## Community Q&A

**Q: What color should we paint the exterior of this house? What color for** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My mom wants to paint her house exterior. 
Her interior is eclectic, boho & contemporary.

A: With that exterior  would stay with a color that is natural and looks like stonework.  I would actually prefer to see some of the stone areas painted a slightly darker and some painted slightly lighter to give the stone more dimension....stay with the stone look!

I am searching for paint color inspiration for my living room. I have ivory leather furniture and a lovely midnight green rug, but these ivory walls are killing me. I am thinking something in the gray family, but am open to suggestion. Thoughts?

A: Perhaps the grey as in that sofa pillow.  I prefer a grey with a touch of raw umber mixed in for warmth.  Then take the blanket off the sofa back, you can toss it over the arm.  Good Luck!

**Q: Desparately needs advice on paint colors!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My fiancé and I bought a foreclosure/fixer upper and everything needs painted and updated.  Fortunately, we are capable of doing most of the work ourselves.  However, we can't seem to agree on a paint color and until all the painting is complete, we can't move onto replacing the flooring.  The dining/living area is very small and has only one window and a sliding glass door (will eventually be replaced with French doors).  The kitchen is also very small and has no windows and opens up to the dining area.  We are hoping to remove the small dividing wall and replace it with a breakfast bar.  I'd like for the entire area (kitchen, dining, and living areas) to feel like one larger room since the space is so limited.  We would love to use some contemporary, bold colors but I think the space is just too small and think we should use a very light gray and white.  We already have the replacement flooring and it is Brazilian Cherry (darker hardwood).  I'm planning on painting the kitchen cabinets white due the lack of windows and already have updated hardware for those.  I would greatly appreciate any advice on paint colors.  Also, does anyone have advice on how to use gray without it appearing light blue?  Thank you in advance for your help!

A: Try the Aura deck from Ben Moore, colors all coordinate well and they are rich colors.  If you go with a grey, choose one that has umber in it so it's a shadowy color as opposed to an icey blue.  And yes, check this color against your flooring material.  If the Brazilian cherry has true reddish overtones, you may want a grey with a burnt umber or sienna tones.  Good luck, the new place looks good and when you put your own colors and flair in it, it will look great.
