We walked in and talked to Hailee and she was great she showed us around their yard and let us pick a few favorites to get prices on. I had a sample from another location I was in love with and she matched it and gave us a price on that as well. We choose the one I had the sample of and they came out to measure. They were back after the cabinets were ready and the counter tops when in great. I have wanted to upgrade my kitchen counter tops to granite for a while. After research and recommendations, I decided to go with Advanced Granite Solutions in Edgewood. My contractor (who I have worked with over the past 3 years and completely trust), was running point on my home project. The day the granite was to be installed, my contractor received a call about 4pm and the installers would be there shortly. In my opinion, this is way too late in the day to start this type of job. However, my contractor accommodated AGS since the installers were only a few minutes out. With that said, I was not able to receive any advanced notice/warning for the install. I was given no time to take the necessary steps to either clean out all my cabinets or cover. As a result, I had an extensive amount of dust in the cabinets as well as more than a light dusting on everything in the cabinets/drawers. There were also at least 2 pieces that the measurements were off. Once piece was cut an inch short in width. Very, very frustrating considering I had an existing countertop and even I could have measured with width of that piece. There was nothing I could do. If I ordered a new piece, I would run the risk that the new piece would not match the rest of the original slab. Also, the gap between the long black splash and the bar piece (the one that was cut short) in some spots was greater than 3/8". When I inquired with the installer, the response was we can fill that with caulk. Not the right answer. I did not pay for caulk. There was also a problem with the plumber not having the flexibility to adjust my drop in sink to be level. An additional appt needed to be scheduled with AGS to have a quality control team come out to inspect the install. It took AGS over 10 plus days to come out to make the necessary corrections. This would have been even longer if my contractor was not able to accommodate AGS schedule. This impacted my personal schedule for completing the balance of the work in my house. Again, this experience was extremely disappointing. Even though the granite looks nice, I was not happy with AGS. As the customer, I know have a piece that was cut short as well as the other problems and I don't feel AGS treated this with any urgency or no source of compensation for the one piece that was cut short. Currently it is an electric Pepto Bismo pink with brass Hollywood lights over huge mirror and tan Formica counters. Lovely. I am replacing mirror with two distressed white carved mirrors, changing out sinks to Kohler Memoir drop-ins, and will repaint a warm Mediterranian blue which makes white trim pop. Dilemna: What kind of countertops? The double vanity is very nice HIckory wood so it is staying. I am leaning towards white but what? Tile? Solid surface? Budget is important. A: We have a fully stocked remnant yard with Granite & Man-made stone if you would like to come by and browse through **Q: Granite** *(in Design Dilemma)* I have few chips in my labradorite counter: on the counter and along the edges. Is there something I can use to fill in the gaps, so that it doesn't get damaged any further? I read somewhere about epoxy resin--is this something I can use? If so, is there a type or brand that you can recommend I use? A: There are kits but your best bet is to call who ever put the tops in and have them fix the issue. It's not easy to do and you could end up making it worse. **Q: Need help with Kitchen Granite** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi! I need help with my kitchen granite surround. My island is a sable finish cherry with Caroline Summer granite. See below. My kitchen is U shaped but with the appliances on the left side. My kitchen cabinet on the wall will be a Starlite Finish with Mocha Glaze. I need help of which granite to pick. I don't want any brown with red tone. Option 1 - Antique Brown Option 2 - Cranberry Tan Option 3 - Tan Brown (no picture) A: Caroline Summer granite is not a real color, I assume you saw it online or at somewhere like lowes or home depot. Some suppliers change the names of the stone so that you can not find it anywhere else. **Q: Wall colors, countertops that go with honey oak (ick!)** *(in Design Dilemma)* My husband and I just bought our first home. It's a 1963 ranch house that (sadly) underwent a late 1980s/early 1990s remodel in which the owners added cabinetry of traditional honey oak with arched panels. This cabinetry extends beyond the kitchen into an adjacent dining nook that has a large bar counter and built-in china cabinet & pantry. The countertops in both the kitchen and adjacent dining nook are the classic 1980s white tile with dark grout. The flooring is a nasty laminate and the appliances are (with the exception of the huge white fridge) the old dated, black appliances. We will not have the money at this time to remodel the kitchen. Thus, I am seeking ideas for what budget/DIY updates we can do with paint, countertops/backsplash, and sink/hardware that would offset the yellow-orange appearance of the kitchen and breakfast/china cabinet/pantry nook. I am also considering painting or staining the cabinetry (I've done my research on this and know what it takes) - but I have a 4-1/2 month old and don't believe that's a wise project at this time (given the extent of cabinetry in the kitchen/dining space). Please provide advice on budget updates/color changes. I've heard grays, whites, and browns (greige) work well to offset honey oak.
