My father-in-law, wife, and I threw around the idea of doing it ourselves, however, the undertaking was very overwhelming and after reviewing some online tutorials and videos, we knew hiring a professional was the way to go. > > We received several replies and had three estimates in total. The first to reply was Tim from Teak Master. It was only after the in-person estimate that I discovered he was also the owner. Really a testament to the company’s commitment to quality when the owner is involved to the level Tim was. Tim projected the job to take 2 days. I was a bit skeptical of this as the other two companies quoted a 3-10 day time frame. Did a bit more online research on the whole process and emailed Tim some questions. He answered every question and even detailed what they do step-by-step. Their approach was far more labor intensive and specific to deck restoration. Teak Master was not only competitive in pricing, they were right there with the lowest. Also, while everyone else was a handyman or general contractor, Teak Master, was the only deck specialist of the bunch. Don’t know of any others in the So Cal area. We stumbled upon a few posted photos and wanted to change our color to match a photos from a Malibu deck. Our deck is only 2 years is and had never been properly protected from the outset. The guys came out and were very efficient. Day one was cleaning. Day 2 was sanding and bleaching. Day 3 consisted of crew leader, Ernie, applying various tinted sealer choices on our wood to see what color we liked best. We zeroed in on a color and couldn't be more pleased. I had played around with the thought of stripping the shinny varnish coating our contractor had applied and allow it to weather naturally on its own. The sanding made the wood look brand new, it was pretty amazing to watch! After viewing various color tints, I decided on a recommendation from Raul on a "warm honey tone." I appreciate how patient Raul was on showing us a multitude of colors to get exactly what we wanted. I know it is difficult to change the natural color of Ipe wood, but they were able to do it. The guys hand brushed the sealer on and we couldn't be happier. Our deck looks amazing!!!
