**★★★★★ — J Thomas Design Co., March 2018**

> The team at JDC Remodeling tackled all the issues that came up in the updating and modernizing of my 1880's Italianate townhome. The project involved roofing, windows, AC, plumbing, electrical, drywall, tile, and floor refinishing, as well as interior and exterior renovations. Overall, the outcome is exactly as I envisioned and the quality is excellent! I would definitely recommend JDC Remodeling for your home project.

**Comment from JDC Remodeling, LLC:**

> We would, once again, like to thank you for the wonderful job you and your crew did on our new deck and sunroom. With your expertise and insight, our thought of a "screened in porch" turned out to be a "room addition" that more than exceeded our wildest dream!
>
> The quality of the workmanshp was more than professional, the attention to detail was outstanding, and the entire crew could not have been more professional, courteous, and friendly. They were always diligent about cleaning up after each day/phase of the job.
>
> Your willingness and ability to go above and beyond to get the job done to our expectations was greatly appreciated. All the details, such as getting the logs and the color of the siding to match our house, and going to great lengths to get our slate floor to be beautiful were not overlooked.
>
> We would, without reservation, highly recommend you and your crew to anyone wanting quality workmanship projects done in their home. Thank you again. It was a pleasure doing business with you.

 - Description: Our client came to us with a completely unfinished basement. They were empty nesters, but wanted a space where they could entertain and where their extended family could enjoy. We incorporated a kitchen that is used as a wet bar, as well as a game area with a pool table and video game area.

 - Description: Our client came to use because their bathroom wasn't using the full space very well. They had a jacuzzi that they never used, but was taking up a lot of space. Furthermore, there was a small shower and a lack of storage. To meet their needs we removed the jacuzzi tub and enlarged the walk in shower. We also added more cabinet space for storage. Finally we added in wall to wall tile.

 - Description: Our clients had a big family and needed a space that was functional and everyone could enjoy. The existing kitchen was too compact and did not allow everyone to use the space at one time. By only expanding the room by 12 inches, we were able to maximize the functionality of the kitchen. We incorporated two islands and more counter space so there were three different work spaces. The outer island was then used for the microwave and lunch supplies for the kids.

 - Description: Our client came to us with the intent of updating their bathroom to have a more modern feel. The space was very dark and outdated. In this space we added 12 x 24 tiles in the shower to make it look more like marble, as well as a quartz counter top on the vanity. They also needed a more accessible shower. We made the shower larger and also built in a bench by using space from over the staircase.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Are these countertops white quartz?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Color of these countertops?

A: LG Viatera Rococo

**Q: New Chairs arrived - I HATE, HATE, HATE them!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I feel ill... sick to my stomach. I've been waiting 10+ weeks for my furniture to arrive (Ethan Allen). This is the first time in my life I actually accepted a designers help, mainly because I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with a new home, that is completely empty.

My floors are a warm, light European Oak. My style is relaxed COTTAGE/FARMHOUSE. Designer came to my home, I showed her pictures of my old home (which the buyers purchased furnished)

So the chairs... I like the style, but I HATE the wood tone - it's almost black, and I just hate it. Any idea what to do besides try and sell these and start over?

My kitchen and the stool is what I have on order.

The new chairs

A: I can understand why the chairs are bothering you. They seem a little "stuffy" or formal for the style that you are trying to recreate; however, I agree with everyone else. Once you furnish everything else, they may be a nice contrast.

**Q: Is this Kraftmaid Marquette? What is the finish?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Actually, they are Shenandoah, McKinley, Maple with
mocha glaze

**Q: Cabinet height for 10 ft ceilings** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have 10 ft ceilings in our kitchen and we are wondering if the cabinets should be 42" or 48" high. We have decided not to take the cabinets to the ceiling. We would appreciate any advice. We are mostly concerned with the look vs functionality. Thank you.

A: Here's a kitchen we completed with 9' ceilings and we used 42" upper cabinets with a large crown moulding. The homeowners still prefered to have space above the cabinets rather than having them go all the way to the ceiling. Even with tall ceiling, 48" cabinets could make the cabinets feel top heavy. If you want them taller, stacking would be a better option.

**Q: Flooring advise** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I want to go to wood flooring in my new house but I have many light colored woods including shutters and same tone in my furniture. Low ceilings and not a lot of natural light. I was thinking go dark barn wood so that I don't have the lighter wood overwhelm the house but I don't know if it will close us in and make the room seem really small. I want to run it through out the bottom floor and up the stairs. Photo is at night.

A: I agree that you want to find something that would coordinate with the other woods in the space. I would suggest something in the middle tones that would maybe have some variation that would pull out the lighter color in your existing trim.

**Q: Dining Area Lights** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi - I am going to change the chandelier above my dining table. Was thinking of putting in 2 of the large Clarissa chandeliers. What do you think will look better? One large one or 2 large ones? I have a very high ceiling and all recessed lights - no other hanging lights. Any ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Sorry for the mess around the dining table!

A: This light would be great! With the black, it would coordinate with your railing and still has the bling.
