**★★★★★ — Jo-Anne Gendron, Dec. 2023**

> I found Irene’s website and liked what I read and hired her immediately because we somehow connected because of our very similar tastes and opinions on how I wanted my condo styled and decorated. Together we chose all my appliances, cupboards & hardware, countertops & backsplash, furniture, light fixtures and even artwork and I found her to be a pleasure to work with and never pushy nor forcing me in a direction that conflicted with my own thoughts and ideas.. I am absolutely thrilled with the final results and I would highly recommend Irene for any interior decorating or renovation. She has great insight and also wonderful trade discounts that she gladly passed along to me. She is a lovely person with very good artistic instincts when it comes to helping you create your dream home. Thank you Irene for all your help and suggestions! My condo is now beautiful and as someone said, it’s magazine worthy!

> Meeting with Irene was the best step ever to do decorating our home .We are starting to move on and change our life styles. We carried a cluttered home for years too much different furnitures knick-knacks all over the place . I was confused because of living our decors i have collected for many years , I felt paralyzed don’t know what to do and where to go. Happy to welcome Irene and assessed our home. She gave us the courage to let go many furnitures that doesn’t belong and need change. We are in the process of getting rid off / to keep/ rearranging etc of what Irene advised us to do. Can’t wait to see our house clean and enjoy our particular styles/decors / palate were been waiting for…

**★★★★★ — Lisa Ryan, July 2019**

> I met Irene "after" our back deck project started and was delighted that she was able to put me back on track!
> With the budget set, Irene used her negotiating skills with a variety of trades; introduced us to a wide variety of materials and products; worked within a very narrow time frame, and most importantly, listened to our needs. She exceeded our expectations!
> She is a consummate professional. Her eye for detail, reviewing the work by trades to ensure quality results, and her exquisite taste is reflected in her work.
> I highly recommend Irene, Irene Kun Interiors, for your next project, I'm looking forward to working with her in the future!

**Comment from Irene Kun Interiors:**

**★★★★★ — Kathy Webster, May 2019**

> I utilized Irene Kun Interiors for assistance in choosing the tile and finish paint colours for the recent main bathroom remodel in our home. Irene has a talented eye for colours and textures which is evident in how she coordinated the tile and paint colours not only with the bathroom fixtures, cabinetry etc but also with the colour scheme in our home. She is very thorough and willing to take the time to explore all options to ensure that her recommendations are the best. Her skill and knowledge is especially respected, and in my case necessary, as I do not possess the required patience to explore and narrow down the hundreds of options available. With Irene's keen eye and attention to detail, our bathroom remodel is exactly what we were hoping for and have received numerous compliments. Thank you Irene and I will not hesitate to seek your services for future projects.

**Comment from Irene Kun Interiors:**

> Thank you Kathy. Assisting you in developing an aesthetically pleasing and functional built-in design, sourcing tile, and selecting a colour palette for your space in order to achieve the overall look and feel you envisioned is a pleasure! I love what I do!

**★★★★★ — Natalie Teal, May 2019**

> We needed help with the placement of furniture in our living room, and are so happy that Irene Kun Interiors was recommended to us. We already had sofas, side tables and lamps we loved, but struggled with how to arrange them. We knew that we needed a couple of more pieces, but needed guidance on scale and fabric choice. Irene listened intently to our needs, had terrific ideas and was a lot of fun to work with. Irene really understood our budget limitations and was able to use most our existing pieces to create the living room we’ve been dreaming of. She sourced a metalsmith to modify our chest of drawers to use as our TV stand and found the perfect sized upholstered arm chair, and chandelier. We collaborated to create a beautiful gallery wall using family heirlooms and photos, and Irene even helped us hang the chandelier at the perfect height! Now that the living room is perfect, we are ready to move onto the next space in our home. We will definitely be calling on Irene Kun Interiors for her help again!

**Comment from Irene Kun Interiors:**

> Thank you Natalie, it was a pleasure. Furniture placement, space planning and accessorizing was the key to bring this living room to the next level! Mapping out the new gallery wall in order to balance the space on the wall while ensuring purposeful placement of each item was challenging yet exciting when seeing it all come together, resulting in a great focal point for the space!

**★★★★★ — Blair, April 2019**

> I hired Irene to design my condo. Her suggestions and ideas were tailored to my budget, needs and taste and I was completely satisfied with the results.
>
> When I decided to put the condo up for sale, I was pleasantly surprised when it sold in one day. This was largely due to Irene's design ideas.
>
> I highly recommend Irene for your next renovation or design project!

**Comment from Irene Kun Interiors:**

> Thank you Blair. Past clients like yourself is why I love what I do.

**★★★★★ — amalia r, April 2019**

> Irene created a beautiful gallery wall that was elegant & seamless. Her professionalism and attention to detail made all the pieces come together perfectly.

**Comment from Irene Kun Interiors:**

> Amalia wanted a gallery wall filled with family photos to be showcased in the heart of her home; her kitchen / family room... a place where family and friends gathered. Amalia had an eclectic mix of frames in a variety of finishes, numerous shapes / sizes and styles that she asked me to use. Determining a purposeful and visually appealing layout and selecting a photo the best suited the location on the wall (and the frame itself) was a challenge I welcomed. It was a pleasure to work with Amalia! Thank you for your confidence in bringing iki into your home to create your lovely wall of memories.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Mix barstool type and color?** *(in Home Decorating)*

I just completed a kitchen remodel and have two peninsulas. One faces my living room (the photo with the beige furniture) and the other will face the family room (wall has Spanish tile and furniture is dark grey). The family room is under renovation also so the furniture isn’t placed yet. I included the photo for the color. I also have a s,all bar with dark grey cabinets that is in the family room close to the kitchen.
The family room peninsula can accommodate 4 stools and the living room wall 3. I’m not sure if I should go with beige or grey stools. And I’m thinking of backless for the living room and backs for the family room. I’m afraid if I do all stools with backs that it will look like you’re walking into a bar at a restaurant! My husband wants swivel, I do not. So can I do the backless and backsplash! Can I mix colors? (Beige in living room, grey in family room or a totally different color like a blue?). If I need better photos let me know.

A: Definitely keep all the stools the same style & colour. I too suggest a black finish. Take a look for example, at the Hanna Counter Stool, 25.5" Seat Height, Black. It's a Matt black with clean straight lines and won't compete with the peninsulas and will tie in with the rest of your space.

**Q: paint railings white?** *(in Paint)*

We just purchased this lake house- wood everywhere! Should I paint the railings white? Walls are now SW Greek Villa white.

A: First, Congratulations! Would you consider giving a "white wash" on the ceiling wood? It certainly would brighten up the space yet still maintain the lake house vibe and give you texture. If so, then keep the railings natural... And perhaps paint-out the kitchen cabinet door fronts (if they are staying) because I feel the wood colour and grain is competing with the rest of the wood.

**Q: Paint color 1920’s Spanish style house** *(in Paint)*

I just got this house and is going to be repainted (stucco repair and worn out window trim). Should I repaint it the same colors or should I go with black/dark trim instead of the reddish one?

A: I would not add a third colour to the exterior for the trim. As it is, my eye automatically goes to the trim around the windows (as it contrasts with the wall). If you like the existing attention around the windows keep it the same (to tie in with the roof) however, I would be inclined to consider painting the trim out with the wall colour (which I do like). Keep a pop of colour for the front door.

**Q: Help with decision on kitchen backsplash** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We had the Taj Mahal slab installed yesterday and still in the process of painting cabinets. (A Whisper White). I was going to use a 2 1/2” X 10” subway a slight bit darker than the Whisper all the way around including around and over the window. The fabricator is making a window sill from the slab, still to be installed. We have extra slab and the designer suggests they make a window casing using the Taj Mahal around the window and up to the ceiling molding. We would have the subway run into the Taj Mahal as you would if it were a wood window molding. (My window has no molding now and I was just going to use tile to the edge and going inside as it was before the remodel) I’ll post my unfinished photo as it is now and one I saw posted of a white kitchen just with the tile around. There is also a blurry photo of someone that put slab around their window but using a busier subway. Any thoughts?

A: Agreed. Use tile on the substrate (wall) and just have the Taj for your countertop. I am also not keen on the idea of the TM being used for your sill.

**Q: Laying Plank Flooring** *(in Flooring)*

So I have been reading online that you can install plank flooring width ways or length ways depending on the room. I have a very bright very long room. From everything I have read online laying your flooring horizontally in a long room can avoid the "bowling alley" look. My room is 40 feet long with a 12 foot by 4 foot window at one end. (photo attached), I would like to lay the flooring sideways because it allows you to see the color from either end of the room. If I lay it length ways the knots and embossing looks like dirt marks and you cannot see the color at all. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone:)

A: I agree with Groveraxle - the concrete floors are begging to shine! Adding wood elements in furnishings/built-ins will warm things up and an area rug to define / anchor a space. However if you are determined to add the wooden floors then absolutely lengthwise.

**Q: Don't know how to layout this living room.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello. We have a small 15 by 15 living room with windows on two sides and side by side reach in closets on one wall. The fourth wall is blank. We are struggling with what to do with the closets. Convert to built in shelving and cabinets? A fireplace in one and tv in the other? Do built in in the closets, but place a couch directly against it? The house has an ocean view out the front windows directly across the from the closets. Ideally I would love to orient seating to maximize looking at the view, but also want a tv location and a fireplace of some sort. Maybe it can't all be accomplished? The furniture will be replaced and is pushed around in the pictures as we were playing with layouts. Any advice is very welcome!!

A: First, it looks like a great space to work with! If having closet storage is not critical, I agree with RL and ideally would take the closets out (which makes it a bigger job along with the issue of not having hardwood under the existing closet walls.
