Linebox is a design studio. As an Architect I understand design as a cultural act which engages our everyday experiences and brings together individuals with their built environment. Our design philosophy is grounded in a basic conviction and fundamental belief that great architecture is less about style and more about discovery. This belief is what drives our continuous pursuit of connecting client needs and desires, project budget, context, and artistic expression into a truly unique sense of place.

Linebox is a small collaborative design studio that is interested in all project types regardless of size and budget. Unlike large corporate firms our clients benefit from having direct access to the principal of the firm throughout the entire project.

“As designers of the built environment, it is our goal to bring our clients unique concepts in how they inhabit and experience space.” – Andrew Reeves

### Reviews

**★★★★★ — NADURRA, Sept. 2014**

> As a supply partner working with LineBox Studio as a flooring, the projects has been exceptionally easy and cooperative. Andrew has been clear in articulating his design ideas and quality expectations to us resulting in smooth flooring selections. Linebox clients benefit from dedication of choosing the right products for quality, purpose and design in his projects. We have enjoyed our collaborations immensely and always look forward to great projects in the future.

**★★★★★ — The Modern Shop, Aug. 2014**

> Have worked with Linebox Studio many times over the past few years. They are nothing but professional. They are passionate about what they do and it shows. They pick beautiful products and tend to stray away from the norm (which I like). Cutting edge folks who see the future and are excited to share it with their clients.

**★★★★★ — Dark Tools, July 2014**

> I have worked with Linebox studio for over 5 years. They are one of the most creative teams we have worked with over time, they also truly listen to their clients and provide a design that not only works, but actually is within budgets and client vision. We are proud to be part of their team of suppliers.

> We renovated our 110yr brick row house in the Glebe.
> Linebox / Andrew Reeves created a forum to go back and forth with ideas that got us to a place we never thought possible with the project. His skill set is extremely deep and is delivered with humility and respect for both the clients wishes and the scope and limitations of the project.
> It was such a pleasurable experience with the trades and his office and ultimately himself that we truly didn't want the project to end or come to fruition. It was like a great book or movie that you finish and wish there was more ...which doesn't happen very often at all when it comes to these kind of endeavors.
> Would hire this small boutique firm hands down in a second for future projects.

**★★★★★ — nolanbri, July 2014**

> I hired LineBox Studio to design my house in Ottawa. I received outstanding service during the entire process. The owner Andrew Reeves was aways professional, listened to my input and used them to come up with innovative ideas for us to review together and make design decisions. I would highly recommend LineBox studios to anybody looking for custom and innovative designs and great personalized service.

**★★★★★ — dgenelson, March 2014**

> Andrew's approach to working on a project was, at its core, the reason I chose to work with him. Not only did his portfolio of prior art stand out but his pragmatic and enthusiastic demeanour were key attributes that influenced my decision to engage with LineBox.
>
> My project was simple: Build the home that I have pictured in my mind :-)
>
> Andrew worked with me, challenged me, and shared his deep knowledge in a very human and professional manner, which helped us unlock my vision and create a concrete and holistic plan. His character has enabled him to attract the best trades, the most cooperative city planners, and ultimately like-minded clients.
>
> In summary, this was the most positive experience I've had with the building and construction industry.
>

> I interviewed several Architects before I decided on Andrew Reeves and his team at LineBox. Within the first meeting, I knew that Andrew would be the Architect to design my dream home. It is his combination of amazing listening skills and his ability to ask questions, that truly enabled him to capture my vision, as his client. Even when I couldn't put into words and explain what I wanted, Andrew and his team worked tirelessly to perfect the design for me. And I love the design!!
>
> Andrew is also a strong advocate for his clients with contractors, tradespeople, etc. as he has gone to bat for me many times to keep the project on budget, expediate processes, etc. This has been an asset for me.
>
> I highly recommend Andrew and LineBox.

**★★★★★ — liveorlettri, Aug. 2013**

> I described to Andrew what I was looking for and he pointed me to a project that he had worked on with Larchwood Urban Developments and it was just finishing construction. It was the first place I saw and I fell in love. The design details by Linebox, and construction quality of Larchwood made this an obvious and easy decision.
>
> I would definitely work with Andrew when I am ready to create my next place.

**★★★★★ — Nik, March 2013**

> I first found out about LineBox and Andrew through a friend. I was looking for someone to handle the complete gut and renovation of my condo in Toronto. After looking at his previous work I noticed very cool design details that I haven’t seen before and an overall sense of style that I liked very much. I'm a control freak and very particular with design so I was a bit nervous about working with a professional for the first time.
>
> After meeting with Andrew I noticed he was extremely knowledgable with the design and build process. He had a talent with taking my vague ideas and turning them into a clear picture of what I wanted. I really liked that and hired him to start immediately. The project came in under budget due to some innovative design techniques and was on time too! But probably the most satisfying thing about the renovation was almost everyone that visits my place comments how amazing it looks.
>
> I was very pleased with my first experience dealing with an architect and plan to use Andrew and his company for many projects in the future.

**★★★★★ — ivan77, Feb. 2013**

> My wife and I always wanted to build our own home. We tracked Linebox through the website for a while. Once we were ready to move forward with a project, we contacted Andrew and a couple of other competing firms. The main reasons why we chose Linebox were Andrew's focus on designing the house that my wife and I wanted, his willingness to incorporate our vision into the project, as well as his honest assessment of the real costs of building the house we wanted.
>
> I liked the fact that Andrew remained fully involved in the project from beginning to end. From the iterative process of nailing down the design that I loved, to his understanding and involvement in ensuring that contstruction was as expected, everything went well.
>
> This is the first, and last house that my wife and I will ever build, and I am happy we did it with Linebox.

**★★★★★ — Owen Williams, Feb. 2013**

> Some things just come together with the upmost of ease. When we bought our warehouse I went and photographed the outside of a building that I loved in the area. Many months later, on Houzz I noticed designs so like the photographs I had taken. One or two clicks revealed that LineBox was the company that had designed the space I liked. I emailed Andrew late on a Wednesday night and low and behold a few days later and we were sitting having a glass of wine the the space we needed help with.
> The project is on the go right now and we couldn't be happier with the designs, the process and the creativity. We will have an amazing house along with a townhouse project that is unfolding. Andrew and his team have made this process really easy and reduced our stress dramatically.

**★★★★★ — Alumilex, Feb. 2013**

> Alumilex has worked on many projects designed by LineBox. Their designs and hard work actually make our work stand out. The greatest feeling , is to drive by a construction built several years ago. And have the feeling it's been built yesterday. That is what a solid design is all about. Looks that will remain contemporary for decades. And details that will allow a building to grow old. Without showing too many wrinkles.....
> All of this in a smiling environment. Coated with respect and diplomacy.
> Great job !
>
> Thank you LineBox.

  - Description: The Story From the first sketch on paper, Candid was special. It was an ideal site ripe for a refreshing and playful intervention. Located in New Edinburgh, a booming Ottawa neighbourhood banked by the Rideau River and the East face of the Byward Market, residents are drawn to it for being a retreat within the heart of the city. Steps away from a plethora of markets and shops, New Edinburgh is balanced by access to parks and greenspace as well as a sense of community. Sited in a neighbourhood in…

First developed as worker housing in the 1880s the street was then a vacant railway corridor, it is now characterized by a series of 10’wide lots with homes between 300 and 500 square feet in size. Filling-in the gaps can breathe life and encourage a more social community, promote a more compact lifestyle, decrease the demands on city infrastructure and motorized transport and inject life into a neighbourhood”. – Andrew Reeves The Story The client, a small, modern Toronto-based residential developer, challenged us to use design as a means to maximize the efficiency and affordabi…

  - Description: Lighthouse was designed for a family of five, looking to relocate from a rural setting to a modern urban dream house. It is a 4,500 square foot urban infill house in Ottawa’s planned Lindenlea community, adjacent to the city’s “old money community of Rockcliffe Village.” As the kidney-shaped site is wedged between the parking lot of the community centre to the southwest and a forested 40-foot escarpment to the north, it presented unique challenges and opportunities to coordinate views with desir…

  - Description: The Story Ottawa’s vibrant Glebe neighborhood stretches across the southern downtown edge of Canada’s National Capital. Its houses run the spectrum from prominent, architect designed heritage residences to modest, tightly packed workers’ homes from the early 20th century. Fold Place replaces on of the latter houses on a street boarded on its south by the open profile of Lansdowne Park and its Aberdeen Pavilion, one of North America’s few surviving Crystal Palace-style domed exhibition halls. - Description: It can be challenging enough to build a modern home in a traditional context but remodeling a conventional house with a contemporary approach can be even more difficult though, done well, it can produce a potentially more dynamic and impressive combined construction than either a traditional or modern house design. In this renovation-and-interior remodeling project, we integrated elements of the original structure in creative ways with the addition of more space (addition in the rear). Through c…

The project was a true team effort led by Andrew and also influenced by the builder, suppliers, artists and our vision as the clients. This collaborative approach made it possible to work within the constraints of our our budget while dealing with the conditions of the found site and also allowing for new design ideas and changes along the way. - Description: The Story Located in a well established Toronto West neighbourhood, this modern renovation and addition to an existing residence originally built in the 1920’s, focuses on maintaining a balance between old and new. - Description: The Story This new cottage is located a top of a 40′ sloped fully treed lake side property. As the Architects we wanted the house to “hug” the natural contours of the site and horizontally fit into the natural landscape. We also incorporated a long continuous horizontal overhang to shade the large water front windows and reduce the solar summer gains but allow for amazing views of the lake while provide slender slit like windows that “frame” the outside landscape like picture frames on the wall.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Lighting** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where can you buy the lighting on top of the island counter?

A: Sustemalux

**Q: How do I find panels like this** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Custom laser cut metal.

**Q: I love the backsplash colour. Could you tell me the exact colour?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hard as its back painted glass. Custom colour

**Q: Can this fireplace used in kitchen cabinetry?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Re-doing my kitchen / living area; would like to use on end of kitchen cabinets, would this be safe?

A: DOnt think so

**Q: New build- chandelier?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Would you put a chandelier in the of the ceiling in line with the middle bay window and middle piano window? Or would it take away from the view? Out the bay window is a river and out the piano window is are small mountains.
There will be wall sconces going on either side of the piano window and 6 pot lights in the ceiling.
Would a chandelier be too much?

A: Ceiling fan with light is my opinion. As long as its mounted on the flat or the angle you have to watch for model as not all can go on a slopped ceiling

**Q: Before & After: Kitchen Transformation in Bethesda, MD** *(in Before & After)*

A home addition made this kitchen transformation possible. The original kitchen was small and cluttered with very limited natural light. The addition by design-build contractor MARK IV Builders allowed space for an attached family room and a beautifully open concept kitchen any home chef would love.

A: Great job!
