The home seems to be built well. We went into contract in June 2021 with a contract that stated the home would be completed by June 2022. It was not completed until August of 2022. The foundation and construction seems to be sturdy and done well. It’s a beautiful farmhouse. And we love it. James, the head construction site manger is wonderful. He listened to our concerns along the way, reacted quickly to issues and problems, and was just plain nice to speak with. They cleared the lot and broke ground in October of 2021. Then everything came to a stop. We came to find out that they had other projects with promises to be in by Christmas so our project was put on the back burner. When we expressed concerns due to our timeline to move out of our home we were assured that it would be complete on time. We lived out of state so we couldn’t keep regular tabs on the progress. I emailed Joanna several times as our home was being placed on the market and when we had an excepted offer and a move out date at the beginning of July 2022. Joanna never told us this would be an issue so we went ahead with the sale of our home and preparations to move to another state. My husband came in March, April and May of 2022 to monitor the progress or should I say lack of progress. It became clear they are not a custom home builder but a contractor that subs almost everything out. Some of their subs were great, others were pretty terrible including their painters and the tile company that Joanna brought us to. Their work was very sloppy to say the least. The work site itself was disgusting. Garbage and trash everywhere. Beer bottles, water bottles, food wrappers, cups , etc everywhere. Communication was often difficult. Many emails to Joanna went completely unanswered and Tavi did not have a handle on the jobs progress. Progress was slow because workers would not show up for days and weeks at a time. Their plumber was great but his bill was almost double our allowance. The flooring that Joanna brought me to choose was complete garbage and we were forced to go ourselves to a store in Columbia to replace the trash floor they were installing in our “custom” home. When the home was finally finished snd the CO issued, we never even heard a congratulations from Joanna. Never a thank you for our business. Nothing. We are nice people and tried to be understanding throughout the building process. But this team was just not great to work with. Tavi seems like a nice guy but does not have a pulse on his business. When several jobs were yet to complete after we moved in, we held some of our overage money as leverage to get the work done. Tavi refused to pay our real estate agent under the terms of their contract. I’m sure Joanna got paid. Eventually my realtor had to threaten them to get paid and the work was eventually completed. Middlehouse was notified in writing of major issues over 6 months ago. They have not repaired most of the items of concern, and many problems have not been touched AT ALL.
