> I made the unfortunate decision to hire LIV Design for a complete remodel in 2021. Hiring LIV was undoubtedly one of the most regrettable business decisions I have ever made. I hired LIV based on their online marketing, together with a sales pitch, where LIV unequivocally committed to being able to meet a strict 6-month renovation deadline imposed by a 1031-exchange. After LIV received their initial deposit, they sat on the project giving it the bare minimum attention until finally being demanded to produce some semblance of deliverables at a meeting months later. After this meeting, it was communicated that all materials and supplies selected were to be ordered due to the time constraints on the project and supply chain issues. This turned out to be the first of many, many oversights and mistakes made by LIV during this project. Referrals for contractors made by LIV were no better – unprofessional, had delinquent business licenses, were unable to show proof of insurance or GC licenses (while purporting to have both), unable to produce a correct bid, and ultimately demonstrated that they were unskilled for the project. Then, a LIV designer's lack of professionalism nearly ended in my own general contractor walking off the job site mid-job. By midsummer, LIV had failed measurement-101 on a fireplace, and selected and ordered a fireplace that physically would not fit in the space required. Instead of being forthright about the mistake, LIV designers attempted to hide the mistake, and ordered an entirely different brand, model, and style (from linear to rectangular) without approval, and blatantly lied to the supplier about receiving owner-authorization to try to cover it up. This news came to light after the framing and a day before install. At this point, it was agreed upon between Deboni (LIV owner and principal) and myself, that LIV would be responsible for the non-returnable fireplace and any change orders caused by the mistake. To date, Deboni has failed to reimburse me for the change-order incurred by her company’s mistakes, even after numerous requests. All in all, LIV’s mistakes, oversights, and squandering of time cost us substantial time and money in a time-critical project (where in many cases supplies like hardwood and cabinets, we believed were ordered, but were overlooked, experienced price increases of 110% within a matter of days or weeks). Unbashful, LIV also then billed (and got paid) for their redundancies and mistakes. Nearly all of my time last year (and beginning of this year) has been spent extensively cleaning up after them. It is my opinion that LIV will oversell and underdeliver beyond their capabilities and will take no responsibility for their mistakes. I would not recommend them for anyone looking for serious design work or product management on any construction project or remodel.
