When we initially choose Klaybor we had interviewed 6 others and choose Klaybor even though he was one of the most expensive because he seemed to become really vested in the project during our interview. We had already drawn up about 50% of our plan but we needed a professional to get us to the finish line, to polish our house and make it great, Larry said he could do that. Excited to see his first rendering we open that initial email and to be quite honest we were shocked. It was so disappointing to see the house he had drawn. He literally decided to design the side entrance (the entrance from our future detached garage) to open up into a mud room. Yeah I know, what is wrong with that...nothing, but from there the only way you could walk was into the office and through to the other side to a door which then went into the kitchen. Seriously? But that was only part of the problem. When we explained that we didn't like that idea he honestly became offended and from that point forward seemed bothered or insulted that we even questioned him. The entire process was brutal. I pretty much drew up the plan and he would put it into the computer exactly how I gave it to him. Then when we saw corrections he would get upset. This continued for several moths and I could go on with more examples of the grueling process. Klaybor will defend himself and say it was us who kept changing the plans (which is what he told us was going on with another one of his clients) and yes we did, we made about 7 or 8 changes during the planning, but this wouldn't have happened if it was a true archietect/designer would have been actually invested in the job as opposed to getting a check. I terminated our contract with Klaybor and Associates and will find another company to finish our plans because it is our house and we believe it should be done correct which is not the beliefs of this architect. I Obviously I would highly urge anyone looking for an architect to pass on Klaybor and Associates. **Comment from Klaybor & Associates, Inc.:** > Mr. Chad James contacted me in early October 2016 about helping him design his new home. I quoted him a price and he said that he had received better estimates from other design firms. I wished him luck on his project. Mr. James contacted me again on 2 additional occasions asking if I would reconsider my fee because he felt I was the best match for his project. I eventually agreed to a reduced fee with the understanding that the project would be "quick and easy" for me because Mr. James had it "all figured out". > > A typical time frame for a project the size of Mr. James home is about 6-8 weeks, start to finish. It is now over 3 months and we are only at 50% completion. I have over 50 emails from Mr. James with changes to his plans. This past Friday Mr. James sent me another email with more changes. I informed him that he had exceeded his budget on design and that any additional changes would incur additional fees. Mr. James returned an email stating “Larry all you have done is copied the drawings that I have sent you this entire project has been mine I have had almost 0 input from you.” My firm has already invested 48 man hours in Mr. James project. Mr. James replied “If you're not happy and we want to discontinue the services that's fine I'll find someone else to finish the project”. I responded to Mr. James “I believe it will be in both of our best interests to end our business.” Mr. James response was “Agreed”. > > I have been in the residential design business since 1985 in the North Florida market.
