> The folks at Ontra Stone accommodated our requirements at the height of the holiday season, price-wise and time-wise. With professional service and care for what we imagined as our final design, both Buddy and Andrew saw us through the necessary steps of marble choices, designs and installation. They were a great help to our novice understanding of building a fabulous bath. We truly feel to have discovered a great group of people; people who were there to do the job the right way the first time around, and at a fair price. To anyone reviewing them for contract, believe us when we say this outfit comes highly recommended.
>
> Being very satisfied customers, we openly recommend the services of Ontra Stone to anyone looking for beautiful marble and/or granite work.
>
> Sincerely,
> The Bertinis

> Ontra Stone Concepts was THE highlight of a recent home renovation project we did. We built our new kitchen around a Vetrazzo counter top that I fell in love with years before the actual project even begin. We were advised that "any fabricator" would be able to order and install this product, but when it came down to the actual install time, we found out no one would do it. The product had some very specific characteristics that no one seemed to be familiar with. We received Ontra Stone Concepts name from a company in NJ who assured us that Ontra Stone Design was the only fabricator in our area that had participated in the “training” Vetrazzo offered. I called Buddy Ontra on a Friday night after normal work hours, almost in tears, panicked that the one product that I absolutely needed in my new kitchen wasn’t going to be available. To no one’s surprise, I got the answering machine (it was Friday night after all). I left my weepy story on the answering machine, and to my surprise, I received a call back – from Buddy himself – at 8 am the following morning. (yes Saturday!!) After working with Ontra Stone Concepts, I realize that the prompt call back was just the way they do business, simply their customer service, and not the whiney, pleading message I left. Buddy assured me that he was familiar with the product, and while he hadn’t had an opportunity to work with it yet, he was confident they would be able to handle it. He advised that his assistant, Andrew would call me with more information on Monday. True to form, a company is only as good as its owner in my eyes and Andrew was as professional, friendly, prompt and knowledgeable as his boss. He outlined the next steps, he held my hand and was available for questions during the selection process, of both the “must-have” Vetrazzo product as well as the surrounding counters needs. We meet at Ontra Stone Concepts’ facility, looked around and actually found a complimentary piece that only needed to be cut down slightly. (Huge bargain. So happy.) With all of our products picked out, mind you this wasn’t a typically kitchen redo (a 300k type of a project) – there are five different surfaces and Ontra dressed four of them (the fifth is stainless steel that my husband did, only after talking with Buddy and Carlos about the install process), we were ready to go. Ontra Stone under promised and over delivered. They sent a gentleman, Carlos, out to measure the spaces, he arrived on time and prepared. He was crazy knowledgeable, super nice and thorough. I felt so comfortable and secure with how this part of my new kitchen was going to turn out. Install day was absolutely no different from the rest of the process. Carlos, Bruce and their crew of four or five, installed our counter tops in a professional manner, working with the builder, the plumber, the electrician and the home owner!! Buddy stopped in to make sure the crew didn’t need anything and that everything was going as scheduled. I know this is long winded, however I hope it is helpful. During this process for me I had no information to go by, it really was a wing and a prayer, but things couldn’t have worked out better. Ontra Stone Concepts, Buddy Ontra, Andrew, Carlos, Bruce – every single one of the others were professional, courteous, knowledgeable – I cannot say enough. As a business owner myself, I have a bad habit of holding companies in service industries to a higher standard, and these guys exceeded every one! I recommend them to everyone I speak to, they are amazing people to work with. They all love what they do, and they do it so well.

> Buddy Ontra has deep experience and knowhow, and he and his team did an excellent job on a marble fireplace facing, Moda Crete kitchen island top and marble bathroom tub top. A year later everything is perfect, and Ontra Stone is there to help with service and maintenance issues. Good people, thorough job, and fair prices.

> I have worked with Ontra Stone for many years now, they are my go to fabricator. They are truly a pleasure to deal with and make my job easy. They can handle large kitchen projects down to a small counter top and aim to please not matter the size of the project. They are sensitive to the project management schedules that entail when running a project and always manage to accommodate my needs. I would highly recommend them.

**★★★★★ — Simply Baths & Kitchens, April 2014**

> We've worked with Ontra Stone Concepts for years and consider them to some of the best in the trade. Perfectionist and professional, we've always been very happy with the work they've completed on our behalf. Their knowledge of natural materials, their follow-through on installations and their capabilities as fabricators extend far beyond the typical stone installer. It's nice to find a fabricator who sets themselves apart from the rest.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What color backsplash did you use?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love this! This is exactly what I was thinking of doing in my kitchen. Does the Spyder countertop look yellow at all? My sample does a little. Thank you!

A: Hi! Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you. The Spyder doesn't really have a yellow look, it may just be your sample. It's basically white and grey.

**Q: Island countertop** *(in Photo Questions)*

What kind of countertop is this?

A: The granite is called Viscount White, sometimes called Silver Cloud. It is mitered to 3" thick.

**Q: Are these cabinets by Williams Cabinetry & millwork of Trumbull CT?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Close, Ginny. Willpower Construction of Trumbull, Ct. :)

**Q: What should I use to support a 2'Quartz overhang on an island** *(in Kitchens)*

Quartz support on an island

A: Good point. Rule of thumb/standard is 2/3rd's on the cabinet, 1/3rd overhang, so 24" cabinet allows up to 12". (We consider 10" to be a safer allowance and 10" overhang doesn't bang knees!)

**Q: Matte or shiny tiles for backsplash?** *(in Kitchens)*

Almost ready to start thinking about a backsplash and need some design advice. Our cabinets are cherry shakers. Granite is Ice White Blue leathered. With the leathered granite, should we consider matte tiles or would gloss be okay? Thinking we want a backsplash that is not a show stealer. We are leaning towards a simple subway (standard sized or elongated). I'm noticing that there are more options for gloss but I was originally thinking we should do matte since the counters are not shiny. Am I over thinking it? I know there is no wrong decision but would love to hear what others have observed. Thanks.

A: Size of the kitchen, amount of light can come into play here, also. Polished materials reflect and effectively multiply the light in the room. General rule of thumb.

**Q: Granite Help** *(in Kitchens)*

Hi,I have a white granite countertop (not marble) that has started to discolour around the edges. I've had a few "experts" look at pictures but nobody can help. The area that is discoloured is slightly darker. It has occurred around the edge on the side of the island that has has the most use - where the kids sit and touch the edges. On the side of the island that has little use, there is no staining. It is not a glue issue. Also, the darker, discoloured area is still shiny.
Any advice on how to remove the discolouration?

A: That appears to be, as the link above suggests, simply moisture in the stone. All natural stones are porous, and Macaubas is no exception. Use less water when cleaning perhaps. Potentially a cleaner rather than water. Method makes a stone safe cleaner that works well.
