials. I highly recommend Bear Creek!

**★★★★★ — Tammy Tackett, June 2018**

> Bear Creek is owned and operated by Brian. I have gotten to know Brian in a professional and business setting. He is very knowledgeable in his craft and his clients are very important to him.

**★★★★★ — Shannon Sankar, June 2018**

> Brian has helped me, in multiple situations, with out-of-the box, creative thinking that he brings to each and every job on his to-do list. He is organized, detail-oriented - and a bit of a perfectionist, which are traits that are sure to please discerning homeowners.

**★★★★★ — Larry Howard, Dec. 2017**

> Brian converted a screened porch on the south side of our house to a sun room in 2003. The project included a bookshelf and cabinet unit custom built to fit a space formerly used as a doorway to the attached garage. Fourteen years later the room looks and functions almost like new. We kept up with Brian for several years after the project, are delighted that he has moved back to our area, and are privileged to recommend him to others for similar projects.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Removing the little triangles in the roofline** *(in Design Dilemma)*

so the overall plan is to recolor, add a stone veneer thing to the garage, spiff up the porch and flatten out those little roof triangle things. Who exactly do i contact for that job or what is the search term for those little triangle dealies? It's not really a full roofline change, it has zero effect on ceilings and the rest of the house, and as far as i can tell are completely decorative. Having a hard time knowing what a good quote would be.

any other suggestions on how to modern up the front a bit would be nice too, but should be a good start.... (i dont know how to recolor well... so just ignore that)

A: Most remodeling/home improvement contractors should be able to handle the roof modifications for you. I agree with those that spoke above... Not sure if the suggested changes are the right fix. Make sure you get a good design professional to help with the concept before you start spending lots of money on changes. The design effort will be money well spent.

**Q: {sunroom} help? what would you do with all of paneling??** *(in Design Dilemma)*

A: Sunrooms should feel light and bright. Painting the paneling in white or a light color that you like and is fun will help the room not feel like a cave.

**Q: Deck Helmet Extreme Deck Makeover with Veranda Composite Decking** *(in Before & After)*

In this Deck Helmet Extreme Deck Makeover project we used Veranda composite decking on all horizontal surfaces and applied black composite coating for all vertical surfaces on the deck. What an amazing difference in Before&After photos!

A: This looks great. Can you tell me a little bit more about the “black composite” product that you used on the the railings, etc?

**Q: Half-Round or K-Style gutters for this home?** *(in Building a Home)*

I will be working with a company that can provide us with seamless half-round or k-style gutters in aluminum in the color of our choosing. Which style do you think would enhance the elevation and what color do you think would most compliment our current choices? The roof is black... Siding is Sable Brown and Natural Clay... Trim is Sand Stone beige (door will also be his color). Thanks!

A: Sorry about the multiple posts... my app was not loading and timing out so I didn’t think it went through LOL

**Q: Front Porch Design Dilemma... Need Help!!** *(in Building a Home)*

Our house is almost around finishing. I recently noticed the beam at the front porch was left unattended. I contacted our builder he said he will pain it white to match the soffit and other exterior trim.
I was hoping to have all brick wrap at the front but the builder is saying he cannot do brick at beams as bricks require a foundation support (called a “brick ledge” ) . Unfortunately it isn’t possible!!
Any thoughts? Do you agree with my builder.
I am so confused right now and keep thinking how it will look with the paint.
PS: The house has bricks only at front

Another picture to show that beams are on 3 sides:

A: Based on the photo you shared of the porch under construction, it looks like the beams were wrapped with fiber cement boards before the brick was finished. That is a common way to finish a beam. Brick could be installed with a steel lentil, but I can't say that I have seen that in a situation like this before. Generally the beam is painted the same color as the soffit, but you could do something different if you prefer. Mark is correct that you should check the construction documents to see if this was built according to the plans.

**Q: Back the front house......** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi there,
Our 30 year old house is now back-the-front (after subdividing) and we now have to make the back of the house look like the front ...... The double window on the right is currently a storeroom which will become the entrance - but I'm just not sure how to make that look inviting so people won't park right out the front of the door....... all the pipes, gas cylinders and hot water system (and green bucket!) etc will all be moved. We're on an acre block and the grey cement is the driveway from the top of the street. Any pictures/comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated - particularly pictures as I'm definitely a visual person! Thanks in advance!!

A: Do you have a picture that shows the whole house? It is hard to get perspective on the house while seeing only one corner.
