**Q: Should I paint the fireplace brick and mantle the color of the wall?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I was going to paint the wooden mantle and the bricks the same color as the wall (navajo white). Now I am worried that it might look "cheap" or I might regret it. What do you think? This is a non functioning fireplace and it is an old house. Should I just white wash it? The wood is bare. Thoughts?

A: I enjoy exposed brick, I'd clear seal brick and stain mantel to match furniture that is in photo.

**Q: Exterior paint color** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My house was built in 1923 and has craftsman features. The roof is tan and can't be changed. I want a 3 color paint scheme. I'm considering a green base color but having a hard time choosing the right shade. I would like suggestions please. I've considered tan or cream with the green but am stuck for the 3rd color. Another green? Thanks.

**Q: Old fireplace** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Bought old colonial style home made with steel beams allowing an expansive great room.  I have a living area on one side and a dining area on the other (temporarily).  There's a large open area in the middle with a pinkish brick fireplace.  I'd love suggestions on deign layout for the area and what to do with the fireplace...seal it to darken the brick, paint the brick, or wrap it with stone?  Thanks!

A: I would whitewash both side panels to emphasize the middle radius area and hearth. I'd install two shelves made of reclaimed wood on either side for books or art.  A brick enhancer would then go on the middle radius and hearth section.
