**Q: Help with large office window treatment** *(in Home Decorating)*

I'm replacing the window treatment on an office window of our new condo. (Photo is from the listing and the furniture is now different but the desk placement is similar.) The large window looks out at the courtyard and beyond to the street. I work from home and love the light that comes through the east-facing window in the daytime; however, I want privacy a night as well as a light-blocking feature from the courtyard's bright lighting fixtures.

Currently, the floor-to-ceiling curtains (as seen in photo) are clunky: my desk is pressed up against them (it's a small space), and I have plants on my desk that enjoy the light but don't like being tossed around each time I open/close the curtains. When they're open and stacked up (like in the photo), the curtains need to be tucked behind the dog bed and file cabinet on either side of my desk. Roman shades also seem a bit clunky for this large window (about 84" wide). Solution ideas? Perhaps a light-blocking roller shade with some sort of decorative element that doesn't get caught in my plants? My style is clean lines and simple design. Walls will be white and carpeting replaced by hardwood floor with thin rug. All suggestions and photo ideas appreciated!

A: I'd suggest a roller shade. Roller shades have a lot of different material options to bring more texture in the room. They will also allow sun control during the day and privacy at night. If you can do an inside mount that would be preferred, but you can also do an outside mount and still bypass your desk. You may want to consider motorization for ease of use. A: These are some tricky windows. Does the 1/4 arch window have a screen with a hinge? If you don't need the screen you could do a shutter or honeycomb shade that follows the shape of the arch. If you're into DIY you could also make a template of the window and cut a piece of wood to follow the shape of the window and wrap it with fabric and hold it in with a magnet. 

For the other window a shutter or simple shade would work.

**Q: window treatment help** *(in Windows)*

The sun comes into my livingroom on my couch and my credenza because I currently do not have any window treatment on my picture window that has two smaller windows attached to it. Typical northeast split built in early 70's. Windows are about 104 total in width but dept is only about 1 1/4 inches.  The view outside has nice trees when in bloom so I don't want to close in the view.  I am extremely sensitive to light deprivation as well. What do you suggest to both protect my furniture, retain light and yet "finish" the window appropriately for the room?

A: You may want to consider doing a solar shade. The solar shade will give you UV protection  and allow you to still see out.

**Q: Bay window treatments or left bare?** *(in Home Decorating)*

We have 2 bay windows in our kitchen and adjacent dining area and one 3 light casement in the dining area. We paln on taking down the wallpaper and chair rail and taking down the valences. My question is should we put something else up like blinds or roman shades or does it look ok with nothing on it. I feel like the window is more open with nothing but not sure if its too stark. Also, I think the casement window needs something on it because the sun is blinding in the morning since we took a tree down. Would it look weird to have blinds on that window and nothing on the bay windows. Appreciate any feedback you can give.

A: I personally don't like the looks of bare windows, they just look unfinished. If the casement window lets in too much light and you don't need the privacy I'd suggest doing a solar roller shade. The solar shades allow you to see out, but they cut down on the heat and the glare. I'd then do a fabric cornice over the roller shade and on the bay window. Doing the same valance will tie the windows together.

**Q: Matching Patio Door and Den Window Coverings?** *(in Home Decorating)*

We had a new window installed in our condo den. Because the patio doors are on the same wall, we’re thinking we should replace the patio door drapes to have both windows with the same window treatment. But cannot decide on what would look good on both windows. We know that we pretty much have the windows treatments totally open during the day for the light and totally closed at night for privacy. Sadly top down blinds are not allowed in Canada.  Would welcome suggestions!

A: What about a woven shade and a woven drapery on the patio door. From what I can tell this would blend well with the look of your home. I'd suggest mounting the shade over the casement windows as an outside mount at the same height as the patio door treatment. This will get the stack off the window, make the window appear larger and let more light in. Woven shades can be cordless or motorized to comply with the new laws and the woven drapes have no cords. Call your local Budget Blinds for an estimate.

**Q: Window Treatment Help** *(in Home Decorating)*

Looking for advice on window treatments. These corner windows are asymmetrical. I want to hang drapes from the second story windows on the green wall but I think I need to include all of the windows. The corner has thrown me off. Looking for suggestions and also replacing the 12 year old blinds once I make a decision.
1\. Can I hang 4 panels on the green wall on each side of the single panels and just hang one panel on the cream wall window panels on the outside? The corner is too narrow for a panel and I think even a corner rod won't work.
We're in a remodel so nothing is finished. Don't mind my pictures.

A: Because the ceilings are so tall I think it would look best to have drapes that break up the wall and soften the room. There are lots of different header styles and fabrics to choose from that would blend with the style of your home. I'd suggest calling the Budget Blinds that closest to you to have them show you fabric and shade options. If you're doing shades a motorized roller shade might be a good option.
